Please don’t sell delusions as “factual”… There are ‘no shortage of witnesses’ who have criticised the show for the imaginary storylines added to the show and also many witnesses who have suffered because of Diana’s affairs with married men… But some people just don’t realise that she was a human and put her on a pedestal like a saint, so they just sweep her flaws under the carpet and do great disservice to her memory…

@@gauravw6947 I agree! Well observed. It did feel a little bit like she was pushing his buttons here. None of the other adults wanted to go shopping. He over-reacted for certain, but my reading of this scene in particular is that due to their incompatability, they both had a lot of resentment and would deliberately needle one another to express it.
Disclaimer for the general audience: since I get a snide comment saying "umm this is fictional" every time I comment on this show online, I KNOW. I know this probably didn't really happen. I think it is a well written show with well written, albeit fictional, character moments, that is all :)

Charles sure acted stupid there...I'm glad his attempt at making himself look "intellectual" and at making Diana look "stupid" backfired in his face.
I suspect that a couple of others wanted to do a bit of shopping, but were afraid to speak up.
And Diana in reality did read several classics, including _Jane Eyre_ and _Pride and Prejudice._

It is just a TV show and a fictional script. What I felt bad about is how she used the children in this scene against their father and the children felt they had to support her. She was cunning and cruel. She should never have forced those two youngsters into the middle of this. I think the writers were being clever in showing that she was deliberate in her actions against him. Not one single one of his suggestions was bad, but she wouldn't have it. In this her character clearly wants only what she wants. Was a very interesting scripting of this.

Unfortunately, eventhough for many people, that is normal (not everyone is spontaneous) his continuity and followed up remark are even a failure. If you see various candid interviews - you can see Williams too, try to cover up from the awkward pauses. Looks like the mind is wandering somewhere else rather that adressing the press - you can see it then, you can see it now. Even Princess Anne responded within a snap of fingers to the press

She was 19 and groomed, they sold her the fairytail, she wasn't always 36, she was young and it was sold to her that he would love her. Unfortunately she didn't realise she was being used to birth heirs... Then, after her children and the feelings of isolation, and sharing his bed, bonds form, she clearly fell in love and wanted to make her marriage work, but was forced out by an evil Queen..... Yes, her husband's cold calculating mother... She made all the rules.
So you see, it's not as black and white as just "why did she marry him, and why did she not want a divorce".
You ever heard of love bombing, then hooking, then gaslighting, then destroying...... That was the Monarchy's strategy........

It's so sad to see the look of relief on William's face when Diana and Charles have a moment of tenderness on the plane. I think the impact their relationship had on their kids is not often considered in the general discourse about them. However, in real life, children witnessing a poor relationship between their parents often suffer from anxiety, or a sense of responsibility for the parents ect. Don't get me wrong, I think Diana is a truly wonderful mother, but the show depicts a bit of an unhealthy over-attachment to William. Not her fault necessarily, but not good for William! Likewise, Charles is loving and affectionate towards his boys, but the show depicts that he doesn't always know how to be close with them emotionally in the same way Diana does. So an environment like that, especially when the parents don't lean on each other for support, can make the child feel responsible for their parents emotions.
Disclaimer: I KNOW ITS A FICTIONAL SCENE. I am talking about the fictional characters we see on this show. I haven't enough info on the real Diana and Charles to comment on their parenting. So no snide comments about that please :3
