Wow, thank you for the 50,000 subscribers!
You deserve 100 times that!
@@josealves2128 5,000,000
A channel like yours deserves so much more than that. Keep going!
You don’t deserve 50,000 subscribers, you deserve at least 50 million
Why isn’t this guy at 1M yet he deserves so much
"He marched South, and captured more land."
"He marched South, and captured Moore land."
Let's not forget Portugal, in honour of their old alliance with Britain, sent troops to the western front in WW1 in 1916 and fought the Germans in many occasions, most notably at the battle of La Lys in Belgium.
Love this channel
Congratulations on 50 K, I think it is rather absurd that you haven’t gotten 10 times that by now!
Respect to Portugal, England/UK's oldest continuous ally! 🇬🇧 🇵🇹

Underrated channel! Keep the good work :)
I've subscribed, but promise you'll keep all your videos short and sweet and informative. Love to Portugal from Poland.
Amazing work!
Amazing video as always, your maps are incredible :)
Interesting work with highlights of the Portuguese history but misses the most important event to explain why Portugal exists since the XI century as an independent country. The event is the "invitation" from the king Alfonso IV (house of Leon) to Count Henry I (house of Burgundy) to marry his ilegitimate daughter Teresa and reign the Condado Portucalense (Portuguese County)
Very nice video. And the Portuguese pronouciation is top notch ;)
Keep it going!
Can you please do one for Spain?

Your screen cards say that Sebastian was born and died in the 12th century (1157-78), but that the succession crisis caused by his death occurred in the 16th century (1580).
Portugal was shortly ruled by Sebastian's great-uncle following Sebastian's disappearance. Because this uncle was a cardinal, he too did not have heirs, so the next in line was the current king of Spain, Phillip II.
@@joaonunoespiritosanto6233 That doesn't explain the four century disparity, does it?
@@KAZVorpal Sorry, my bad. Sebastian ruled from 1557 to 1578 and then his grand uncle, the cardinal Henrique, ruled from 1578 to 1580.

I think you got the first king of Portugal wrong
We're done with the letter P! Qatar is next!
The Spanish takeover in 1580 wasn’t random. The Portuguese and Spanish royals married each other quite often, and King Philip was both Sebastian’s uncle and first cousin once removed. He didn’t have the best claim to the throne, but he had the biggest army, so he got it.

That region although having a good number of Christian population was still very heavily muslim
It wasn't really an independence when that region was ruled by islamic emirates who fought back against Christian invasion.
It was more of a conquest than a liberation since much if the people in the land were either killed or exiled out of their homes.
you mean when Christians fought back Islamic invasions (dont twist history) ...
