    I always use it, it's cheap and works really well. I have found some colors run if you leave them afew hours before painting. Yellow silly putty is one of them. Great tip!

    A great tutorial indeed.
    If I may, I would use the putty only on the areas of the floor pan, (corners), than the tape would be harder to put down and mask off the larger areas all in one piece.

      @TheMuscleCarModeler  Před 2 lety +2

    There once was something I saw and used from rc car stores called liquid mask. You brushed in on let it dry then trimed it with a sharp razor blade before painting. I think it was mostly used for keeping paint of lexan wind shields on rc car bodies but I guess you could use it in other ways

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  Před 2 lety +1

      That is Liquid Masking Film. I have had it and tried it. Found it harder to use. Worked better on flat paint. Found it stuck real well to glossy paint and had a hard time pulling it off.

    I just watched another CZcamsr for miniatures use silly putty, what a coincidence. I like your tutorial better since you go into more detail, thanks. I have a question about masking the interior, it seems like a lot of work on a larger area. Could you mask with tape the large center portion and then use the putty for the areas up to the edges? I just looked into getting some silly putty on Amazon, a bit pricey, what’s a fair price for the putty that you’ve seen?

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you. I bought at Walmart. Have bought at hobby stores as well. You could mask then use the silly putty. I have tried that but still got overspray under the tape. So I just stay with one or the other.

    Great tutorial Raouel! You use the scale models paint. I got some for a ‘69 Cougar I’m building. Do you thin the paint? It’s pretty thin right out of the bottle. When I airbrushed it, it went on like cotton candy. Very stringy. Any suggestions? Thanks for sharing. Happy days and model on! 😎

    • @CaptSpeirsB744
      @CaptSpeirsB744 Před 2 lety +2

      There are several good chrome paints out there. I think the chrome in most kits is too thick and reflective to scale. In my opinion it makes the cars look more like toys. It appears that in the videos the chrome that Raoul uses looks pretty good. There is an article on painting scale models in muted colors to accurately represent scale. If I find it in my notes, I’ll post it.

    do you reccomend a certain thickness or just enough to cover the space you want to mask off? I have access to play-doh- will that work the same?

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  Před 2 lety

      I think thicker is better. It gets harder to remove when it’s thinner. I have not tried play doh. My son has some and I don’t think that will work as well plus it does leave some residue.

    Hi! Can someone help me? Can I use any color of Silly Putty to mask paintings? I've bought Silly Putty for this purpose as well, but I couldn't choose the color from the online shop I got it. As the add photo was the one with the red egg and beige putty, I thought they'd only sell that one. But when they arrived, I got two blue ones (it says "super bounce!" on the label) and a yellow one (it says "silly scents" on the label). Since I haven't opened the eggs yet, I would like to know if there's any difference in consistency or something that wouldn't work for painting miniatures with those variations. I would already like to thank anyone who is taking their time to read and answer this 😊
    Ps.: I live in Brazil and the original Silly Putty is reeeeeally expensive here (you wouldn't believe). But I bought the original anyway, since I've seen it's the best stuff for masking. That's why I'm asking for help, because if these ones don't work, I can return them without spending a lot of money, since the label isn't opened/damaged yet.

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  Před měsícem +1

      I have not tried any of those myself. I have used regular silly putty and it didn’t matter on the color. Super bounce may work but sounds like it would be thick. Scented may not matter but still don’t know. I did have one that was metallic and it worked but the paint stuck to the putty better than expected and the tape had trouble taking it off. The part itself came out fine.

    • @luodinson
      @luodinson Před měsícem

      @@TheMuscleCarModeler thanks so much! I saw you using the metallic one, and I guess maybe the ones I have may work well, too... I'm only afraid to open them because they were so expensive! How come a toy that is so little and is so cheap in one place be so expensive in other? That's because Brazil has the most monstrous taxes I've ever seen 👀

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  Před měsícem +1

    • @luodinson
      @luodinson Před měsícem
