I remember hearing once that CN hated this show because it “ruins the Image of Cartoon Network”. Now I think it may be that this show may have been evidence that CN’s leaders were out of touch and they hated it.
Yet it was still green lit and it did fine. It did fit with the channel. It was a cartoon with its own unique story and drawing style, which is typical for a cartoon, and the stuff that happened on The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy is not so much weirder than any of the other Cartoon Network shows at the time, let alone what was to come during the 2010’s. Billy didn’t look right with a small nose anyhow. It didn’t go with his design very well. The creator knew what he was doing. Didn’t think the final version was slightly larger than the original, though 😆

One day my cousin had it on at his house and we all sat down and watched. My mom let me watch after that because it was “just stupid”. She also bought me the movie when it came out on DVD and I watched it so many times.
Executives should have no hand or say in creative works like cartoons. I will say, though, kids shows back then were great because of the limitations set. There had to be clever work arounds for more adult jokes and gags.
If you ever feel useless, remember that the managerial class exists; and, if they’re offended that no one asked for their opinion and are taking it out on their subordinates, the system is working as intended
