One thing I hate about SN compared to TOA is how my teammates don’t fight as hard as I do. I do all of the work in SN while my teammates move around like toddlers

Really? That's actually one of the reasons i like them. Hell, i wish they werent even in the combat spaces, just lending me their powers and attacks and that's it.
I hate these stupid games with 4-5 characters on screen doing random shit at all times. It's too chaotic and usually results in enemies that don't react to hits and are damage sponges due to the constant and incessant attacks from ai.

@@kato093well I’m tired of being paired up with stupid bots that don’t do shit, every game where you have a party I stand and watch what the teammate AI does, if they can’t beat an enemy without my input it’s dogshit. Final Fantasy 7 remake pisses me off for that reason sometimes, DBZ Kakarot actually surprised me on that front. I just wish they added MORE enemies to fight instead of making my teammates completely useless unless I’m pressing an input for them, and I strongly wish they don’t go your route and take the characters out of the 3d space just to jump in when you input a command, why are you playing a teammate based game if you don’t want teammates fighting alongside you? Might as well not even have a party system. Either flesh out a good teammate system or don’t make a teammate system at all, why play a party based ARPG if you want your teammates out of the way? You’re looking for a single player experience with 1 protagonist homie, not a party system. Play a 1 protagonist game instead of asking party based games to be more like 1 protagonist games if you can’t handle multiple characters on screen at the same time

ToA. While SN does better at bonding with individual characters, ToA excels in almost everything else. ToA makes you feel like you’re exploring a more fleshed out world, whereas SN makes you feel like you’re just doing missions in the same places over and over.

I liked Arise more (overall felt better with story, characters, combat, world/field map (this is definitely one thing Arise has a huge edge on...SN felt's maps felt too much like God Eater/Monster Hunter's mission maps and hub map rather than an actual world while Arise felt like an actual world you journeyed through), and so on) but I will say that as far as final boss goes Scarlet Nexus definitely had a far more fun/epic final boss and fight than Arise did (and I'm not counting the final duel fight with you know who...for Arise, the final boss in Arise is the 2 stage fight before that imo as that duel is made to be nearly impossible to lose...kinda like the final fight in Symphonia Dawn of a New World and it's there just to add flavor to the story and wasn't really necessary).
SN also had far better alli AI than Arise (which as far as the Tales series goes Arise's ally AI is perhaps the worst in the series by far...same with the AI strategy menu due to it being party based rather than individual character based (many of the AI issues likely could get fixed if they let you customize each character's AI individually tbh)).

I LOVE THAT, so many times we're so consumed with review scores that our gut feel and actual personal experiences with a game take a back seat. Not to diminish game reviews or anything, I think it's a great way of getting an overview of how games are and help you make a smarter purchasing decision. But in the end, try out a game if you can, and if you like it, play it (and hopefully ACTUALLY finish it, lol)!

"It's better to play a 7 that you love than an 8 that you never finish." So true. I love Tales- but I love Scarlet Nexus a wee bit more. Just a wee bit. ^_^ And Idk why gamers have such strong opinions on which game is better- when in fact, playing games is a "solitary" activity"- it's YOUR CHOICE all the time- so the fun others are having on a game is just plain irrelevant since you don't get to experience other people's "fun" personally. FUN IS ALWAYS PERSONAL and subjective. So yeah, let's just have fun with our choices- that's it. ^_^

When fighting normal enemies, not so much when it comes to Minibosses and bosses though, they can only be staggered by boost skills which was kind of dull, I didn't really like it, especially when the boss' health is like 400k (looking at you Nazamil) or 800k+ (looking at you again Nazamil), in normal difficulty.

I just purchased Scarlet Nexus yesterday. And I’m loving the combat sytem of it. It’s not that hard but also not that easy. It really needs my full attention when battling bosses because I might die when I failed to focus.
However, I can’t say what is the better game because I haven’t purchased Tales of Arise yet, I am a bit skeptical based on what the video said,
Tales of Arise has a lengthy storyline, that I doubt I can finish. Because I’m busy in real life too that I only play games when there’s a free time.
But for now, I think it’s safe to say that it really is better to have a game that has a rate of 7 than a game that has a rate of 8 that you can’t finish.

@@nayeonranghae SN and ToA have similar style combat. They're generally hack and slash with the goal to damage a Crush(SN) or Break(ToA) bar and trigger a QTE to do massive damage. Each game feature unique ways to incorporate party members into battle. In TOA you can play as whomever you want as long as they're in your party and in SN you're stuck playing as the main character only. Both games combat are very similar in feel and strategy. I'm going to give the edge to ToA overall solely because you can play as anyone and being able to do that keeps the game fresh and extremely fun. But SN has more of a skill ceiling and is a great deal harder to master but once you get familiar with all the controls it's super exciting. Boss battles in SN are a lot more difficult and a hell if a lot more fun. Both games are great and it's no wonder they both fought over the RPG of the year spot. as someone who has and has played both i like both for different reasons. tails of arise has more engaging characters while scarlett nexus arguebly has more fleshed out story with the characters lacking as a result. tails of arise has the better combat imo but that mainly because i peefer combat with skills to choose from and upgrade rather then relying on other characters in scarlett to use the different abilities and such not to mention each character in tails feels distinctly different amd usable in certain situations. overall I'd say there both tied for me. if you have to choose one it really all depends on what your looking for. for combat and more story driven characters I'd say tails. but for simply the story I'd go with scarlet pnly because its story doesn't feel as slow later on

Haven't finished either game yet (I've gotten passed the Water Lord in Tales of Arise and I've beaten Yuito's campaign and currently going through Kasane's in Scarlet Nexus), but if I had to choose which one I like more, Tales of Arise. Part of it is just my preference for fantasy over science fiction, but I also like that you can play as each party member, as opposed to Scarlet Nexus where you can only play as Yuito or Kasane. Also, I feel like the story for Scarlet Nexus suffers a bit by splitting it into two separate campaigns; which ever one you play first ends up having spoilers for the other.

@@harlingaming6905 I've been meaning to get back to Arise, but I've got other games I'm working through, plus my job. As for Scarlet Nexus, the dual stories work together, it's just that experiencing one spoils the other, since most of the major story beats are presented in both sides of the story. It gets some mileage out of it by having details not covered in one campaign show up in the other, but by the end of one, you know roughly 90% of the story. I don't know, I guess I'm just used to games with dual stories not being as intertwined as Scarlet Nexus, that it felt a little lackluster playing through the other character's campaign.

My thoughts on both games And who wins each category.
    Characters: Scarlet Nexus
    Lore: Tales of Arise
    Combat: Scarlet Nexus
    Enemy Design: Tales of Arise
Story: Scarlet Nexus (By a landslide)
    Side Quests: Tales of Arise
    Character Customization: Tales of Arise
    Music: Both
    DLC: Scarlet Nexus
And this coming from a long-time Tales fan... I really think Scarlet Nexus is a better game. While Tales of Arise has many redeeming qualities, it doesn't actually deliver that good ol' Tales quality. The characters like any other suffer from the same anime tropes as many other triple A JRPGs, The combat is OK, but the boost strike camera along with the camera for the mystic artes moves so fast, you'll practically have to either be able to follow DBZ levels of movement with your eyes or simple watch them over and over and over again; which with how many hours it takes to complete this game... you will. Scarlet Nexus' monster design is very... constant. The monster end up looking so similar that many times when completing side quests, I went after a monster only to realize I was killing the wrong one because I didn't notice that the alternate had a characteristic that was barely different from the former. This is where Scarlet Nexus suffers. The lore is there in Scarlet Nexus... Just there. Not much to say about it. And while Tales of Arise has better lore, it tends to rely on extremely long exposition dumps quite a bit to inform the player. Character customization is alright in Scarlet Nexus, just better in Tales of Arise. I had more fun with it, is all. Music is good in both games. But the story is where Tales of Arise definitely falls short.
If you want to count on your ten fingers how many JRPG tropes the writers copped, then you're gonna need a whole lot more. Borderline femboy protagonist that can't be too masculine or else it'll alienate the female audience? Check. Lost my memory, but I'll eventually get it back only to discover I'm way more important than I initially thought? Check. We can't have actual consequences or sacrifices happen that would make sense in the world we built but will write ourselves into an easy ending with no one dying through the "power of friendship?" Check. Pulling out a surprise villain at the end of the story that no one has ever heard of and the player won't care about just to cap off the story? Check. The list goes on. And while Scarlet Nexus isn't free from any tropes itself, it indulges in them far less often. Tales games of old never used so many tropes to write their way into an easy ending to a situation. Colette contracts a rare disease in Symphonia. What do you think they did? Traveled the world in search of a cure through means that would make sense in the story and world, or... cure her with the power of friendship? If you chose the former, you are correct. This is what was needed in Tales of Arise, and it falls short several times in characters and story. But all-in-all, if you like playing a game with a relatively basic story and... interesting... characters; ToA is your game. If you're looking to immerse yourself into a believable world where fate and consequences are real. Where you don't know who you might lose by the end of the game because you've grown so attached to them with twists here and there, Scarlet Nexus.
My thoughts. There ya go. ✌🏼

I would say Scarlet Nexus is better and for a new ip man it made me want a sequel. TOA mechanics don't even apply to boss battles which ruins the combat greatly and story falls offf hard in the 2nd half. I also think the Nexus cast is better implemented into the game too. Scarlet Nexus story premise is also a really interesting and cool concept imo. TOA is alright but i don't think its a great Tales of game in comparison to the older titles of the series personally. Which is preferred comes down to preferences though.

Scarlet Nexus. Enemy design was significantly better (actually reacting to attacks and being less tanky), the dumbass CP system wasn’t implemented, the story didn’t suddenly fall of hard halfway through the game, the combat system never had “down periods” where nothing happened like the AG inevitably produces, the final boss was more engaging, and the main villain actual had a personality, unlike ToA.

  • @Ogudomon
    @Ogudomon Před 2 lety +4

I've played both pretty much a lot, beside didn't done extra content.
    Gameplay wise:
Not gonna lie, scarlet nexus is top3 hack'n slash game I ever played combat wise (played nier, dmc, Dynasty Warriors, gow and others). It's "hard" in a very good way and you need to understand pretty well game mechanics to do the things in a smooth way.
Brain Map is pretty good, equipment also is nice, mainly with lots of accessories, know how to use them well makes a big difference.
Level design and map interaction it's where this game shines too. Bring the things on next level. Know how to use the the stuff is pretty important.
Tales of Arise has a equal engaging battle style with your pretty good combos. I'll talk specially about Rimwell. Jesus, she is absolutely FUN to play, never a magic caster was so fun to play. Beside it all characters are pretty unique with their own style. I played with Shionne, Alphen and Rimwell most of time. I like the others but AI sometimes is dumb. Kisara in special need extra attention.
In ToA strategy and timing matter most than reaction speed, but that second can't be ignored. Knowing how to use your characters also makes a big difference.
Cooking and Fishing System are fine. And exploration it's a big part of the game too.
Also both game are absolutely gorgeous if you're into Anime style.
So, for me it's a draw, they are a success in their own way
    Story
Scarlet Nexus has a good story, it's nothing special, but it's pretty well wrote. The game is rewarding in make 2 different routes with different plots until the point of they converge. Yuito route it's linked to overall world building and main plot of game while Kasane route it's a bit focused on your own characters and a bit about what an Other is. It has a clever narrative.
What makes Scarlet Nexus weird it's the bait on use Akai Ito myth without romance.
Your main antagonist, Karen it's the most important character.
ToA story it's simple to understand plot wise, but it has a better writing and better characters in comparison with Scarlet Nexus. ToA feels deeper overall. It's a bit hard to put in words. Everything feels so natural, until lenegis part the game has an superb pace in a story telling. Plot wise the game it's pretty good too.
    So another draw
    Characters:
Scarlet Nexus characters aren't bad, but as said in video, they are bland. They have a pretty good construction, but it's a bit hard to relate, but my down here is... Kasane. Kasane it's a bad protagonist, she's annoying and playing her route made me bored sometimes. It feels less rewarding. While Yuito has better characters overall, Yuito is just too much of a good boy, but the story need that he's a reasoning person and his perspective of story is better for overall plot. Gemma, Luka and Tsugumi are good characters, Hanabi is fine, but needed more. While on Kasane platoon Kyoka and Kagero are good and essential for linking Kasane route to main plot on overall, while Arashi is fine as her role... Well, my big deal is Shiden... He works best in Yuito route than Kasane route.
The antagonists and supports are good.
ToA cast is just... Amazing. God, I'll try to take my sweet tooth for romance the most I can but... ToA main cast melts my heart. All them has so much personality and are so funny. Support characters are also pretty good... But the problem is Vholran. I can understand why he was wrote like that, but Vholran feels absurdly empty.
ToA interactions are richer and works pretty well with the overall. And that ending, when the ending song start to play I cried... Like, came so naturally
    So ToA wins here.
    OST
Scarlet has more variety, ToA ost is prettier.
    So a draw.
Overall experience ToA is my pick, but if you can play both, play both. They are unique games and pretty good at their own way. Bamco is doing a amazing job with your jrpgs. Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth and mainly Hacker's Memory and SRW VXT/30 are on overall good games too with their unique style of gameplay. Idk about Digimon Survive, didn't play it yet.

Ive played both games and got all their DLC's and heres my take
You play tales of arise if you are more into the lore and worldbuilding of the game meanwhile scarlet nexus has one of if not the best gameplay mechanics in a jrpg game with better endgame and dlc content (except story). Plus the boss fights are way better than tales of arise.
The story of scarlet nexus was good but if you compare it to a tales game such as arise, I'd rate it a 6/10. The main story lacked presentation and was fcking short so the worldbuilding wasnt that established even with the karen travers dlc story.
Tales of arise overall is 7.5/10. I couldve rated it higher if the gameplay was more optimized and smooth. The boss fights were more of a survival game than cinematic or memorable. But Im not lying when I say that tales of arise story and worldbuilding is within top 5 of my favorite tales series.
    So heres a summary
    Story - Arise
    Gameplay - Scarlet nexus
    DLC story - Arise
DLC content except story -Scarlet nexus
DLC value - Scarlet nexus (Arise DLC is too expensive and not worth it.)
    Open world - Scarlet nexus
    Leveling system - Scarlet nexus
    Endgame content -Scarlet nexus
Affordability -Scarlet nexus. They tend to go on 70%-80% discount frequently than tales

I love the Tales franchise but after seeing TOA gameplay and playing the demo I didn't like it at all. Its a great game but not a very good tales game, while the combat was repetitive in Berseria in Arise is feels more like chore. On the other hand Scarlet Nexus is a new IP I was following it close since it was announced and after playing the demo was a must buy for me.
The worst part of Scarlet Nexus is the static cutscenes after seing their normal cutscenes the statics are lame. But this something that have in common both games like they tried to implement something different but failed.
For the characters in Scarlet Nexus I didn't feel them flat at all. As you develop their friendship you can see how the relationship evolve and then giving them gifts can tell you a lot about their personalities. So I go for Scarlet Nexus for s fresh new IP with a bright future.

In comparison with TOA with this bright colorful world it's just an easy choice and you learn to like this system if you want to continue the story
