After posting my VÀsterÄs video, you guys suggested other places in Sweden that I should visit. Several of you commented that I should go to Visby on Gotland. Since the annual medieval festival was happening, I decided it was the perfect time to visit Sweden largest island!
We explored the church ruins and the medeltidsfestival, we biked around the city wall, and we befriended the neighborhood cat.
Overall, it was a 10/10! If you haven't had a chance to visit Visby or Gotland, I absolutely recommend it.
What video should I make next?

Congrats on finding one of Sweden's hidden gems! Tourists usually talk about Stockholm, Gothenburg or the great forests of the north, but Visby is really one of the places to visit.
    And that's one friendly cat!

"hidden gem" ? It is one of the most popular tourist places in all of Sweden?

@@lethuliv5500 Yes, indeed it is and you are absolutely correct, but that wasn't the point I was trying to make. Gotland is visited by a lot of Swedes and tourists from other Nordic countries (plus Germany), however, it isn't very well known among tourists from other parts of the world, particularly from outside of Europe.

There's even more to Gotland than just Visby. Lots of beautiful churches if you want to see them still standing (only one built after 1361). It's an amazing landscape! Go back to see the rest of Gotland :-)

Next time you visit Gotland make sure it’s in a warm summer month and rent bikes or drive there and take the ferry over, and explore Sudret, ie the south end of Gotland! Sooo beautiful, like a Nordic version of rural Greece, and lots to see.
The entire island is limestone so you can spend an afternnon picking fossils at the beach and swimming, seeing the Raukar ie tall rock formations standing around the coast in the water, there’s beautiful gardens to visit, local potter’s studios, communal saunas you can book for yourselves, and a lovely spa to get some lovely self care action, besides the pictoresque houses and churches!
There’s a great bed and breakfast since the fifties called Holm HĂ€llar where you can book your own cabin and have dinner too (lots of regulars in summer book far in advance though so availability only with planning ahead).
    Beautiful spot.
Up on the islands northern end there’s FĂ„rö, where Ingmar Bergman lived in a house he built, with lots to see there if you are a serious cineast.
Also some of the islands oldest working structures are up in the north, Slite for instance, and long stretches of coast are just wild, only sheep and a zillion trillobites on the beach.
Gotland is one of those places where so many Stockholmers go each summer to spend a couple of holliday weeks, I’m glad you enjoyed Visby!

Hi! It was me you met when you had your "medieval meal"... Well... it is ha half-truth. It is more of a fast-food version of medieval food.
If you are going next year, make sure to book a table at KapitelhusgÄrden and eat from the menue. And also, the Lammgille at Frimis / Bistra Haren is really good to.
Next year it is a Battle of Wisby-year so on thursday and saturday, they will have two reenactions of the battles between the Gotlandic forces and Valdemar Attedag (the Danish King). They will also have kind of a fantasy-theme, so you could probably spot a lot of LOTR-cosplay then if you like that.
If you are going next year - look me up and I will make sure to give you the grand tour of the festival. :)

Your very lighthearted attitude to the medieval environment seems funny to me. I cannot avoid thinking of how hard life must have been back then. If you walk up on the mountain north of the city wall, you see the gallows (one feet brick wall ring with three pillars). That's where lots of people ended up for screwing up just a bit.

One of the best vacations I did in Sweden was to go by bike on parts of the Kattegattleden cycle path in south west Sweden (awarded “Cycle Route of the Year in Europe” in 2018 when it was finished). It's 390 km in total, but we biked only Helsingborg-Halmstad since it was convenient to get to and from there by train. We rented electrical bikes in Helsingborg that we could drop off in Halmstad (not always allowed to bring bikes on trains here â˜č ). Most beautiful parts of the trip was around HöganĂ€s and the Kullahalvön peninsula - vineyards and gorgoeus hills here and there along the way, apart from the sea view. We catched a sunset at Kullens fyr - so beautiful! I'm thinking on returning to finish the rest of the legs of the cycle path some time.

It looks like the MTV was very downsized this year, but at least it happend. Cant wait for next year! Usaly there is happynings in every streetcorner, ruin or park. When in Visby one must always by the at KrÀnku, thats tradition
even if they now have a webshop.

Gotland is a beautiful island, but much more than Visby. Amazing nature, a lot of culture/history and handicraft all over the island. You vÀn visir the Island för seems and there will still be things left worth seing.

Hey Meagan, can I ask what camera you're filming with? Do you use a stabilizer of some sort, because your panning around is very smooth. I really love your personable filming and editing style :)

I sort of cant visit Visby, because I live there. KrÀnku, the shop. a quite well known shop for their own tea blends. Its not uncommon that I get orders to bring when I travel. Though their tea can be found in some stores on the mainland. KrÀnku by the way is the Gutnish word for a three legged stool you sit on when you milk cows. There is more to see on Gotland, one thing is the Rauk fields.

If you ever decide to go back, and not stay focused around Visby, I'd rekommend Lumelundagrottan, a "
Stalactite cave" in the northern parts of Gotland. I remember biking there from Visby with an ex and on our way there stopping for a "Saffron pancake" (a local delicassy) at a café we just happened to go past.
I would also recommend looking at Glassmagasinet in Visby as their gimmic is that they have over 260 different kinds of ice cream.
But great that you managed to go there during Medeltidsveckan and also while the weather was OK! It is not fun when it is pouring rain (which place is?) since a lot of the ruins lack roof :P
