- Episode 1: Left / Right Main Bus Processing. We will be digging into the Main L/R bus processing and talking about theories of mixing into certain processing and how to approach to matrices for sending your live mix out.
Drew Thornton is the FOH Engineer for Billie Eilish and since the industry shut down in March, he started this project named A Sum of Two Busses. He will be diving into his front of house rig for Billie's live show. While using some virtual soundcheck he will be walking you through some of his tips, tricks, and approaches while demonstrating interesting things that the Allen and Heath's DLive console and Waves SuperRack has to offer.
His goal is to make some fun and interesting videos focused around live sound mix engineering, the Dlive, Waves Soundgrid and share some tips, tricks and theories regarding live sound.

Wait don't you mix/used to mix for Periphery? All the legends are in this comment section.
Thanks so much for this the graph at the begging cleared up alot of ambiguity of matrices as a beginner. My suggestion for a future topics would be how to isolate vocals as best as possible. For example using wns pse or 5045 how you use those to get a clean vocal without being destructive. I saw billie has somesort of float in front of the pa
This is great! Thank you for this, Drew.
Cool episode drew, I Love what the nls/j37 is doing to your mix
SuperDuperSounds I actually dont hear a significant difference with these plugins (w/ AirPods Pro). What to listen for here?
Okay, I made a 2nd try. I hear a little „boost“ with NLS which is nice. With the J37 I‘m confused: to me the mix sounds more open, snare is coming forward and overall more presence/high-end when the Plugin is bypassed 🤔. What do you guys like about it?
Thanks for your ideas!
Great episode. New subscriber.
Just shared with my students! This is great! Thanks much.
To kinda quote Dickens "May we have some more, please"? ;-)

Do a walkthrough of your console and superrack :)
Eduardo Vivas great idea! What exactly do you want to know? My io paths?
@@asumoftwobusses6304 inputs/ your routing in the console. and just overall your mindset behind why you did something like you did in this video. your awesome man!
What’s the difference between “groups” and auxes?
When i add inserts on a mix bus it always returns on whatever input channel I used to pass audio through.
For instance: If I insert on I/O port 1 channel 30 and return on I/O port 1 channel 30 it comes back in on the fader that is associated with I/O port 1 channel 30 on the surface. Do i need to un-assign that fader? Am I overthinking, or am I missing something?
Also how can I measure the amount of latency coming from that group so i can compensate for it in the desk? Should I just not worry about using inserts because I lack the understanding needed to run them effectively lol?
3 db gr on master not more right ??
stealing your presets muhahaha
adam daube they are yours to take! Lol
