Alfa Romeo has a soft spot in my heart. One of the reasons is the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrigfoglio - an absolute monster twin turbocharged V6 sport sedan that feels pure bred Italian. So why don't we see more of these? Let's talk about it.

FYI: The F154 V6 engine is derived from the "California T" Bi-Turbo V8, meaning the Ferrari engine already had Turbos on them, contrary to the "California" N/A V8. So Giulia's engine got 2 cylinders removed and 2 different Turbos. Also back when Giulia was developed Ferrari was still part of Fiat, hence the strong Ferrari DNA and a bit of 458 magic in this car!

The Ring time was done with a stripped car (way less weight) and semi-slicks. You can't compare it at all. The Quad is a great car to drive also imho. But on a track it lost to the F80. The G80 is seconds faster on any track over 4 km. Also it was speculated the car had a tuned engine. So yes the Quad is a great car to drive and no it will not beat a M3 (G80) on any track. Carrera S laps 7:25 and the Turbo S 7:17. Totally different league.

And stating cars that came after it being faster, especially sports cars ..well wtf!! Yeah the BMW M3 is faster, but it took a while for BMW to catch back up didn't it(what was it 5yrs??) and it was Alfa's first try back into the market. I have owned all the american v8 cars in the past 5 years including a C7 and outside of the C7 it is the most fun car I have owned. Notice I said "fun" people not fast (would be different if we had a QV). It is such a shame that Alfa refuses to properly market their vehicles and sadly the shrinking and poor dealer support isn't helping make it better. The manual gearbox was available in europe only for the first year of production (2015) on the quadrifoglio. They produced only few cars with the manual, like 200 or so. Everyone wanted the automatic and now who owns a manual quadrifoglio owns something very rare.
The manual was also available for the diesel versions (afaik never sold in the US), but almost all were sold with the automatic because of 8 speed vs 6, the engine was tuned with much more max torque with the automatic (450nm vs 380) and the paddles, available as an option for about 350€ even on the cheapest giulia with base interior and the base 136hp diesel engine, are awesome. On the diesel models the manual was dropped after the first 2 or 3 years of production (2016-2019). I myself own a diesel, automatic with paddles. The petrol 4 in line was never available with the manual and here in Italy we have always had only the AWD version of the 4 in line veloce. It was never available here in the RWD configuration except for few month few years ago. I wonder why. Only the 200hp petro version (afaik never sold in the US) was RWD.

Completely agree, the Quadrifoglio is hugely underrated! I had the pleasure of driving one for a week as a rally leader for a Ferrari anniversary rally and loved every minute of it! It's unfortunate the GTA/m wasn't available in the states, that was an awesome package for this car.

Underrated by whom? All reviewers are positive about it? Maybe because you Americans don’t really get it what a proper sports-sedan is?

Thank you for your great review. I have owned 3 Alfa Romeos over 30 odd years but health issues forced me to sell my last, a 1984 Giulietta 2L. after 24 years.
Yes there is something unique about them. They demand to be driven well and the better you do the better they perform.
I like to say they become an extension of your hands and feet. If I ever recover I will buy a Giulia without a second thought.

My dad has a 1984 Alfa Spider, absolutely old Alfa Romeo. But a very special car. I own a 2019 Sport Ti giulia with over 40k miles. Zero problems, daily driver beat it to the ground. Never given me a problem except the battery drained and reset the computer when it sat in the garage for months. Drive it and it will repay you. Great cars

Owned my Giulia QF for almost a year now. Has been 100% reliable (this is usually the first question people ask), in fact more reliable than any of the german performance brands I have owned. I usually sell my cars after 12 months but this feels like a keeper, or at the very least I currently have no intention of selling it. It’s actually gaining iconic status in the UK, pistonheads are current running a vote on the best performance sedan of the past 25 years and based on the comments so far, the Giulia currently appears to be placed second after the e39 m5.

Couldn't agree more. I got to drive one a year ago and the owner was riding co pilot. He told me to give it hell and I did. I build drift cars for a living. I obviously own and drive a couple as well. This thing honestly made me look like a superhero. Actually quite a good amount of angle and the power makes you forget the need for a 3rd pedal. Left foot braking does get the rear brakes really, really hot but thats not a huge deal.

Bought a baby QV, the 280hp Veloce to daily drive & I think I'm gonna keep it until it's not affordable to keep going anymore 😂 Giulias are slept on for no good reason but I'm also ok with it being as rare as it is. Makes you feel special & it puts a smile on your face when you see another 1 driving the other direction

I drive a '17 Civic Si. I live in southwest Michigan and saw this listing a few days ago of a used 2018 Quadrifoglio sitting at an Audi dealership just a few blocks from downtown Chicago. I really wanted one and made a goal to test drive it. So I went there, took me 2 hours arrive and test drove it. The experience was super numbing, dull, pleasureless and I expected it to be with the shop's address being in the middle of baby Manhattan. I expressed my disappointed to the sales guy but of course it wasnt his fault simply because of the nature of the location. The next day I went through the listings again and saw another Quad with the same color, a year older, slightly lower mileage, cheaper but has a lemon title thats 30 mins away on the countryside in Indiana. I knew at that moment my expectations would be fulfilled, GLORIOUSLY. And it did. I test drove that car through some beautiful winding backroads and past a perfect straight by a cemetery. I swear I accelerated so fast it felt like I was gonna disturb the dead. For a guy who's been mainly driving cars with less than 200hp from the day he got his license, I can tell you that experiencing the power of a Quad - the FULL power of the Quad I should say - really really really opened my eyes to 'new horizons.' One of the best experiences Ive had in my entire life. The Giulia Quadrifoglio is truly an awesome car. I've heard reliability issues with the Giulias but I dont care. I'm thinking of going back to Chicago.

I agree, so underrated. The sports sedan for the enthusiast. Lighter, more precise, superior handling in its class. Beats M3 all day, eg.. Easy to drive fast. Better looking too (exterior, interior, wheels).
