  • Is the Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce really a half price Giulia Quadrifoglio ? I still think it is one of the best looking saloon cars on sale today and has aged so well. I love the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio but they are expensive and have high running costs. Can to much cheaper Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce deliver a similar driving experience and a much smaller bidget ?

I've owned my Giulia Veloce for 3 1/2 years & has been 100% reliable. Mine is in Stromboli Grey with red interior & calipers, I get complements all of the time, especially when I'm filling up fuel. You won't get that driving a dull default Audi or BMW, driving an Alfa makes you feel a million dollars but you will have to drive one to experience it.

Currently own a Guiletta sprint speciale & am looking at the Veloce as a replacement. Will be my 3rd Alfa, I've had zero mechanical or electrical problems on my last 2 (just the usual wear & tear stuff) but recommend using Michelin pilot sport 4's on them ( Much better than the Pirelli) & in the winter Michelin all seasons, you can just drive & not worry about conditions.
I live in yorkshire & during a cold snap recently overtook dozens of 4x4's clogging the roads on summer tyres sliding around in the snow like beached whales (But it's a 4x4! thefore better!) Use the right tyre is my advice.

I got an Estrema a little over a year ago and fell in love with the looks and driving dynamics. However, after a few months I found myself imagining what that sublime chassis tuning and steering would feel like with 500 hp, and what that engine would sound like under acceleration vs the 2.0T, which, while a great engine, does sound a little like a rental car.
So just 12 months later I am taking delivery of a 2024 Giulia QV Carbonio Edition and could not be more excited.

Great review. My MY2020 mid-life upgrade Veloce in Misano Blue, yellow callipers, I've loved it since I bought it new (after a 2019 Giulia 200bhp supersport and a 2018 Giulietta SuperSport). Have never had a reliability issue with any of them, simply no probs. Have taken Veloce from Drogheda Ireland to Nice France and back, it never missed a beat. The Veloce makes me smile every time I drive, its potent enough for everyday, 0-100 km in 5.7, 400 nm of lovely creamy torque, brilliant steering and seats. The aluminium paddles, a work of wonder - they are fabulous, the positive "click" on action and gear-change speed from the ZF8 is phenomenal. Cabin quality very good/solid, I dont care if its (perfectly acceptable) tech is not up there with my wife's 2022 BMW coupe, its a driver's car not a computer. More involving, more real than the BMW which is more clinical. And people want to talk about it, you dont get aggression from other drivers. And Alfa drivers wave at each other, we know we made the right choice, but we're rare enough to acknowledge each other. Go try one, no way will you be disappointed. I'm keeping mine.....

Love my 2022 Veloce, wonderful handling, styling, comfort and…reliability too. Zero issues in a year and a half and 17,000 miles. It does receive a lot of attention, helped by the Misano Blue paint and the 19” teledial alloy wheels. I have got 0-60 in 5.4 in my own car, they do have a momentary hesitation from a dead stop when accelerating, compared to my old Camaro that used to strain against the brakes until unleashed.

The thinking man's choice, the Veloce all day long! I love seeing the twisty road warning signs when driving mine (MY21 Volc black met/mica with red interior, petal alloys). It's a fun, sporting, beautifully balanced saloon with almost 2 personalities. Good motorway car as well. Dealership network a little thin on the ground but apart from that a great ownership experience. Very good review that says it all really. Forget the boring looking German stuff and buy a car with real road presence and respect from true petrolheads. Saving for a Quad. Still problematic so currently looking into water ingress via hvac system which I've done some work on (no joy so far). Despite all this headache, I still love it. All the clichés are valid here, sublime handling, sharp steering and a constant smile on my face. I too had a Sprint Veloce in 1980 - and numerous other Suds but the Sprint Veloce is the one I'd most likely to drive again. Have had Alfa's almost continuously ever since including a '66 Giulia Sprint GT and almost every Busso engined model. 164 QV is another stand out car but have a Giulia Quadrifoglio and it is quite simply the best car money can buy. I write this in Italy having driven here by a circuitous route for the second year and nothing covers the ground more effectively or enjoyably.

There is still a lot of stereotypical trash talk about Alfa Romeo, but the Giulia is on a completely different level in terms of quality and can no longer be compared to the old Alfas at all. It doesn't need to hide from the German competition in any way.
I've bought a MY22 Veloce Q4 and it's by far the best car i've ever had. It puts a smile on my face every single day! The 2 liter turbo I4 engine delivers enough power for my daily use and the sporty handling of the car round the whole thing off almost perfectly.
I also criticize the sound of the car and I wish there would be more "life" coming from the exhaust. A little too tame for my taste. I can also confirm that the infotainment system is a bit outdated and laggy, but I can live with that, because you don't buy an Alfa Romeo because of a stupid infotainment system but because of emotions and excellent driving characteristics.
I am a proud German, but BMW, Audi or Mercedes are no longer an option for me in this class. Once Giulia, always Giulia! Bella Macchina stands out of the boring German crowd! 🐉🍀🏁

Hello Peter. A fine car that not enough people buy as they stay with ugly BMW’s which these days, are probably no more reliable than the Alfa. My cousin had a Green Cloverleaf 33 for any years and did over 100,000 miles, no troubles of any sort and even on the Somerset levels with Winter mud, it didn’t even rust! An Alfa is a car we all should buy and never forget..it might be brave and it might not be perfect but it has something else….it has excitement and inspiration….a little like spending a night out with a young Gina Lollobrigida ….a German librarian might be safer but you would always remember Gina! Your analogy is probably bang on do you buy the ST or RS the S3 or RS3, Quadrifoglio or Veloce. I would love the RS, RS3 & Quadrifoglio but monthly's, Insurance & fuel usually put a stop to the heart & the head wins unless of course its a Mini and I did own the full fat Mini Hatch JCW with the Pro Performance exhaust but those days are over and my options are now whether I buy an S, SE or HSE and in that respect I always feel top of the range is best for residuals. I am glad you plumped for Red as the colour it certainly stands out. I have not driven an Alfa but I assume it gives you that certain feeling you get from iconic cars when you get behind the wheel of them close the door and drive. To sum up in this case I think it would have to be the V6 for me as I love the soundtrack of a V6 so the head would be over ruled.

We have a 22 Veloce that we have had for almost 2 years and we do love driving it. It is a terrific road trip car and in eco mode with the cruise set at 80mph I can do 500 miles to a tank. Driving sporty and it is amazing and one of the most fun cars to drive that I have owned.
Now for the huge negative, mainly here in the states, is their pathetic value they hold and the increasing closing of dealers. So like now when we were thinking about trading it we can't be cause of how negative we are in it due to how much they plummeted lately. Definitely a slightly used is the way to go if you are thinking about getting one. So far we have had no issues with our's and hopefully it stays that way since we are going to have to keep it for a while longer.

However, If you want a high performance saloon with a twin turbo V6, rear wheel drive and an 8 speed transmission but can't afford the top spec Giulia Quad, consider a Kia Stinger. It doesn't look as good but in terms of equipment levels, quality, and reliability it's in another league. It will also annihilate the Giulia Veloce in terms of performance.

This is a brilliant review. Spot-on with most points. I’ve owned over a Veloce since2020 and It’s important to understand that the dealer network in the south-east of England sucks big time. I’ve had three electrical issues now on the car and the last time it went to the dealer in Maidstone, it took about five or six weeks to do the repair and I was left with a hire car to go on a road trip which I had planned earlier on. when I picked up my car, they had managed to take a chunk of paint out of the door and make a nice scuff on the drivers seat. This car has been cherished but has been way too unreliable. The idea of buying an electric or hybrid Alfa Romeo must be for people who are out of their minds. It’s a superb drivers car when it works, but at the moment the dashboard lights up like a Christmas tree with only 11K miles and a local garage is waiting around three weeks for an ABS sensor which may or may not cure the problem. The engine on this car has been superb but the electrics are a joke. It’s my 8th Alfa Romeo and probably my last.

Great reliability and with proper tools and software not difficult to maintain for diy. The 2.0 is a quick car, not a brute like my much modified 2011 Mustang GT with Coyote engine, this much more composed for fast road driving., chassis more than makes up for lack of brute power.
