About a month ago I stepped outside my home in Canada and there was a kitten at the edge of the woods meowing. As soon as it saw me it came running up to me still meowing. I reached down and started petting it and it just started purring very loudly and hopped up in my lap. It didn't seem afraid or anything. Then I looked up and here comes 4 more. Before I knew it I was being mobbed by 5 kittens or at least what I thought were kittens. They turned out to be baby bob cats when I got a good look at them. I thought is was strange that bob cat kittens would walk up to a human so I walked out into the woods where they came out of and found the momma. She was dead and looked like she had been hit by a car. I took the kittens in and gave them water and called the Canadian wildlife center for advice. They told me to bring them in so they could evaluate their health and find them a temporary home until they were old enough to be released. They were so adorable I wanted to keep them but I knew that really wasn't possible. Anyway though I would share the story. Cheers!

I'm living this same story: found 4-5 wk old Snowy, scared and crying, wouldn't let me touch her, after 5 days I just grabbed her and cuddled her close. Soon, she was climbing under the covers to snuggle every night. Almost 3 now, it's a nightly routine! And it's the only time she purrs! We're so In Love!!!😺
Yep, you have to cuddle them close and rub them with your nose the first few days, then set them down so they know they’re not trapped. Do that frequently. They’ll eventually settle and love the closeness even if on their terms.
@@zuzuspetals9281 She's female, so, yes, love and cuddles is on her own terms. I've found that with males, they don't refuse affection.
What a lovely story! My Poppy is also the same, feral when we rescued her, now she follows us everywhere we go (yes, even to the loo LOL)
@@hjkayel9610 yeh, often, either Wicket (dog) or Snowy (cat) will sit on my pants around my ankles when I'm on the 'throne'. LOL!

I adopted a little calico. I already had a 2:05 friendly ginger kitten. They got along fine running around playing right away. However, she wouldn't let me touch her at all. It went on like this for a couple of weeks until one day I was sitting on my couch watching TV. She jumped on the couch next to me and sat there watching me. After a bit I reached out and scratched her head. She climbed onto my lap. She has become one of the sweetest little things I've ever seen and totally trusts me. One of her favorite things is to sneak up behind me and meow loudly making me jump. She then turns over on her back so I can pet her tummy. 😻

GF just sent me a vid of a cat she rescued in January, probably a month not more than 2 old at the time, today she looks so cute and content with shut eyes getting scritches but when she stops, the cat opens eyes wide, looks offended, and looks at her hand like she's going to attack if petting doesn't resume.

Sometimes all a "feral" kitten needs is a little time. Fostering a group of ten kittens recovered from a hoarder, the meanest one of the bunch eventually became the official greeter and purr generator almost overnight after I managed to pick her up once to hold for a few seconds before releasing. By the time we brought them back to the shelter, all but one could be pet and/or held for a bit, with the last holdout no longer hiding anytime someone was near.

My first cat or kitten as a young boy was an orange Tabby like Oscar. I have had many cats since then, but not another orange Tabby. In 1992 I vacationed on the Island of Kauai, Hawaii for 3 weeks in a condo on the beach. I bought the ground floor condo before we left to go home because of dozens of wild feral "Orange Tabby cats" that took the condo as their home. For 10+ years I split my time living in Kauai & the mainland. Every time I went back to Kauai my first stop would be the grocery store to stock up on cat foot, treats and cat toys. Every morning I got up with my coffee and dozens of Oscar's at my feet. That was heaven to me. The the condo assoc. voted to get rid of the cats and they did. I sold my condo and have not returned to Hawaii since. I would love to adopt a kitten like Oscar~! Shalom

A feral kitten appeared outside my house a few weeks ago, and had been sleeping in a hole in the ground. I left food over the hole and she ate it whenever I was out of sight. She was terrified of me, but now three weeks later I've become her mom and dad rolled into one. She likes to climb up my legs at a hundred miles and hour to nestle into the back of my neck or on my shoulder like a pirate's parrot. I'm 71 years old, so she'll probably live longer than me, so I better rehome her with someone with a little more time left. Oh, yeah, I live in the high mountains right near the Mexico/Guatemala border. Everyone here is indigenous Indians and they aren't really cat or dog lovers. They're the descendants of the people portrayed in that movie "Apocalypto". The ones who cut people's hearts out and tossed them down the stairs from the top of a giant pyramid. So if we can hook up somehow, I'll drive up to Tuxtla and send her to you on a plane. She's really cute.
