Greatest actor ever to grace a screen
Jack Lemmon could brilliantly do comedy AND drama. He also seemed to be a kind, decent man.❤ "The Apartment" may be my favorite movie ever.
Just watched it...
I just watched that movie for the first time and loved it! Jack seems like he was a real human being.
My father's favorite as well.
If you like that you'd like Irma la douce jack and Shirley are both in that
Jack Lemmon one of the best actors in history.
This is why we pine for the old days. Lemmon absolutely gracious and poised at once. A rare breed.
He was pure class
RIP Jack Lemmon (February 8, 1925 - June 27, 2001), age 76
You will be remembered as a legend.
Jack died just four days before the one year anniversary of the death of Walter Matthau.
God, how we miss Jack as well as Johnny.
This is why Johnny's show was so good. There were real men and women that walked the earth back then. Now. Not so much
T'he bunker scene and t'he tango dance with Joe e Brown two of t'he funniest scenes ever from some Like it hot
Jack definitely, not the Joan Rivers hater!
@@greggmcelhinney1228 I love that movie ♡♡
Well rounded actor. This guy could make me laugh or cry….he was great to watch
TRUE STORY> I was a bartender at Trancas Bar/Restaurant in Malibu during the early 80's. It was a hangout for local Hollywood Celebrities and Musicians. One day during happy hour I turned around and Jack Lemmon had just sat down at the bar. He ordered a Johnnie Walker Red on the rocks. He was all alone and was super nice. We only chatted for a little bit before my shift ended, but I will never forget what a class act he was. A few years later I saw ''Days Of Wine And Roses.'' What an incredible movie.
I lived in LA at that time. Was that the restaurant Eddie Van Halen would walk into and just go on stage and start playing? To everyone’s surprise.
@@michaelnewell6385 I don't remember seeing Eddie but it certainly could've happened. Mick Fleetwood would drop in now and then to sit in on drums, while I would be serving Christine McVie cocktails at the bar. Gary Busey and Jan Michael Vincent were regulars. They loved Cuervo Gold. It was a time when they were getting so wasted. I had to give Jan a ride home to Pacific Palisades one night after he had gotten in a fight with his girlfriend. Dennis Wilson was another regular. He rarely wore shoes. He got away with it because he was a Beach Boy & spent lots of money. He claimed that one foot was longer than the other because he played the drums. He was a nice guy, but had his demons. He passed away while I lived there. One time during the dayshift, he was having early cocktails and took his baseball jersey off and forgot it. I wore for years:) I lived in Malibu for 3 years & have incredible memories. I also worked at Malibu Photo and met even more celebs while there. One day Richard Pryor walked into me when I was coming back from lunch. Super nice guy & by far my favorite comedian. A few more customers were Robert Duvall, Larry Hagman, Ali McGraw, Paul Newman, Sam Elliott & a member of the Eagles. I took pix of a few of them, but most times I tried not to bother them since this was their neighborhood. Wish I could post a couple of photos. Sad that there are hardly any photos of Trancas. it was such a happening place. I have found a couple of stories about it. There are some poor quality videos that I just found, but they don't show the club. I may have been working during this one. ‘’Nile and Mick Fleetwood performing "Jumpin' Jack Flash" at Trancas Beach in Malibu, CA - 1985’’
How old are you if you don't mind me asking
@@ericfrm716 The Hendrix image should help determine my age. A proud hippie/surfer/artist from the Woodstock generation
@@waynelynch3862 I'm assuming you're 55-65
The more you see Jack Lemmon's work, more you realise he might be one of the most versatile actors.
Carson was King! He was the ultimate in class and style and there will never be another like him. I miss him. 😔
Denise Moore late night talk shows/ hosts are terrible.
There is more talent, integrity and class in this video than there is in the whole of Hollywood today.
Jack Lemon was a natural at his craft. Loved him in all his movies .He was truly a "class act", miss his comedic talents as well as his dramatic roles.
The great Jack Lemmon was a legendary actor, who transcended cinema for all time.
Superb actor and a very kind, bright, gracious gentleman. (I had an extended conversation with him once, and he could not have been nicer or more pleasant.) My favorite Lemmon performance was in “Missing” - the pain and anguish he communicated with his eyes, voice and body language was brilliant and emotionally overwhelming.
Lemmon was great in everything but he broke my heart in "The Days of Wine and Roses". He, Lee Remick and Charles Bickford were phenomenal. I watch this movie each time it's on TCM and I always end up crying.
I recommend buddy buddy it's an similar to the odd couple Walter is an assassin jack is basically Felix Unger its hilarious
My favorite Actor of all time!
Jack was always the lovable American every-man. When I was young, without really thinking about it, I assumed these guys would be around forever. And with You Tube that's true to an extent.
Johnny Carson and Lemmon are legends.Loved Jack in Grumpy Old Men with Walter Matthau
Don't forget some like it hot with Tony & Marilyn Mr Robert's great movie
Great memories and a truly great actor, both comedic and in drama. He and his generation sure are missed. God bless their souls.
Jack Lemmon was the most versatile actor in the history of film-making.
Eddie Mantle ---‘Days of Wine & Roses’ with the beautiful Lee Remick, fantastic acting from them both.
@@judywright4241 Had a chance to watch that a few weeks ago but passed because it was so depressing. A great great movie tho along with sterling performances by Jack and Lee.
yup, nobody even in his galaxy
Jack Lemmon laid the prototype for actors like Tom Hanks, Kevin Spacey, Jason Bateman, and Bradley Cooper. Actors who could easily transcend from comedy to tragedy in a snap. Kudos sir.
good point. Men don't look like Jack Lemmon anymore.
Jack lemmon's my all-time favorite actor, everything he did was just so good.
Great actor and great host. Those were the days.
Jack Lemmon.... My God so many fantastic performances. Wine and Roses... The China Syndrome, The Apt. ..... The list goes on . Wish He was here with us again. Just outstanding work and a dedicated modest guy. RIP Mr. Lemmon your work will live on forever....
Back in the day, if i heard Jack was in the movie you had to see it. Love Jack LEMMON.
He is my fave forever!!! I love him ❤
I'm 37 years old and I just love Mr. Lemmons work. Great versatility. As mentioned in this clip, Days of Wine and Roses was stellar. I also loved him in The Apartment and his comedic take in The Odd Couple. Class act.
Greatest actor in history, Mr. Jack Lemmon.
He used to say when the stage lights went on and was about to start acting "It's Magic Time".
Love Jack Lemmon 👍
One word Legend
Yes, we really do miss the artistry and personality of Jack. Truly, one of a kind.
The Great Race,,, Jack plays Professor Fate, he plays the Crown Prince, and he plays Fate pretending to be the Crown Prince. It is comedy gold, and utterly brilliant.
The Outoftowners is a ropt.
👁 'Push the Button, Max !'.
My sister and I constantly quote lines from this film!
Love that film…so much fun!
Jack Lemmon, the mans man, and the actors actor....you just do not see this kind of person or actor in Hollywood anymore. It was such a joy to watch him do his thing in every movie. Miss ya Mr. Lemmon!
Nothing but class. All due respect to Jack and Johnny, miss those days.
Mister Roberts. Love Jack in that movie.
I understand, that was his first movie, or first award for the movie...?
Jack Lemmon is one of the best for sure!
Holy Mackerel...I never saw this show, Jack is on fire...what talent.
Carson was just about the best .
Watch an entire episode to get the real feel of the show.
Jack Lemmon has always been my favourite actor. I put my hands in his hand prints at Grauman's Theatre in Hollywood- what a thrill. Jack and Johnny here are pure class and intelligence. How I wish they were both here, and that TV now is like it was here, not the trash it is today.
Just love Jack Lemmon person and actor ❤ ♥ Tuesdays with Morrie touched my soul ❤
Jack Lemmon was a special, and underrated actor. Unlike many of his contemporaries from the 50's and 60's, he was amazingly versatile.
Most of them excelled in a particular type of role, while Jack could do any type of role, and do it well. It was a rare trait then, and possibly even more so now.
All I know for sure is that Hollywood's star shines a little dimmer now that he's gone. He was one of the all time greats.
He's excellent but is 2 Oscars and more nominations really 'underrated?'
Lemmon left a legacy of magnificent movie roles. Mr. Roberts,The Apartment, The Odd Couple, China Syndrome, Missing, Some Like It Hot, and of course his Oscar- winning Save the Tiger. He always gave his best performance.
Jack was one of the best!
The greatest AMERICAN actor
An actor's actor
Just BRILLIANT
Some like it “Hot” 👍👍👍👍👍
R.I.P. Daphany
Fayz3r ---Don’t you ❤️the end with Joe E Brown, ‘Nobody’s perfect!’
Two American Treasures in a great interview.
what a duo johnny and jack.
Jack Lemmon was a fine, fine man and a great actor!!! I miss you wonderful Daphne 😘
The way that Jack described the frogmen, I can imagine that they were very active and full of enduring energy to move quickly with a lot of strength, swimming twenty miles per hour, going here and there to get a lot of physical work done.
Jack was one of the best actors ever. One of the few that really puts so much passion into their craft. They were born to do it.
Glengarry Glenross.... He stole the movie from such a stellar cast.... Great actor...
Ade Griff yes, that’s it for me. Odd Couple too.
I love that movie too..... Classic.. Those days are gone now.. But at least we have the old movies to watch.... Thank god...
That's true. So many great actors in that movie, but I always remember Jack Lemmon's performance most. He even outdid Pacino.
Great great role.
Agreed! His character was so desperate. I thought he was a lock for an Academy award, but wasn't even nominated. But seriously, how good was Alec Baldwin in his 5 minute monologue?
One of the best actors ever, great actor!
I love Jack
And i love Johnny.
Pure class & talent.
Always loved him.
"You've never had any really close calls then?" That story about running out of air underwater sounds like a pretty close call to me.
It also sounds like he was really exaggerating his depth when he said he was 100 feet down.
Wonderful MR. Lemmon. - "The Trouble With Harry" with Shirley.
That was John Forsythe.
Jack Lemmon was in a League of his own. Just like Mr. Carson. Thanks for sharing.
I remember watching this interview when it was originally broadcast! I would have been only 14-15 years old. The story of the scuba experience on the “Airport” film was so funny to me that it always stuck with me. I am tickled I see that my memory of the story all these years later was pretty accurate-that’s how much of an impression it made on me back then! Thanks for posting this wonderful tribute to a terrific actor.
Great actor and he also seemed like a nice guy
he was a beautiful man.
What a great conversation! Intelligent, enlightening, mature, engaging. No dumb glitz or stupid and childish glamour from second-rate and so-called celebrities with a three-second attention span. Kimmel the Communist, Goofy Jimmy Fallon, Over-opinionated Colbert, etc could learn volumes from JC.
Totally agree with you mate. I like how Carson treated the audience to intelligent conversation and humour. I was born the year of this broadcast but I feel more at home watching this and I feel totally alien to any of today's shows.
jack lemmon, lovely actor!!!
He played the piano well too.
Great video. Thanks for your time and effort for posting.
THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER CARSON. 🤛
Oh how I miss these talented people.
THE best movie ever by Lemmon "Wine and Roses"
03/16/2020
Johnny Carson was always a pleasure to watch. Not like the late night hosts of recent. Seems like all they can do is run down the president & call it comedy. Johnny, as in this interview alone, has a very interesting & engaging exchange with another adult. No political talk, etc.
Thank you for posting. 😊
Many wonderful moments we enjoyed from this great actor.
Will never see the likes of these actors ever again
Mia fio agreed
Sure we will. Be positive!
Mia fio --Being an adult is made fun of now, so childishness seems to be esteemed when it’s boring as hell.
Jack is one of the top movie actors of all-time. You decide the ranking...
One of the very best of his profession Mr jack lemmon
Bell, book and candle. My favorite.
This is so refreshing comparing to today’s talk shows.
Jack was always underrated but , never disappointing …
Best movie he did …
Mr Robert’s … with William Powel , Ward Bond , Jack Nicholson , Henry Fonda & Jimmy Cagney …. Great movie ❤❤😊😊
Save the Tiger. Fantastic movie if you have not seen it rent it now.
Very sad one.
Jack Lemmon, an artistic genius.
Love this. A little banter here and there, but this was back when we had real conversations. I’ve learned new tips about acting in this 9 minute video than any of the ones we have nowadays on shows.
what an odd coincidence--I just watched Days of Wine and Roses. This popped up on youtube and they're talking about it. Man, Lee Remick was fantastic in that. So was Jack Lemon. What a somber, harrowing, great story.
🍋 Lemmon
Just watching Irma La Douce at the moment and had to stop and see the legend in person. Oh so I wish I’d lived in those times. Watched The Apartment the other week for the first time in probably 20 yrs and completely forgot how good it was. That’s when I fell in love with Shirley MacLaine. Anyway, back to Irma. Jack, you’re a legend and one of the greatest ever if not THE greatest. Thank you so much. xxx
Two old-school class acts-much missed by millions.
It's hard to believe that the same actor could do 'Some Like It Hot' and 'The Days of Wine and Roses', but one did, and did it masterfully
I liked him in Glengarry Glen Ross 👍
Days of Wine and Roses inspired the song, Ain't No Sunshine by Bill Withers.
4 top movies of Jack's I love.
1.Some Like It Hot
2.The Apartment
3.Irma La Deuce
4.The Out Of Towners
How we miss these great actors from that era. I hope he & Walter have reunited in the afterlife. A great odd couple.
He and Sandy Dennis in the Out of Towners were so funny!!! And I love the Odd Couple!!!!! Miss his caliber of actors!!!!
Jack Lemmon was a National treasure! He could play any role. Sheer brilliance...Loved him in "Some Like It Hot". I'm a girl, I'm a girl, I'm a girl.
Too bad he missed for "Days of Wines and Rose." IT was Oscar-worthy. Lee Remick was awesome too. The movie and those two will always be remembered for their performances in that movie.
Margaret my favourite too!
Also he and Sandy Dennis in 'the Out of Towners'.
Mildred, he's at it again! Can't get enough of The Apartment!
THE APARTMENT
"How To Murder Your Wife" and "Fortune Cookie" are the ones I'll never forget. It's been 40-50 years and I'm still playing scenes in my mind.
Professor Fate and Max (Jack Lemmon and Peter Falk) were the greatest bad guys ever!
Yeah loved Peter Falk in Robin & the 7 hoods I still can't find that movie
Maxxxxxxxxxx...!!!
....and the prince!
missing is such a great movie!
He was so wonderful in everything I've seen him in from his first ones with Judy Holliday to grumpier old men, Tuesdays woth Morrie... but if you want to see him and he seems to be having a ton of fun... The Great Race... Professor Fate.
He was great in grumpy old men! Awesome movie
The Odd Couple!😊💖😊💖 One of My Favorites!😊💖
Johnny and Jack were both born in 1925 and served as Navy Ensigns assigned to ships; both were commissioned through the V-12 program. Lots in common.
Very fine actor. My favorite best ...Some Like it Hot, and, The Odd Couple . Also The Apartment. Great acting, a few more. That stands out! Can't think off the title, but about Parisian Bohemia. Priceless. 🇩🇰🇺🇸🦅💌
Irma La Douce?
If you look at the late night talk show hosts now and compare them to Carson, there is no comparison. He was incredible. Lemmon was fantastic in everything.
Some Like it Hot. My favorite movie of his. So funny!
Love you Jack!
Compared to current Late Show hosting turkeys Johnny was a genius
I liked 'The Out of Towners'.
The original Out of Towners with Lemon and Sandy Dennis was so much better than remake flop with Steve Martin and Goldie Horne .
Oh my God
@@770WT 🍋 Lemmon
@@evanwolf6618 I was going by the Don Lemon version .
Yes that movie is my favourites Jack Lemmon one. So funny! Great actor! X
