I fell in love with this porridge when my son was having spinal reconstruction surgery in the Bronx, NY. A sweet Jamaican grandmother made this and other breakfast items and served it to the parents of the children in the hospital every morning. I didn't any of the Danish, cereal or other items after having this porridge! It was so warm, delicious, and comforting during a difficult time. THANK YOU for this recipe!

Man, what is this fascination we West Indians have with food that's burnt at the bottom of the pot ("bun pot", as we say in Barbados)? Lot's of folks here, especially the older ones, purposely burn rice, because they can't get enough of bun pot! lol
Wellllll,we in Trinidad call it "bun bun' and mannnnn it is delicious!!! lol lol
we used to do the same in Zimbabwe, the hardened layer at the bottom of the pot tates like biscuits. I guess its a black thing from a long time ago.
I’m planning to make this today for my family. I am from Guatemala and my sister and I visited Jamaica 2 years ago and I tried this Porridge at a hotel we stayed at and I LOVED IT!! We REALLY enjoyed our trip. Delicious Food ...Beautiful people! ❤️🇯🇲

I’ve been using this recipe for years! My mom used to make porridge for me as a kid and now she says I make porridge better than her! I did alter the recipe slightly though by adding a cinnamon stick before the water boils and then remove it when it starts boiling. I also start with 4 cups of water and use two cans of coconut milk. It makes it super rich and creamy. I highly recommend!

I have been following you for about a month now!!!!..... I was soooooo tired of making the same old American meals. I searched jamaican recipes and VIOLA! Miss Juliana had arrived! My husband has fallen in love wit me all over again! Keep the recipes coming! You make it so easy to follow. I even use a jamaican accent when I cook it. (LOVE YOU FOR THIS) Wish I could come down to jamaica to come give you a huge hug. When I serve my husband... we get a kick out of saying "FROM MY KITCHEN TO YOUR....ENJOYYYYY". LOL! This was the breakfast that everyone's Grandma made. Whenever she would come visit us in Canada from Jamaica,the first thing she would do is make porridge. She'd force me to eat it no matter the time off day.

I'm giving you a "like" because I like your attitude. You know all porridge is good porridge, by many names...polenta.....fried mush.....hot water cornbread.....and it's all cheap. My Puerto Rican Grandmother used to make this. I woke up one morning with this on my mind and found this recipe. I followed exactly but didnt have condensed milk so I left it a little thick and added 2 tablespoons of butter and french vanilla coffee creamer. Came out great. Thanks for the video. I'll use condensed milk next time.

As a kid, I loved the Lumpy - Lumpy. I use to call them dumplings. And scraping out and eating burned porridge from the pot bottom was also a favorite of mine.
