Officers clear pro-Palestinian protest encampment at USC

- Law enforcement officers in riot gear cleared another encampment formed by pro-Palestinian demonstrators on the campus of the University of Southern California early Sunday morning. According to media reports, as many as 100 protesters had pitched tents and erected banners at the private university in Los Angeles.

Nobody forced any of the protesters to clean up after the riots in 2020.
Those students who were supposed to be journalists just repeated the encampment PR almost verbatim, right down to using the term "teach ins".
I suspect these students got in to USC based on other things than grades and SATs. Listening to the person who appears male was torture.

They are. Billions in US taxpayer money is being used to fund Israel's military. The result is 42,000 dead civilians in 200 days, 70% women and children. Meanwhile, Israel has free health care, affordable housing and free college. Americans usually take up large debts for those same basic services. Yet we can afford to arm Israel? Israel could not afford to continue its genocide without financial aid from Americans.

@@waste0fspace588Protesting to the Dean isn’t going to help. They can write a letter to Congress or study political science and go into lobbying or government if they want to make a difference. Hit the books and do something with your life. Making a scene and calling on the school to stop investing their money is incredibly asinine. Nearly all of these protesters buy things that support Israel directly or indirectly and are clueless. Basically 99.9% of everything you buy in the U.S. is from a company that does business with Israel or invests in businesses that do business with Israel. You can’t just “divest” fully from them even if you wanted to, but the truth is the University endowment invests in a way that is best for them and the school, not the way that makes protesters feel warm and fuzzy but won’t change anything.

So the USC main commencement was cancelled. The ‘schools’ within the university can hold their own; law school, film school, and such. Oh and the Black student commencement will happen Wednesday.

The protestors should be assessed a fine to cover the ongoing cost of maintaining a standing police force and the jail capacity to deal with such nuisances. It is not simply free speech when you make demands and create an annoyance until they are met, it is something between harrassment, extortion, and coersion.
Police aren’t there for protesters there there to get between protesters and those protesting against the protest but I do agree with you resources have been waisted but why should these students have to pay when we the Americans have had to pay for Israel’s conflict when it’s israel who fails to negotiate even if the palestine ignored all negotiations. This is no different than the sit-ins during the civil rights movement or the student building occupations during the Vietnam anti-war movement.
It’s very different. Sit-ins during the civil rights era were the oppressed sitting in places they should be allowed to sit in protesting in their oppressor’s faces. Protests in the Vietnam era were dual protests also over civil rights violations and plans to have segregated buildings right on campus, and students had friends and family being drafted to fight in a meaningless war. TODAY we have people protesting to the local Dean to try to end a war on the other side of the world that no American soldiers are fighting in and that Hamas started this time but it has been going on for thousands of years fighting over the “Holy Land”. They’re completely misguided. Hit the books, study polysci and become a lobbyist or volunteer or go into foreign policy or even protest, but not by harming the University itself that has nothing to do with this war and is powerless to stop it-go protest in Washington or your local Congressmen and women.
