Ranier Racing’s Chevrolet Monte Carlo 1984 Winner driven by Cale Yarborough.
In 1983, MC Anderson closed his racing operation, and his driver, Cale Yarborough, moved to the Number 28 Hardee's Chevrolet owned by Ranier-Lundy Racing. In 1983, Cale competed in 16 events. He won four races, including his third Daytona 500, his sixth Atlanta Coca-Cola 500, and swept both events at Michigan, along with three poles. In 1984, he carried on his winning streak by winning his fourth Daytona 500. He became only the second driver in history, along with Richard Petty, to score back-to-back wins at Daytona. (Sterling Marlin also won back to back at Daytona in 1994 and 1995) Continuing to make '84 sizzle, Yarborough won the Winston 500 at Talladega, a race that featured 75 lead changes. Finally, to complete his season, he won the Van Scoy Diamond Mine 500, along with four poles. In NASCAR parlance, "he ran the tables", and all of these victories were in the Hardees # 28, a car that Cale Yarborough made iconic.
Now, Salvino's Jr, working from well-respected vintage Monogram Tooling, has replicated yet another iconic race-car. This highly detailed kit features an authentic period correct engine bay and chassis, as well as an accurate racing interior. Combine this with the highest quality screen printed decals from Powerslide, and like Cale, you will be a big winner!
Yarborough won a career-high and modern-era record fourteen poles in 1980, captured six races including sweeping the events at Rockingham, and scoring wins at Bristol, Michigan, Texas and Atlanta. Yarborough barely missed out on his fourth championship in five years, losing the championship to Dale Earnhardt by 19 points.[38] At the end of the season, Yarborough announced he was leaving the Junior Johnson team and would run a part-time schedule for the rest of his career. He was replaced by Darrell Waltrip. Yarborough won 55 races while driving for Johnson from 1973-1980, compiling an amazing winning percentage of 26.57 percent.Yarborough competed in 18 races in the 1981 season in the No. 27 Valvoline Buick for M.C. Anderson, winning his fourth Firecracker 400 and his fifth Coca-Cola 500 at Atlanta, finishing in the top-ten a total of ten times.[39] Yarborough competed in 16 races in 1982, winning three, including his hometown Southern 500 for the fifth and final time.[40] He also ran the 1981 24 Hours of Le Mans finishing 13 laps before a crash ended the team's efforts.
In 1983, Anderson closed his operation, and Yarborough moved to the No. 28 Hardee's Chevrolet owned by Ranier-Lundy, competing in 16 events. He won four races, including his third Daytona 500, his sixth Atlanta Coca-Cola 500, and swept both events at Michigan, along with three poles.[41] In 1984 he repeated by winning his fourth Daytona 500, becoming the second driver to score back-to-back wins, the Winston 500 at Talladega, a race that featured 75 lead changes, and the Van Scoy Diamond Mine 500, along with four poles.[42] Yarborough also captured the IROC VIII championship. In 1985 after his team switched to a Ford, he won his first Talladega 500 and scored his final win in the Miller High Life 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.[43] He also finished eighth in the final standings of IROC IX.In 1986, Yarborough won his final career pole at the Firecracker 400, and had five top-ten finishes.[44] He scored a victory at Talladega during IROC X and finished third in the standings. In 1987, he left the Ranier-Lundy team and purchased Jack Beebe's Race Hill Farm team. Yarborough took the Hardee's sponsorship and began running the No. 29 Oldsmobile Delta 88 as an owner/driver, posting two top-five finishes.[45] He ran his final season in 1988 in an Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, entering ten races and posting two ninth-place finishes.[46] He retired at the end of the year. - Auta a dopravní prostředky

The late 1970s - late 1990s was the greatest golden era of NASCAR. Love these cars.

The 83-88 Monte Carlo SS' easily my favorite race car. Loved seeing them out on the tracks. Best era in Nascar IMO. The win on Sunday, sell on Monday effect was real back then. Chevy sold a ton of those cars.
I agree!
I remember those days of NASCAR... miss them... Another awesome build my friend... a fantastic finish.!! :)

Great looking car, I built several of the Monogram model cars myself. And have them displayed in a cabinet that I got from my mother -in-law. And I have a unopened Tim Richmond Monte Carlo, and several Earnhardt Sr. unopened kits also. The Monogram kits were the most fun but I also built the ones by AMT/ERTL.
Thanks for watching the video, much appreciated!

Cale Yarborough was my favorite driver back in the day. I loved building this car when it first came out. I displayed it with my Cale Yarborough autographed photo.. I was a proud puppy on that one.

Nice clean build!
If I could make one suggestion:
For your tires - The Monogram/Salvinos tires are made of a harder compound rather than the later Revell tires which are hollow. You can sand the treads down a bit more.
This is how I do my tires:
Put the rims in. Place a dime over the rim (fits perfectly). Then use LACQUER clear on the sidewalls (decals go on better on top of clear). Put the decals on (while the wheels are off the car). Use flat LACQUER clear on top of that. It will seal everything and give it a better look. Plus you can handle the wheels all you want and you wont mess with the decals.
One more thing - I build the engine complete before installing. Yes, it's a squeeze but you can get the engine in without attaching the firewall or headers later.
But yeah, really nice build. You should be happy with this one.
Thanks for watching.
I'm happy with every kit I build, it's part of just enjoying the hobby and not taking it too seriously that I push in my channel. Thanks man!
@@hpiguy No worries! The build looks great and you should be happy! I was just trying to give ya some info, that's all.
Fabulous job and always outstanding videos. Thank you for sharing your techniques.
You are so welcome!

I grew up in the south and this is my ABSOLUTE favorite stock car! I still have the 1:64 in my collection. I have a decal sheet and donor car to build this. I had no idea it was reissued.
Sweet!
MERRY CHRISTMAS Chris and thanks for the Christmas day review/build. I am glad these kits are coming back, I have several originals from the 80's unbuilt. Some had tool boxes and pit accessories and other goodies. I can buy these new kits and save my originals, best part is the new decals however, there is very little flash on the originals as the molds were new but flash really never bothered me as it is easy to remove.
Thanks and enjoy your hobby!

You do such a great job. I like to use the chrome Molotow pens to do around the windows. Got me some black wash on order. Thanks for tips!

Looking forward to this review. I group up in Spartanburg SC, home of the very first Hardee’s restaurant started by Jerry Richardson. I have also been a Nascar fan for almost 45 years. Cale was also my favorite.

I have yet to build a single Salvinos kit, but I have 15 currently sitting on the shelf waiting, and plan to buy at least one of every kit they release. Just inspecting the parts in the box, I am blown away at the quality, even of these old Monogram repops. They absolutely do have the BEST chrome in the business, and the decals are beyond awesome! Not to mention they provide awesome customer service when it comes to missing parts!
Thanks and enjoy your hobby!

I love these kits. I don't think there is anything wrong with them what-so-ever.
It's very cool they were re-issued. I have about 27 of them, "don't plan to run
out anytime soon!" Enjoyed this video, as do all your videos bro. Merry Christmas,
hope Santa brought you everything you wished for? See you in the next review!

Nice build Chris👍 Great tip with the masking. I just orderd this kit myself and it is gonna be my first NASCAR kit build. And Im really looking forward to build it. I really like your channel and that you push the fun side of modeling. And you push to not build for anyone else, build it for you! Keep up the great work! (Sorry for bad english, Im from Sweden)
Right on! It's all about the FUN for me on here, I don't stress things. Model making is supposed to be a hobby, a way to enjoyably pass the time and chill out.
@@hpiguy Thanks for the awnser! I was wondering if you are gonna do a build of the 1/16th scale Petty Charger, or a unboxing? I would love to see that, I think it is a really cool kit! And I love the looks of the 60ties to 80ties stock cars! I hope i can get a hold of one here in Sweden, probobly not but i hope. The NASCAR model kits is unfortunatly quite hard to find here.
Love those monogram NASCAR kits. I still have some not assembled.

The NASCAR models are always my favorite. I want to start buying and building them. But the problem is I don't have a steady hand and would mess up the paintjob and decals. I know you said it doesn't have to be perfect, but I also don't want it looking like a complete disaster. Although my dad would probably help me.

Damn that looks good
Another great job Chris the paint scheme turned out fantastic I don't know what generation those monte carlo's are but to me that was my favorite era of race cars because you could go right down to the Chevrolet dealership there in Daytona and buy one that was so realistic to the race version!!
Thanks and enjoy your hobby!

I haven’t had the luck brushing future over my painted models. I have often been left with finishes that have tiny micro bubbles in them. I end up having to strip the model and repaint in laquer based base and top coat. Future has worked well for me for sealing decals and applying a final full coat for military builds. I with I knew what I was doing wrong
Bubbles come from shaking the bottle, shaking the brush in the bottle or putting it on too thin and messing with it as it dries and not just walking away and letting it self level.
Check out my video on the Concept Camaro, I go over using Future the way I do it.
excellent tutorial; none of this stuff is included in any model's directions. I bought five of your reviews and builds and used your pointers including the pens, pencils, all the sprays and the craft paints. I have more damn colors in a drawer than I'll ever use unless I buy and build 30 more kits to add to the three on the bench and the 20 in the closet. But I'm learning plenty and I enjoy it. Thanks. Congratulations on Model # 65(?.) Keep at it.
