  • NARROW ESCAPE - our narrowboat life adventure. In this episode, we hang around waiting for the lock directly in front of us to be repaired and for the canal to re-open. Once it does we're off and making our way to Wardle Lock and the shortest canal in the country where Sue tells you a bit more about a wonderful woman called Maureen.
    JOURNEY - Middlewich to Middlewich
CANALS - SHROPSHIRE UNION CANAL, WARDLE CANAL AND THE TRENT & MERSEY CANAL

Had the pleasure of meeting Maureen on a few occasions and having a chat with her while leaning on her gate ❤️ Lovely interesting lady.

I really hope Sue gets her earache problem resolved. No, I don't mean you Elliott 😅
I enjoyed Sue's story about the Wardle Cottage and the lady who ended her days there. I have heard it before, but the way Sue told it, brought a tear to my eye.
The gap in the footbridge is to allow the line from the horse to the boat to pass through without the need to unhitch it.
Just as an aside. When talking about ropes in the context of ships and boats, they are referred to as lines. i.e. knots and lines. Just saying.
Good spot of the tyre though. Can't have the boat knocking against the side like a dodgy bedhead... 😂 ❤

🤣🤣it’s funny you mention it Harry because she only gets earache when I am around…🤔🤔
Glad you enjoyed Sue’s piece on Maureen and her lock. I got some serious ear ache trying to convince Sue to film the piece but hopefully worth it in the end?
You are quite right that before humans the gap was originally for the horses…I shouldn’t try and drive the boat, film and talk at the same time 🤣
      Dodgy bedhead 😱🤣🤩

Glad you appreciate the engine impression…it was surprisingly accurate actually 🤣 and thanks for the well wishes for Sue.

I think the gap in the bridge allowed the horse to pull the boat through without getting unhooked.

Hi you are correct, it was to save the horses from being unharnessed

    • @NarrowEscape1

You are 100% correct John. Clumsy ‘in the moment’ wording from me. The design now allows for single handers to pull the boat through (a relatively rare thing on the canal network these days), but originally it was for the horses.

Hahaha😂 “is my Ho heaving”? Yeah, heaving your ass into the canal if you call her a ho again 🤣. I was watching in bed with headphones on and it just made me laugh out loud. I got moaned at by the wife who was watching call the midwife 🙄. There was a huge tailback at the lock, glad it’s all open and you got moving. Beautiful sunrise you had, but you know what they say “red sky in the morning, shepherds warning”. Sorry to hear Sue’s suffering again ❤ take care guys, have a good week 👍

🤣🤣 it’s one of the products of ‘us just being us’ , the camera gets turned on at random moments and randomness gets said!
We both had to laugh at your comment about laughing out loud and getting told off though 🤣
Think you might have been right about the lovely evening sun…we were warned. Hey Ho 🤣

Hi K - we’ve just seen the Buy Is A Coffee notification so will send you a separate message on there but THANK YOU for that!!!
The kart tyre did work perfectly but I have discovered a bit of a drawback…the inside curvature of the tyre collects old water which you struggle to remove so it then ends up wherever you store the tyre 🤔
Good spot indeed but we won’t spoil the forthcoming vlogs…👍

Hi both sorry Sue is unwell I hope she recovers soon. Our boat has made it to the marina at last , it took just over 7 days for the boat mover to take it from North Kilworth via Rugby to Fazeley and on to the Coventry canal through Knowle, Lapworth and on to Stratford on Avon. Half a day stuck behind a 70footer stuck in a lock ! If Napton and Stockton locks were not being fixed it would probably only have taken 5 days. Timed perfectly as river is rising so it was moored up just in time! X

Hi, do you mind disclosing the daily charge you had to pay for your boat to be moved. I would like to do this myself as a job but don’t know if it’s going to earn me enough. Sorry if you find me rude, please ignore the comment if so,thanks

    • @NarrowEscape1
      @NarrowEscape1  Před 7 měsíci

Glad to hear the boat got into the marina just in time - those sorts of times logistics can be a real pain!!
What is the recommended size for boats in the lock where the 70 footer was stuck out of interest?
Some nice bits of canal travelled there, not that the boat mover would have been admiring the scenery too much.
      👍

@@NarrowEscape1 according to boat mover it needed CRT men and him to help the boater , the boat had spread about running strip level, had to be reversed out !( now can't get to Shakespeare marina till after Christmas! )

I am educated on the bridge with the small gap to be for the rope so the horses didn't have to be undone when there's no path under the bridge. I'm kinda leaning towards this due to the age of the ironwork . I'm not correcting my favorite vlogger, but it's another thing to look into.

Hi guys Cyril the Squirrel 😅
    Eel was it dead ?
    Landrover guy for sure.
    😅
That gap in the bridge originally used for horses towing the boats do they didn't have to untie the horse when going through lock and bridge.
All good history all the same 😅
Modern day no horses so single guy on boat may use it eh 😊
Ok Sue sorry yo hear your ear not good, middle ear avhe and dizzy sounds like you need to stay away from drops like locks ... 😮
    Be careful please.
Anyway have fun in the rain love that tyre I have one too.
I must look see if I have any of the larger blue bouys I can hive to you one day...😅😅😅😅
Have fun kev the brinklow kayaker

      Hi Kev
When I was told there was a eel in the lock no-one told me dead or alive so I assumed dead. 30 seconds later it was very much dead so I’m still not sure what was what but an alive eel isn’t easy to see…🤔
Thanks on the inflatable Kev 👍👍

@NarrowEscape1 yer a dead eel is a lot less active compared to a live one.
Can't make a mistake on that one.
Caught eel fishing in Offchurch canal close to the blue lias pub.....
      Orrible slimy wrighly things....
How is Sue feeling better I do hope.

    • @NarrowEscape1
      @NarrowEscape1  Před 7 měsíci

I’m not entirely sure myself Ian but I think the “One Ten” only became a 110 when they switched to being Defenders. I think when they were “Series” cars instead the wheelbases were slightly shorter, in the 110s case a ‘One Oh Nine’.
Key word I “think” that’s the case 🤣
