What a life Brian must have. So sad that he is the only known narrow boat blacksmith on the British canals or maybe I misheard.
You may already know this, but blacksmiths work in the dark so they can observe the colour of the metal as it heats up or cools down. Amazing trade to watch at work.

Hello from Kansas! Glad to see you guys out and about! My brother does blacksmithing on the side and at the local tractor shows. I've dabbled with it making items I needed. I build most things instead of buying. My main claim to fame were "Reindeer shoes". They were miniature horse shoes for Christmas, looking like one of Santa's reindeer had "thrown" a shoe.(even though reindeer have cloven hooves) My brother made one out of brass and then polished that one to a high gloss as a "new" shoe and my mom made a little red pull string purse to keep it in and added some glitter dust as some of the magic that makes the shoe so the reindeer can fly. The thrown shoes have lots of hammer marks and just a slight brassy finish indicating they had a lot of "mileage" on them. On Christmas morning a parent would place one around where the kids put out food for the reindeer! They would go over pretty good on Christmas mornings! Thanks!

Being a welder and having a small garage metal workshop. I found this video fascinating. Proper old school craft. I have the tools to bend, scroll & twist steel cold. But the art of hot forge work is beyond me, and i have a great respect for anyone that has the ability to perform this type of work. Great video and a great bloke you interviewed.

I got recognised at the weekend while i was magnet fishing on the Oxford canal by the brinklow marina with family from New Zealand i mentioned the Brinklow landslip blockage and they asked if i were the kayaker from Brinklow.

I was staying overnight in Gnosall last weekend with my girlfriend. We saw several interesting commercial type boats. We had lunch and evening meal in The Boat Inn right next to the canal.
