  • We can’t just stick a Bible on our nightstand or in our pocket and expect to know God better. You need to let his word sink deep in your heart and soul.

WOW I just saw my comment a year ago..I've now memorized 30 chapters ...and I'm changed beyond words. My prayers are heard and answered very quickly, I love people better and my ministry has flourished...sexual sins have left...and lost a lot of weight...His Word is alive, The Word is Spirit John 6:63 and The Spirit brings abundant life. It' s the new wine. Once teh new wine is tasted...you won't go back. There is no substitute to writing God's Word on your heart. It' health to all thy flesh. Pastor Chuck

The importance of memorising scripture is as simple as Jesus deflected temptation by stating... it is written,..... if we don’t have it memorised how do we deflect temptation?

Psalm 1 verse 2 - 3 : But his delight [is] in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

I grew up memorizing verses through Awana for 13yrs, finished with my Sparks plaque and Citation. I started college and with no workbook to spur me on I set aside memorization for 6yrs. I have come to the realization that I need to begin memorizing again.

Thank you for all the great videos! The nearest place I can think of God asking us to memorize his word comes from Deuteronomy 11:18 -19
18"You shall therefore impress these words of mine on your heart and on your soul; and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. 19"You shall teach them to your sons, talking of them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road and when you lie down and when you rise up.

Technitronics limited that's understandable but it's not because you memorize the word but because you meditate on what it says. Then we're able to teach the word, and pass it down generationally speaking. There's nothing wrong with knowing the word and being able to recall it by memory. . But that's not what saves us but out minds being changed by meditating of God's word and holy spirit teaching us.

By the grace of God I've been able to memorize almost 6 epistles now. I want to point out that it has been extremely beneficial in my life. And anybody can do that. If it sounded like I was bragging, then it's based on nothing, because we've all got brains so anybody can do it. and if you just memorize 2 verses a day, you can memorize over 730 verses a year, which would equal James, Ephesians, Philippians, Galatians, Colossians, 1 Peter and Jude. But even if you could only memorize one verse a day, you would still have memorized more than you have now.

James wasn't canon in the early church. It is a likely forgery written after the apostles wrote to corrupt the Gospel of Paul. James is the only book of the new testament that contradicts Jesus and Paul in several places. There is no gospel in james, only an antigospel. No one is in heaven because of James, bit millions/billions are in hell because of James. If you memorized Romans instead of James you would be eternally blessed and likely have less doubt. James is a satanic poison that was put into the corrupt catholic canon.

You just have to believe in Christ. Memory is a fruit of the spirit. Don't condemn yourself through your own works. Let it flow from grace upon you.

Yes i just got done memorizing my 20th chapter..John Piper is correct..I always thought I was a good Christian compared to other Christians..BUT after memorizing scriptures...I can see where I had been double minded..In order to memorize you have to constantly review it often each day or you will forget it..so you are mediating it all the time..Psalm 1 and John 14:23 God and Jesus will abide i you and SET YOU FREE john 8:31 John 6:63 "My Word is Spirit "

  • @rezamohamadakhavan_abdolla8627

Dear pastor: Yes the Bible actually talks about memorizing Bible verses ( saving them in our hearts).
    Psalms 119:9-11 KJV
"Wherewithal shall a young man cleans his way?
By taking heed thereto according to Thy word.
With my whole heart have I sought Thee: O let me not wander from Thy commandments. THY WORD HAVE I HID IN MINE HEART, THAT I MIGHT NOT SIN AGAINST THEE."

One substitute is communing with the Spirit of God who lives in you... like talking with him in real-time like he promised... like he intended in the first place.........
I don't know about you but God works with me directly, not "Through the word" the Bible is a fun date I often have with Jesus, but he is alive and with me, i go to him before the word or any person.

Nothing in the Bible says you have to memorize the Bible. I guess that this is a good thing. Since for about the first 1800 years after Christ was born...most of the Christian world couldn't read. I realized that a few years ago. Most of the world couldn't read well into the 1800's. So how did the church survive? How did they thrive? How was it possible for the church to grow? And especially before the printing press. There wasn't hardly anything TO read. It was too expensive to produce. Lack of reading material in existence made learning to read both difficult and deemed not worth the significant effort to go through the whole process. Yet the church grew. Very strange to me.

You don’t have to read the Bible to memorize it. A lot of people have a lot of song lyrics memorized without ever seeing the words in print.

To be fair the bible and its events were given in an oral tradition, also written ofc. You don't have to know how to read to memorize scripture. The people during the times of the bible heard from the mouth of the prophets and inspired vessels of the holy spirit.

    Brother John,
it is not because it doesn't say "memorize the scriptures" that it never said "memorize the scriptures"
wasn't it said that we should keep the commandments? you wouldn't keep something you can't remember, right?
JC also told many teachers of the law "have you not read...". They probably did, many times even?
Paul's life was about studying the scriptures, no? He nonetheless did not have the revelation of it
we should keep on reading and meditating and memorizing as much as we can, sure.
but if I remember, the Helper is the One who reminds us, no?
    Peace!
