"You shall therefore lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
Deuteronomy 11:18 ESV
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
Joshua 1:8 ESV
@@salvationbygracethroughfaith What are you accusing them of?
@@salvationbygracethroughfaith of course they believe the Gospel. To say otherwise is crazy talk. Now the once saved always saved doctrine is completely Biblical. It's not heresy. And I'm not a calvinist but there are definitely verses in the Bible that supports it just like how there are verses that support Arminianism. We shouldn't be divided over a minor non salvific doctrine (calvinism). And everyone who does not put their faith in Christ will end up in hell sadly for their sin. Its basic Biblical doctrine.
@@salvationbygracethroughfaith With all do respect you're just completely wrong. And what makes you think you're saved if you have strong hatred in your heart towards someone?
@@salvationbygracethroughfaith You clearly didnt read the Bible. Repent of your pride. I pray you get saved. God bless.
âThe only offensive weapon in Ephesians 6 is the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God.â So good!! We are called to FIGHT back, and an amazing way to do that is through memorizing scriptuređđŒ
Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path
Study to find yourself approved. And meditate on His word day and night. How can you meditate on something you don't know?
This is an amazing topic to cover and am thankful that Tim spoke on it. Over the course of the last 7 years that I've been saved I've remembered over 70 verses by heart and one of the most frustrating things about memorization is forgetting verses you remembered earlier in your walk, so I can definitely relate to what Tim said about forgetting verses as he get's older lol..
What bible translation do you normally read and study from?
My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Proverbs 3:1â-âŹ6
To be rooted, is not possible if you're in shallow ground. So, if we read and forget, we have no foundation, but are only 1/4 in deep. When it says a tree planted by living Waters, the word planted and meditate, neither are possible if you don't know the words that plant you, if you only know of them, it's like having dirt sprinkled over you, never taking root and being tossed to and from as the wind blows.
May God's Spirit continually and mightly use you for His Glory.
I listen to your sermons, and my Soul is always blessed.
Thanks to God for You.
I have 215 Bible verses memorized
That's awesome! How many do you know now?
I prefer the way the KJV sounds when I recite it. The only concern I have is if Im witnessing to someone and quote KJV scripture, I would hate for them to not comprehend what I quoting.
How about this one for memorization:
Deu 11:18-21 KJV Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes. (19) And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. (20) And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates: (21) That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth.
Psa 119:15 KJV I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.
Jos 1:8 KJV This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
Wow, this was so helpful. I've watched a number of videos about memorizing scripture, but it's all basically about the best ways to do it. But this... the verses that the people in the room quoted about memorizing scripture and the advice about being strategic is so important. And also.. choosing a translation that will last for decades.
I go to school now and they don't allow us to take the bible with us. I feel the necessity to read or soak up some scripture and since I don't have many verses memorised, I get sad sometimes. I really feel the necessity to memorize scripture.
That's so sad. You could copy some scriptures in your own handwriting or simply smuggle a small bible in with you. No one is entitled to take this Word away from you.
The statement, âif end up in prison and didnât have a Bible, I would have what Iâd memorized.â I have thought that exactly same thought, many times.
Donât we have something even greater? Namely, The Spirit of the living God inside us? How do we think believers lived in the days when most were illiterate and in the centuries when the scriptures were not printed and widely available? Just a thought. Think of the movie âCast Awayâ - if that was you or me, would we not have the presence of the one who promised to ânever leaveâ and ânever forsakeâ us even if we had no Bible to go to?
I love this. Thanks!
Very important message
I have come back to this video time and time again. It has been very encouraging and profitable to me. 14:39 By Godâs grace, I donât have to imagine anymoređ
Amen
I'm going to memorize Colossians
I'm learning that too! Specifically 1:15-20 is one of my favourite parts!
I think something that needs to be remembered by us all is that we could have the whole Bible memorized cover to cover and not know Christ at all. I'm sure the Devil has memorized much of the Scriptures in his time.
Without in any way disagreeing with Pastor Tim, I find that for me, the best way to memorize the Scriptures is to cultivate a genuine love for every word I read. It seems that when we enjoy something we are able to memorize it more easily. Also reading slowly, more often and more thoughtfully are great helps. Also remembering that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of remembrance; without Him we can do nothing.
When I repented about three years ago when i was 27, because I was lukewarm christain I've played games, watched movies, sports etc... That worldly junk kept me away from bible, praying and fervent life to serve the Lord. Well it's a long story but the point is after repenting Holy Spirit started telling in my heart to leave all of that and find my bible, once we moved it was in garage somewhere. So I started reading it and than started memorizing verses, after memorizing chapters, psalms and it was truly a blessing to simply memorize God's word.
I'm not saying who ever memorizes word of God will be automatically truth Christian , but it's helpful. If we think about if students who want to get good job they study and memorize for hours, and that's only for this earthly life. Why wouldn't we Christians study and memorize that is heavenly?
@@ok__6441 Sorry if I didn't explain that well but I'm not saying memorizing Scripture is a bad thing. I have memorized passages in the past and fully intend to do so again. But memorizing in this way is not my main goal. My main goal when I am reading the Bible is to understand what I'm reading and to let it sanctify me. When I'm reading in this way I find I memorize Scripture without actually trying to memorize it. When I have been memorizing Scriptures in the past there have been times when it has only been an intellectual exercise. I have them in my head but not in my heart.
I would definately recommend memorizing a book or a passage of Scripture and sticking with it for a period of time to meditate upon it and really get to understand it.
@@Mark_68574
Well for me memorizing is one way to meditate because I repeat over and over. I usually divide chapter in small passages of like 5 verses or 7 if it's small verses like in psalms. But the point is I try to memorize what I lack most.
@@ok__6441 Yeah I agree with you, it is a good way to meditate upon the Scriptures when it is used for that purpose. Thanks for taking the time to speak with me. God bless
The word of God gives life ,enriches, and nourishes the whole body
We become free completely, brings peace joy , becomes like jesus
Brings closer to god
A so-called pastor of a church we were members of told me not to memorize scripture because he is the pastor and we must count on him. He even preached about how fortunate we were to have him as our leader. People stopped attending one by one until only about three were left. One of them hung himself and shortly after his funeral the "pastor" moved on to another country to spread his gossip.
Sound worse then the Pope
I've become an intellectual, and I have become convinced of the need for difficulty in our culture. Until now I didn't notice that this coincides with the largest interrupted passage I've memorized:
"James, a servant of God and of the Lord, Jesus Christ.
To the twelve tribes, scattered among the nations.
Greetings.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, when you face trials of many kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance, and perseverance must finish its work so you may become full and complete, not lacking anything.
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask it of God, and it will be given to him. But when he asks he must believe, and not doubt, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. He is a double minded man, unstable in all he does. Such a man should not expect to receive anything from God.
The brother among you in humble circumstances should take pride in his high position, and the rich brother should take pride in his low position, for he will pass away like a wildflower. The sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant, its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. So too will the rich man pass away, even as he goes about his business.
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life which God has promised to those who love him."
I think its time I pick up my memorization of James again.
@Michael Harder praise God
Surreal! 0:46
they say if you recite something from memory (e.g. a verse) every day for (I think it is) a month (?) you will have it for life.
Psalms 1
He said it at the 6:40 area, I hadn't made it that far in my first comment.
What is the name of the pastor please? Tim what?
Tim Conway
Memorize the whole bible and read it to yourself while at work in your mind. Study the bible in your mind.
