  • How To Practically MEMORIZE The BIBLE
Jesus quoted verbatim the Old Testament over 60 times in the New Testament. Additionally, there are over 100 other references to Jesus alluding to specific Old Testament scriptures in the Gospels.
When personally tempted by the devil, Jesus quoted the Old Testament to defeat the devil's schemes against him. (Matthew 4: 1-11)
When you memorize scripture, you’re putting God’s word into your heart while also developing your memory deeper.

This is my schedule for reading the Bible.
My family and I read ten chapters before school of the NT.
We read ten chapters of the OT before bed.
This schedule averages out to reading the OT twice a year and 14 times a year for the NT.
And I have like 20 different translations of the Bible and I read one chapter (the same chapter) in every Bible each day. Like today I’ll be reading Mark 6 in every Bible I have.
And I take tons of notes while reading. So I can always find the verse that I need to share the truth of God’s word.
I hope this inspires and helps
      God bless your efforts
Our Heavenly Father is the only God, as was taught by God, Jesus and the apostles.
“You are My witnesses,” says YHWH “And My servant whom I have chosen, That you may know and believe Me, And understand that I am He. Before me there was no God formed, Nor shall there be after Me.” - God/YHWH at Isaiah 43:10
“I am YHWH, and there is no other; There is no God besides Me.” - God/YHWH at Isaiah 45:5
“Have we not all one Father? Has not one God created us?” - Malachi 2:10
“How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God” - Jesus at John 5:44
Jesus answered “If I honor Myself, My honor is nothing. It is My Father that honors Me, of whom you say He is our God.” - Jesus at John 8:54
“Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as a You have given Him. And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You sent.” - Jesus at John 17:1-3
“Yet for us there is only one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live.” -
      1 Corinthians 8:6
“One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” - Ephesians 4:6
“And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” - Philippians 2:11
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.” - 1 Timothy 2:3-5

You have not hid God's Word in your heart, since the English is not the words of God and do not represent them accurately enough to be considered a translation.

    • @TheRootedWord
      @TheRootedWord Před rokem +1

For example, in the Old Testament Jesus and the Apostles used, it says, "In my heart I have concealed Your words in order that I might not sin to You!" (precise translation taking care for each word and all grammatical construction to be retained).
If you go to Bible Hub for this verse you will see that every translation except 2 are wrong on the most significant word in the text: "words".
Douay-Rheims Bible and the NET Bible got the plurality correct. The reason is that their original language source for this verse was the Septuagint (LXX) Old Testament, which Jesus and the Apostles used.
Why is it important? The Word of God is Jesus. The words of God are God's Testimony, whether written or spoken. If you call the Bible "The Word of God" you commit idolatry, according to John 1. It is the reason that chapter was written, to protect the Church against idolatry of the written words.
So you are using it correctly, but by using "Thy word" ("the Word of God"), you set yourself up to reject the truth regarding the idolatry of the Bible vs worshiping Jesus as God (John 1.1).

Hello, I am at psalm 147 now. At first I memorized one psalm at a time, and when I had learned one and started a new one I forgot the previous. This way it took me 6 months to learn 20 psalms. Even if you forget it is not a problem. The next time it is easier to learn them again. Then I decided to learn about 10 verses a time, this speeded up the process. I register them on my phone and listen while I do the dishes, laundry etc. This way the memorization gets easier. You can facilitate the process also by putting different emphasis on the words. Read with different dialects. Count the words in a sentence or phrase. Look up the word in a dictionary, write your own bible dictionary. And the most important thing with this process is the inner spiritual progress that comes with the learning progress. Psalm 77 was the hardest so far because it is dark if you manage through it you have come a long way. 119 was also hard. I needed all the repetitions saying I love G-d's law, otherwise I would not have managed to say it. It is amazing how G-d spoke to me through the verses. I needed the verses for the specific day and stage I was at. Really supernatural. I would recommend learning the psalms in a progressive order therefore. G-d be with you in the memorization process! /Karin PS: The psalms are divided into 5 books, each one corresponding to the 5 books of Mose's (the first five books in the Bible). The first book of Psalms corresponding to Genesis etc. This is also interesting to study. As well as interconnections between books in the New Testament and the psalms.

Something I used to do daily about 20 years ago was create screensaver images with Bible verses on my computer. Whenever an image from the screensaver would flash on my screen, I could immediately recall the verse I put with that image, having typed it out and spending the time positioning and editing the verse and image together in a creative way. Before long, I could quote all of the verses on that screensaver, never forgetting old ones as I worked on new ones, because the screensaver kept bringing each one I had finished back to mind.
Some time after that, I tried memorizing a short book (Philippians, then James, then Colossians, then Ephesians). I read the book from start to finish every night for a month. Afterwards, I made my own outline of the book, then every night for a month look at the outline and try to quote as much of the book from start to finish as I could without skipping anything. At a point I was stuck on, I would read the book from start to finish, then try quoting it again with the goal of making it a bit further than before. I could quote the entire book before the month was up, and jump in at any verse. If you mentioned a verse from the book, I could quote the verses that came before it and after it. I then started doing it for Romans and John, but discovered I was starting to forget verses from the previous books I had done and thought maybe I was reaching my limit on how much I could have memorized at once (but more likely it was because I stopped trying to recall the other books for too long as I focused memorizing new ones). Once you memorize it, go back to it every so often so you don't have to dig too deep for it.

Christ when tempted by the devil used Scripture to defeat him. so yeah without having Scripture in your head and soul by reading it, studying it and memorizing it... you won't have it when you need guidance.

I have found memorizing during a repetitive activity helps me immensely. I write my verses on 1/2 of an index card b/c that fits perfectly into my hand. I take them with me on a run and start repeating the phrases. There is something about repeating the phrases and repeating steps that helps my brain retain the verses. This is also easier for me to do than memorizing while I am sitting down. So if you are an active person, try memorizing while you are on a walk or a run. I also find it helpful to memorize more than one verse in a passage. Memorizing chapters or large parts of chapters has made it so much easier to retain--one verse just leads into another. BTW, I am 72 years old so I am probably not at my memorizing peak; so please do not use I CAN NOT MEMORIZE as an excuse. As most anything else, keep working at it and it will get easier.

Over the past three years I've moved past verses and started memorizing large chunks of scripture. So far I've memorized about 14 full chapters, 3 large chunks and dozens of verses. It gets harder to retain all that, so you have to have a plan. Here's what I do, and have been doing off and on for over 20 years:
    1. Write or print your verses or chapters on index cards or paper you can easily fold into about the size of an index card
    2. Get an index card organizer and index card tabs
    3. Make Daily, Wekkly and Monthly tabs: Write "Daily" on one tab; on seven tabs, write the days of the week, Sunday through Saturday; then take 31 tabs and number them 1 to 31.
    4. Place the verses you're working on in the daily tab. Verses that you've memorized, place in one of the weekly tabs; Verses that you really know place in one of the numbered tabs;
    5. Everyday pull out all the verses in the daily tab, the weekly tab corresponding to the current day, and the monthly tab corresponding to the current day of the month. For example, today is February 15, so I would take the verses in the Daily tab, the tab for Wednesday, and the tab for 15.
    6. Do the monthly first, then the weekly then the daily
I found that setting a designated time for reviewing older verses prevented them from slipping away. You can always review them anywhere--on a walk or a long drive, for example--but this way you're guaranteed to get to everything at least once a month.

Loved your teaching on memorizing the Bible. As a long time study of the dramatic arts, I have become used to memorizing large portions of Scripture. I have done dramatic presentations of The Sermon On The Mount, and II Tim. Over 100 times each. I don't pay as much attention to the address of each verse, but I can locate the exact chapter and verse in a minute. I will say that almost every time I present the Bible in this way, I will shut out the audience and Holy Spirit will teach me a new truth.

I think a key aspect of memorizing scripture is for it to be relatable and practical in your daily life. It's much easier to memorize something that is meaningful and helpful to you, instead of paragraphs of text that you can't relate with.
To that end, I always suggest that people find Jesus in the scriptures they are reading (He's always there, even in the Old Covenant writings) and seeing Jesus makes a huge difference, bringing the scripture to life. 😎🙏

      Jesus is The Word.
He is The Word God spoke from upon the Mount.
He is The Word God Wrote with His own finger.
He is The Word God made flesh, we know as Jesus.
In Him, The Word is the love, the spirit, the covenant, the blessings, our hope and our everything. That is why we are instructed to "put Him on", to "keep" The Commandments. To allow His spirit to go before us.
Jesus is the Law that hung on the cross, He is the Law that is written upon our heart.
If you are looking for a Word from God, trying obeying His instructions in Deut.6:8-9, allow Him to teach, preserve, protect and lead you and yours.
If you wish to have the Testimony of Jesus then "keep" also the Sermon on the Mount, or if you love Him keep His words and dwell also in the love of Jesus.
Protect you and yours from those who are coming to steal, kill and destroy. Dwell in the Law and Testimony as instructed in Deut 6:8-9. Cling to them. Dwell in the love of The Father and Son, allowing the Spirit lead and guide you and yours in love. Do not let the world overtake you.
For those who are troubled, know that you can put the Spirit of God into their life, home etc. by obeying Deut.6:8-9. Even if they don't wear it as God instructs one can bind and place that Spirit into any gift. To spread the Spirit, you help not only them but the those in the home, community, and country.
They have striped the Ten Commandments from most public property, schools, court houses etc.. We can not let them remove God from our homes or country. May His Spirit be spread across us all.

One way that I have used the Bible Memory app: I record passage of several verses in my own voice and play it back--it plays repeatedly until you stop it. I have a 20 minute route that I drive frequently. If I set the passage to play when I start, it plays til I reach my destination. As an older person, these sessions are only the beginning of my process of memorizing. I also record slowly, with pauses between phrases, so that as I listen, I try to recite the next phrase before the recording. After listing thousands of times, I begin to feel that I've learned it. Even if I never actually learn the passage, I think it's still important to be working on memorizing. It makes me very frustrated that so few people around me are interested in memorizing scripture.

A.I memorize the verses that are related to my gift or what the Holy Ghost is speaking to me about. That gets me excited.
    B. I read through and anywhere Holy Ghost cause me to stick on, I start to memorize it.
    C. I look out for literary devices like alliterations:she sells sea shell….seashore. Deliverance from dominion of darkness into the kingdom of his son. Collosians

As a child/young adult memorizing scripture was mandatory! Had to do it for Sunday school. As an adult, God’s word never left me. I’m glad I was made to memorize God’s word!

You mean man's word. Even if it was originally dictated and written down flawlessly (from this actual Jeebus character), there are no original manuscripts, so every bible you pick up is just a translation or a copy or most likely both, and NOT the word of God, but a handwritten copy by a flawed being....remember?

It would be sooo much better for you if you memorised just a few of the principles that Charles Darwin played out - perhaps remember what Natural Selection meant....vastly better than the meaningless nonsense in a book that contradicts itself repeatedly......

So glad this video was recommended! One system I used to rely on for memorizing entire chapters at a time was this:
    1. Read the address ("John3 verse1") and the verse. Do this 10 times.
    2. Then recite the address and the verse 10 times from memory.
    That's it, you're done.
Then day 2, recite yesterdays verse, John 3:1, 10 times from memory, then repeat the instructions for today's verse, John 3:2. And so on. This has helped me memorize several chapters at a time.
Some tips are to read slowly and let your eyes land on each word. I also like to walk as I am reciting, I find that helps me. You can walk around the house or outside and get some fresh air and exercise at the same time.

I love memorizing bible verses! (although it is not easy but so edifying and satisfying!) I don't use any tools, I like to do it by chapter to keep the context. I do one verse a day and add another verse to it the next day and so on until I memorized the whole chapter. Continuously repeating the verse throughout the day whenever I have the opportunity. So far I've memorized Ps 1, Ps 23, Ps 24, Ps 91, Jam 1, Jam 2, still a long way to go. Would love to complete all the chapters in James then move on to another book. Any recommendation which book? 😃
