Check out Queen’s performance at Live Aid, 1985. It’s ‘only’ a 20 minute set and it will give you a good sampling of the range of Queen’s songs (which is huge). But their Live Aid performance is considered by many to be historic for how good it is, so it’s as good a place as any for your next step in the Queen journey. Enjoy! And thanks for your reaction to BoRhap!!

It isn't your fault that this song is what, at least twice as old as you are?
The fact that you have found it now, and the original music video (it was too long for most radio play and had too many layers over-dubbed to make a full live performance possible, so they made this video to go with it). is enough. Of course, being ancient and British, I know it well and remember it being released, and the trouble it had getting radio play.
But it was undoubtedly one of Freddies masterpieces - maybe the earliest of his songs to really achieve that status.
All that from just four guys. but every one a genius.

It is now November 7, 2021 and 10 minutes ago all the clocks just stepped back an hour to 1AM. I have been trying to go to bed for the last 2 hours but have been totally caught up watching all the young folks of all races and nationalities watching Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody video for the first time. I've commented on many of them but I want to interject something different here....Dasha's reaction to this fabulous song is absolutely priceless and it made me realize that music is truly a pathway to international peace and communication. As of this moment there are more than 1,500 thumbs up to her video. Though there are a total of 11 thumbs down there will always be a few Neanderthals walking the earth but we can just pat them on the head and offer assisted living. As a white guy from the 60's I am heartened by the reactions of all the rappers, boy banders, Kpopers and others thus far isolated from Rock & Roll to Queen and this song. Again, we all love music. What if all the countries on earth elected a musician to lead their country? And then instead of several World Summit conferences a year the new leaders could all meet once a year for a Live Aids type concert.

I'm seconding the motion that you see/hear the largest, most exuberantly enthusiastic (frenzied, actually) crowd of Russians watching/listening to Metallica performing "Enter Sandman" at an enormous outdoor venue outside of Moscow in '91. They had come from all around the country to celebrate the demise of the brutally tyrannical rule of the Soviet Union by experiencing something (a rock concert) that had been denied them for their entire lives. No wonder they were "besides themselves".

It really is something of an opera piece with so many overlapping styles. The amazing video was made years before most musicians made videos of their music, and had a great influence on the start of MTV.
The beautiful lead vocals and piano that you loved so much is the work of the man who wrote Bohemian Rhapsody, Freddy Mercury. With the band Queen, Freddy Mercury recorded many wonderful songs, and you should look for them. He was an amazing presence on stage when performing live. He mastered so many styles of music. Sadly, he died, from AIDS, just 16 years after this song was released, but his music is still influencing today's artists.

One of my favorite things about this song is the guitar solo. Brian May is not a guitar player. He is a singer who sings through his guitar. He intentionally plays his guitar to get the same expression as a human voice, and he absolutely nails it in this song!
The guitar settings he is using are what he affectionately calls the “screamy settings”, because it sounds like a human voice crying or screaming out in despair. It’s a sound unique only to his guitar, which was custom built by him and his father when he was a teenager.
In recent years, he was generous enough to manufacture and sell more or less exact copies of this guitar, so now fans can purchase them and imitate his iconic sounds with almost exact precision.

She has a voice that is not like any other voice I have ever heard. And I have been listening to music since the 1960's. Her voice is described as a polyphone contralto. This is a young lady with a very deep voice. She also sings in at least six languages. She recently did her version of the Elvis Presley song called Can't Help Falling In Love. "Tom Sawyer", "Spirit of the Radio", "Red Barchetta" and "Limelight" are good places to start. And THEN.... you can get blown away by the drum solo done by Neil Peart (pronounced "peert") called "Der Trommler" recorded in Frankfurt, Germany for the "R30" DVD. Not for nothing was he called "The Professor" and rated as possibly the best drummer ever. May he rest in peace.

Love INNUENDO too. That is a song that also gets better with age, especially these days.

That's what I like about rock music during the seventies. A lot of songs were 6,7, 8 minutes long.

To get that cool vocal sound theybrecorded as many as 180 separate vocal tracks overdubs. It's a marvel or technology at that time.
