    The first time I watched Stand By Me was on cable tv back in the day with my dad. I really identified with the boys in it as I was around the same age. Then I watched it as an adult and it's like watching a different movie. My dad passed away. The old friends I used to hang around all drifted apart. One thing sticks with me, it's a story about young kids looking to understand death, and in the process learn about life.

    Stand by Me it's one of those movies which I can't really remember the first time I saw it. It was the dawn of the VHS era in my household and I remember my parents loving it and watching it a lot. It made them nostalgic and my mother loved Stephen King books as well.
    I can remember not really understanding it and my favorite part being the Lard Ass story.
    I Wouldn't really appreciate it until I got older. When the DVD came out full of bonus material I really gained an appreciation for the producton and Rob Reiner himself. What an awesome film to grow up with!
    It is strange to think back to your choldhood gang and how much you loved your friends and just thought it would last forever. Forever is a long long time and those friendships faded pretty fast. Just like life goes so fast the older you get.

    Prewatch:
    Sweet! I’m a huge King fan. This is easily top 1-2 adaptations and easily top 5 best movies of his.
    I cannot think of a better closing line to a movie/story.

    Fantastic video, dudes! Think I initially caught it on TV growing up after seeing Goonies, and it still hits in my 30s. One of my favorite soundtracks, too.

    Perfect way to close out a very Corey Christmas! Just watched this flick yesterday for Christmas hah. Always find myself quoting stuff from this movie especially their song “a knight without armor in a savage land” this was my intro flick to the Feldman which I will always be grateful for. Can’t wait to see what 24 brings staunch tv!! On a end note i always loved how the vhs tape made teddys ear look so gross from his old man, in the remastered stuff it’s quite funny now to look at

    In defense of Will Wheaton, not sure why the guy feels he’s not a good person. I listened to some of his autobiography and he’s a self proclaimed nerd but he seems like a decent guy. But anyway, yeah, I think there’s a lot of tragic elements in the movie like Gordy losing his brother and the impact on his family. Chris and Teddy come from insane families. The fact that Chris’s older brother in the rival gang doesn’t seem to care when Ace puts the cigarette to Chris’s eye is concerning. That’s one crappy brother. I guess you could say that the character of Gordy is the only one who survives because of his talent for writing. But it’s all the more sad seeing River Phoenix. That’s pretty heartbreaking right there. He’s been gone 30 years. Let that sink in…

    What does VCV mean? I had VHS & BETA tapes, Laserdisc, and DVDs, but never heard of VCV. Is that like the giant 8-track looking laserdiscs before laserdiscs ?

    • @STAUNCHTV
      @STAUNCHTV  Před 7 měsíci +1

      VCD, they were like pre laserdisc discs almost, giant thin cartridges

    • @maybeitsneato

      This confused me as well. I think he means CED. Which was kind of like movies on a weird vinyl record. A direct competitor with the Laser Disc. They came in a large plastic case and the player removed the disc so you never had to touch it. They never really caught on, my older brother had collected them in the late 90s when they were a dead format.
      A VCD is just a normal compact disc with a highly compressed movie on it. A cheaper alternative to DVDs that were mostly popular in Asia. It usually took several discs to hold a movie.
