    80s coming of age movies just had a different feel to them. No cgi, on locations rather than just on a sound stage, narrations, just magical.

    In spite of how tough they are supposed to be, boys, especially at that age are very fragile. I love this movie, because it emphasizes that fact; and also, that as time passes, the worlds in which we were raised slowly fade into memory. Beautiful evocation of emotion without excess. Plus that score. Perfect.

      Turned out along with Corey Feldman, Will Wheaton was wrestling with his own demons at the time. He revealed in recent years that he was sort of forced into acting by his parents and and suffered emotional abuse by his parents . He did love his time on the set of SBM though for the most part. But the stardom it brought him made the emotional abuse worse. A movie he did shortly after SBM called The Curse was a horrible experience according to him. He has been estranged from his parents for years as I understand it.

    • @ZetaReticuli_
      @ZetaReticuli_ Před rokem +7

      @@adamn7516 It does suck knowing what some of these child actors were put through to make movies that brought us so much enjoyment.
      I loved Will Wheaton's character in this. I felt so awful for in that one emotional scene at the end by the campfire.
      Death is tragic, and it is sad enough when an adult wishes they were dead. But your heart really breaks when you hear a kid say it.
      You kind of have to wonder, if you are familiar with "method acting" how much of their real demons were be channeled in some of these scenes.

    My friends and I had a treehouse in the early 80s, lots of kids did. There was a forest behind our townhome complex in a small town in Manitoba, there were a couple dozen treehouses in various states scattered around. Kids don't build treehouses anymore, to busy building them in Fortnight and Minecraft. They go through a lot of trouble to build things in games and can't even enjoy them for real, kinda feel bad for kids today who'll grow up never having the pleasure of building their own treehouse or even going outdoors for an hour a day to move their limbs around. Humanity is beginning to atrophy.

Some of these channels have thousands of Patrons sending $5-$100 a month to "help make better videos", production value stays the same but now they're all driving brand new sports cars and buying new homes, going on fancy vacations while the people supporting them are complaining about the price of gas and eggs. Today's kids wouldn't know what to do with themselves if you take their phone or laptop away for an hour, they just go catatonic, a state of shock. When I was a kid we went on adventures just like this, usually we rode our bikes, took us farther. We'd sneak out at 4am to bike 15 miles to Lockport to go fishing at the dam or out to the pits near the garbage dump, sometimes we'd just dig around the trash heaps for hours, once we found dozens of garbage bags full of adult mags, sold them for $1 each at school until we were caught, get home at dinner and the parental units wouldn't even ask where we were, they just knew. Being a kid in the days before the internet was so freeing.

    I still remember like it was yesterday, I was a young teenager and my mom took me to see Stand By Me at the theater. I fell in love with River and the whole movie. Michael your genuine excitement for the nostalgia of these locations comes through in your videos and make them that much better. I have always loved your lining up the shots & Jessica’s re-enactments. Love love love you guys!! 💚🖤👍

    This video is amazing! Stand By Me is one of my favorite movies and it was so nostalgic to see all the spots. The way you filmed it was beautiful!! Especially the fade in and outs. The shot where they were shooting the gun and you showed them running up the path away from the woman and then they faded out and it went into what it looks like now.....gave me all the feels!! Especially with River no longer being with us. Thank you for this experience.
