Panatta didn’t need to win. He was an italian playboy. Girls, cars, money, popularity ... what more If you lose against number 1 ...you’re a national hero.
Vilas and Borg. Vilas had a thing about playing Borg. Tiriac in an interview said Borg was a problem for Willy, but he should have beaten Borg more then he did. He argued he should have won 1 in 3 matches with Borg. Vilas held his own with Connor’s and McEnroe., not with Borg. Borg said he felt he was a shade quicker then Guillermo and that made a difference. He felt he could m outlast him. Borg a supreme athlete. Vilas a muscled up and extremely fit player. Built like a tank. Borg never won the us open. Vilas never won Wimbledon. 2 icons.
Yeah, Borg was his kryptonite. Vilas was a great player but he rarely even got a set from Borg. I don't believe he did in either of their French finals.
Vilas used a Wilson Jack Kramer Pro Staff, but because his contract expired he had an argentine company named Beliz paint over the original paint (on the shaft it said Master 74, Vilas best win up to that date). The W on the strings is actually two Vs, the logo for Vilalta Vich, the french company that manufactured the gut strings he used.
Thanks for uploading
Oh! This is too good. You are the best at the videos.
Borg and Vilas - two of the coolest tennis players from that era.

Guillermo Vilas aka Al Pacino 😎
@50:22 one of the greatest strokes ever, The Nastase forehand
All tennis matches should be shown predominantly from court level.
P.S. Nice to be congratulated by Ingrid Bergman.

Well, I played with Vilas Head racket during my 80’s.
I purchased it second hand.
And I think it was my best tennis.
Panatta could beat Borg..Not Vilas...
