I lived in Vermont in the 70s and it's a beautiful state with great people but being black there was not easy. I was the only black kid in school and was bullied relentlessly, sometimes even by adults. I had friends who were forbidden to play with me because I was black. My Dad, a business owner nearly lost his drivers license for constantly getting pulled over for minor infractions, like stopping at a stop sign for too long. It wasn't all bad, most people were nice but there were a few who went above and beyond. One day our home was vandalized, someone spray painted the n-word and other obscenities on the property. The next weekend some nice strangers from the community showed up to help clean. They became friends and invited us to cook outs, ice fishing, and parties. But there was one woman named Sandy I'll never forget, one day she got the bus and chewed out the bus driver and everyone on the school bus for picking on me, it was epic. We eventually moved out of state to one of the whitest city in the US at the time, Thousand Oaks California.
That's terrible, I'm so sorry to hear that. I hate this kind of shit. If I were black I would have lost my shit on these people when I was in my teens and ended up dead.

@Mail Order Service OMG! This is real. Of course it is. They're in Killen, AL.
@Greene Leeves I was waiting for it too.
There is some pretty deep ideas in this sketch. I grew up in Vermont and yea, there were almost no ethnic minorities there (so of course we had to bully based on money, or looks). The question this skit raises is, are people racists if there is no one to be racist against? Abraham Lincoln thought that sending the black population back to Africa would solve racism. I grew up in the 80s, when racism was actively fought in all media. Every television show had episodes about how racism was bad and wrong, and not having any ethnic minorities around I always felt that it was ancient history, that the issue was solved before I was born. My family was originally from Detroit, and we moved back there when I was in highschool. But my family (having quite a few mixed couples) kept racism out of view. I moved to Mississippi for college. I was shocked to find that racism wasn't just an expletive someone used when they couldn't think of a better swear word. I was shocked to find deep ingrained racist beliefs in people. So I had to ask myself, where the places I grew up not racist, or was there never an opportunity for people to express their racism.
then it's not a question lol. Your whole story just explained every step of it
if you've never read Little Fires Everywhere, I highly recommend it. It examines that colorblind, post-racist mentality
If no one is being racist 1) why would you care what they thought.
2) if they're not being racist they probably aren't.
Of course, the left now, will dig until there's something they can point to.
Honestly I'm having to ask similar questions because even in the environments I'm in I'm finding mostly just facsimiles of racism. It's racism on the surface but almost only in the context of it being funny to be edgy. Hell my step grandfather is white and Alabama-born. The area my grandparents are in is rural and white. We had an Asian and black kid in school. I wasn't even the only Hispanic among the students in my school. And this was elementary school. Not to mention my grandmother was one of the teachers and one of the teachers was a black woman. This didn't seem to have really any racism in it. I couldn't see it. Hell to me, I didn't even understand any sort of racial identity until much later in life because to me I was just tan. So to me I'm fascinated by this concept since I've never experienced it and I've only ever really heard of it. I had a friend from Alabama and from where he was it sounded like everyone hates each other so the two races are just incredibly racist because they've had centuries of hatred. And i really wouldn't know any other situation where to find it. Like it genuinely was just very far away from me in almost all circumstances so I do struggle to find where it could be currently.
A musician living around Chapel Hill, NC in the late 1970s, early 80s wrote and performed a song called(excuse the title), "Everyone Has a Nigger". It explored the reality that it is human nature to want someone beneath us, a historical reality. Sadly, blacks have been joined by Asians, immigrants, white boys that don't hunt and love Trump, etc. here in the rural South.
The black football players on fantasy football joke was underrated

"...leaves change colors but the people never do."
Even as a Black person...I found that funny.
"Black" and "WHITE" are social status codes... See your "Law Dictionary" for deffinitions... the older the edition - the closer to the truth! Also see "Black Code of, 1864, " the foundation of the jim crow laws."
I identify as, 1619, African American... it speaks to from where we were taken from; and to where we were brought to...and when...
Those who we have a very bad habit of referring to as "white" are actually Dutch, who interloped onto, English American soil in, 1625, via the, East Indian Dutch company, along with some, Germans, and Indians from India; then in, 1670, more Germans, arrived to invest in and make noney through the enslavement of other humans... while they were at it they stole the identity of the true, Hebrew People, so that they could lay claim to the wealth of, King Solomon's Mines - in Africa! Not that lie... "the middle east!"
It is not as simple as "Black" and "White" learn about, Aaron Lopez - the father of slavery on, English American soil, and his labor force: the Portuguese. "Black" is fine between family and friends; but beware how you use it in the court of law, when you consent! Just say'n. Stay well!

As a Vermonter the accuracy of this hurts 😂😂 oml “the leaves change colors but the people never do” OOF too real
I've lived in the NEK my whole life - everything they said I kept going "yup - yup - yup"
What's wrong with that? Do white people not deserve to have an area that's they can call their own? Why force diversity and introduce crime and culture clash
That Guy I’m not saying anything about that idc for forced diversity. The reason Vermont is so white is because of how people have “spread” I guess throughout history. It’s just for whatever reason minorities never felt like moving there 🤷🏻♀️ (there are minorities there btw like it isn’t completely white like they’re insinuating, it’s just not as diverse as other places) idk Vermont is a very welcoming state in comparison to others. People aren’t racist there (most of them). I found it accurate and hilarious about the people never changing because they don’t. It doesn’t have to do with racism, it’s just that up there it’s kind of a secluded bubble and “life” like most things that change a person, don’t really happen there ¿ it’s just in my experience there isn’t much room for growth. And in small towns there’s this idea that you are who you are, you don’t change you just do what you’ve always done because everyone around you is insanely judgmental. So I didn’t take it necessarily as a stab like people in Vermont are racist, I took it that way. But idk maybe they were insinuating that. And to your question about “what’s wrong with a place designated just for white people” I mean to each is own I guess but I just find it weird. I wanna live in a place where there’s mostly good people. And being a good person doesn’t depend on your skin color...
@@TobiGirl08 statistically non white immigration brings crime...see Europe and all those countries that are going down the drain. Bring third world people, get third world problems. Trust me I live in a "diverse" area and you dont want it.
That Guy I know, I’m not denying that. I’m just saying that that has more to do with culture and where you grew up/the life you’re used to rather than simply the color of your skin. I’m not disagreeing I’m just being neutral...but idk if I’m being clear lmao

Subawuuuu!!!
Gee I guess I never thought of Subarus as a car brand that has white only appeal but I guess it's pretty accurate. I've been a subie enthusiast for 10 years and have been to hundreds of performance Subaru meets and looking back, I can confirm that I've encountered less than 3 black subie owners. Subaru owners are usually one of three things; young kids that are looking to vape and go fast, environmentally conscious yuppies who can't afford an Audi, or granola eating tree hugging lesbians.

"If you wanna end racism, make fun of it." -Mel Brooks
Yeah that hasn't really worked lol
Small problem: Some people won't get the joke is on the racists and racism but believe racism itself is funny. Today's autistic generation can't understand what Mel Brooks tried to say in "Blazing Saddles". Instead they all go:"See how blacks weren't offended in the past when we made fun of them? Racism is fun in comedies."
Idiots *always* take jokes literally and irony and satire is completely lost on them. That's an angle which comedy has lost these last decades.
You can also see that even though "Blazing Saddles" was a comedy there are parts in it which deal with real racism especially when the new sheriff tries to mingle with the people and has to be "consoled" by the Waco Kid. It wasn't just casually tossed aside as "it's all a joke and nothing is sacred".
In this comedy skit it's clear these racist neo confederates are absolute buffoons and the funny part is that their "paradise" turns out to be a very liberal state up in the north. In Mel Brooks' "Blazing Saddles" however there are many parts being made fun of and a huge degree of anachronism (jazz music played when the sheriff riding to town, toll boots etc) - most of which will fly overhead for today's autistic generation which can't understand context and see humor as something very literal.
@@equestriangirly2296 You must really like Mel Brooks's "Blazing Saddles".

What's different about Boston?
EDIT: Actually, I got it after reading other comments - apparently Bostonians have a reputation for being racist as the Democratic Party. And yes, the Dem Party was pro-segregation during Jim Crow - look it up. The Dems are still racist because if you think about it, they've been breaking up the societies of lower-class minorities by incentivizing single motherhood, which every psychologist will tell you can lead to a life of crime. Look that up too

My parents and I went to Vermont back in 2018. My mom’s Afro-Colombian, which means she’s of African decent. My dad and I are white, so we weren’t getting looks. As we had dinner at this little diner on College Street, my mom was getting sooooo many looks from the locals. I saw a kid look at my mom and then at his mom.

The racism in Boston is not the KKK type racism, it's economic disparity. See the Daily Show's video about it. You won't find any cross burnings in Boston, but you will find a hell of a lot more poor black people than poor white people (especially if you go to places like Dorchester or Mattapan). The racism is much more subtle in Boston than it is in the south, instead of klansmen and MAGA hats, it's the fact that the average wealth (excluding their house and/or car) of a white household in Boston is 200+ grand and the average wealth of a black family is less than 10 dollars, that is the racism in Boston.
Quinn Von Kerman Ok that’s a flat out lie first of all. And second of all just because people who are white have more money than people who are black doesn’t make it racist. If your black go get a job just like I a white person have to go get a job. Then we both make money. And don’t tell me you earn less because that has been a proven lie. And also I’m from the south and black people and white people get along great down here.
