“Up on top of that hill”....hahahahahaha, that’s not even barely a change in elevation! Flat lander!! Great video. Thanks.
Hills are relative lol
Well holy cow, now there’s a smart windshield. Heat lines at bottom and sides where snow collects, melts then freezes. Nice video.
Just a tip for the end of the wing. Get a flex marker like you have on the ends of the plow and mount it at the end of the wing. Then when you are in the seat you can see it out of your passenger window and use it as a guide. Also if you have a spot near the top of front wing post mount a large convex mirror and that will show you the wing from drivers seat. I have run snowplow for over 30 years and have found these things help alot.
Me casually bored on CZcams come past this video going yeah I’ll just watch it turns out to be my home town 😂😂😂 the curve where u started was when I first realized 😂😂
Good call lol
Wonderful SNOW 😢😮
I have a blind spot mirror for the wing, and sometimes the mailbox thief follows me around too.
Thanks for the ride. I run those plows for yrs and loved it. One night back in the 70's during a heavy snow and bitter cold my INT was chuggin low and slow when it sounded like a rifle went of in the cab . I stepped out to find the plow frame had snapped from the load. 16 on 8 off at best did get old.....but it was a blast
I feel your pain Sir. 32 miles with hills bridges and wide open areas. Will be out at 3am for the next round. And it is drifting from the past 5 snowfalls. Be safe out there! And thank you for your service. We dont hear that enough.
Wow I learned something new today cause I never realized that y’all get stuck. Thanks for taking care of the roads. God’s blessings and be safe
its only a 2 wheel drive
Enjoyed that ride along , winter has been good so far for us in central Illinois just a few inches at a time but this weekend its gonna turn nasty cold again . Thanks for sharing
That is the Central Illinois I know and love. Thanks for posting. All the best from Champaign County,
Thanks for the ride along
Thank you Wes and ALL THE ROAD CREWS ALL OVER OUR GREAT COUNTRY God bless you all doing your vital job you are greatly appreciated
Thank you!
great video I enjoy watching snowplowing
Ride ride ride, snow plow too, ride ride ride. LOL Cool video seeing from above and the sides of the plows. Thank you for sharing.
I live in the Adirondacks in upstate ny, and the winter had been amazing first time I’ve seen 45 inches of snow on the ground!!
Thank you going to start plowing for my state this year I got some good advanced pointers from you.
Very helpful
That's a pretty dog. I miss my black lab.
Love your positive attitude
*looks at the dog* Will you chill?! ... That made me laugh quite a bit harder than it should've.
She was getting a little unruly
Sevalecan same
As a Canadian, glad you feel our pain.
Don't know why but i think this kind of videos are super relaxing
great vid , wow you did get snow there , best wishes for when the new born arrives
I’ve been waiting for this!!
Congratulations on the new baby and March is very good month. And a so I enjoy your videos and a retired farmer.
Thanks!
For seeing your wing better how about a spot mirror mounted off your passenger side light aimed at your wing. And a plow marker near the end of the wing.
I would love see more of that kind
Plow truckers been working overtime all across the nation the past week or so Bless them, i was stranded in 13 inches for wet snow for three days cus i live on top a steep hill. Just glad i didnt lose power. You seem like a cool person subbed.
Thanks!
Awesome dude! And congratulations on your new baby. Happy new year
If it's cold enough you can try to block the defrosters to the windshield, the snow does not get stuck on cold glass. Wear a coat and keep the cabin cool.
Our big plow was a Gallion grader. There was a huge V plow they mounted for the really big storms? Generally when we got over 4' in one storm. That left a narrow path that later had to be winged back.
Most I ever rode wing for was a 4 day event that dropped over 6'.
It's hard to count mail boxes when the snow is that deep.
Back in the 70's in New Hampshire I used to ride along on the town plow as wing man.
I was to raise and lower the wing and to count the number of mail boxes we wiped out.
One time we dug our front plow into the mud and got good and stuck.
One time I tagged a tree and broke a wing Mount in the middle of a big storm.
My son runs the town plow in Neebury NH.
I always tell my guys. When you get stuck. Stop. Get out. Access the situation. Shovel out and spread sand. Wait for back up. It can get worse in a hurry. Typically a gentle chain tug is all it takes to get you going. Nice video. Be safe brother.
I love your heated windshield that our biggest problem on our international is keeping the windshield clear!
I plowed snow for my local dpw for 10+ years. I don’t miss it one bit!!
I am a police officer but this will be my fifth year plowing snow for the town. I do enjoy it.
Thank you for your service 🙏
We’ll leave it in 3rd gear, foot on the floor and letter eat he says🤣🤣🤣 great content as always. Send some of that up to Michigan❄️😎
Lol
Nooo. I’m in Michigan lol. We are actually getting hit now
Fell onto your site by mistake. Stuck around to watch (it's a snowplowing thing, eh?). Man, you're living the dream! Wish I could be doing what you're doing. Love that you explain what you're doing. All the best to you and yours. Stay safe.
Thanks! Most of my channel is farming videos but we plow snow for our township in the winter.
Me, too - dream job...
I'm from Elgin Illinois and now live in Arkansas and I miss the snow but we still get it here love the videos keep them coming
I like a little bit of snow in the winter, but not too much!
@@WesFarms same here
Plowing snow with your dog on a Sunday morning, life lS good...!
Great video. Gotta lot of nice equipment. And you patient. That alone put money in your pocket
That green binder looks like a nice truck.
Being rom Australia I don’t see snow . I tip my hat to the people that work and live in the stuff . Looks beautiful but sooo 🥶 cold .
good vid dood!!!
We just got 8" of snow here in my area today, we normally don't get snow at all. We get alot of ice tho. But this year has been pretty bad
Nice video !
Fendt tractors are all wheel drive and with a front end loader with an v plow mounted on it and wings on the back make excellent snow removal equipment. The have CVT transmission and will do 35 mph on the road. The use them alot in Norway and Sweden and Estonia .
Congrats on the baby
Thank you!
I drove a salt truck for 20 year's and don't miss it one bit.
hi there nice show john
I’m retired now-plowed snow for 30 years, and quite frankly I don’t miss the long hours, the shift work and the dealing with residents of the municipality where I worked. You need a mirror on your plow harness post.(about 30 inches above where the wing connects to the post)and a flag on your wing tip.You will see the windrow you are leaving in your wake and how close you are to the edge of the road.
All the best in your snow plowing adventures and I hope your wife and child are well.
im fairly late apparently, but do you have any tips for someone looking to be a plow operator?
Most states are probably desperate for snow plow drivers. At least IL is
Cool truck for a single axle 🇨🇦
I dont miss that Central Illinois snow at all...
I wish they went back to mounting wiper on top by the roof clearance lights, need pair of heated wipers by everblades
I live in Hudsonville Michigan so it snows all the time with lake effect
Drone issue: if your drone permits, for cold weather droning i had a buddy that would tape some hand warmers over the battery parts.
Those little hand warmer packs. Worked surprisingly well enough to get the shots he need.
My dad has that exact truck, just in high vis yellow. Amazing where it will go with half a load of sand in it
It’s loaded with chips
You can buy defroster tape. Take a look for some works GGreat also heated wiper blades
When you get stuck like that, dig out the wheels, throw some chips under the wheels and out front (or back) and drive on out. We fight freezing rain on occasion, so several tricks to get unstuck in the tool box . . . . . Good job and keep at it.
We do that and it works sometimes
you need a convex mirror on that passenger side harness light so you can have a visual on that wing
Klasse 💪
Great video do more like rhis
A considerate snow plow driver, I thought it was the rule to bury the driveway entrance? At least that was what it seemed back when I lived in snow country
Sometimes we don’t have a choice
considering the last 4 or 5 winters have been mild ( if you live south of I 88 ) we were due for a massive snowy winter
Heated wipers...👍👍
For the drone and the cold, somehow secure a heating element or heat packet to the battery and the battery will stay warm so it should last a little longer
That’s a Dad thing beating the kids out but pretty easy to do !! Lol
Hydrant marker on your wing with spring should be tall enough to see.
Longer flap on the front plow. Small chains to hold it down if needed.
Take an old vacuum cleaner hose and connect it to defrost system and put it on dash where snow builds up, it heats the windshield and keeps snow from building up. It works, I've done it.
its almost plowing season!
Almost!
if you live in some of the higher elevation ( like in COL or northern Cal ) plowing season already arrived lol
Just the sound of that dt/maxxforce starting made my mechanic soul quiver in fear.
You are Awsome from london england
Thanks!
Comgrats on the baby....
Thanks!
that front windshield defroster must be nice ..i would love to have that in the plow i drive
It definitely helps!
If the Transmission is an Allison, they can be reprogrammed by the dealer to shift better for your job.
I use to plow for my town years ago... from 2000-2005... Had a I.H. single axle S-1900 /4900 series these days dump.. with a 12' good roads highway plow..... the my truck had a 210 hp DT-466 and 5 speed/2 speed manual transmission...use to put load of firewood log lengths in the bed for extra weight/ traction and go .... Never got stuck or hit any mailboxes unlike the people nowadays that work for them... mainly because it was my own truck and didn't want any issues with anyone. I sold the single axle back in the summer of 2017 because I got hurt that spring and needed major neck surgery... and didn't think I'd be able to work again. Big mistake.... Never should have sold that truck... only had 85,000 original garage kept miles and was back to work full time the fall of 2018.... Wound up buying a completely refurbished 1985 AM General 5 ton 6x6 military dump truck with only 17,000 original miles.... always wanted a 6x6 dump and it's been a great asset considering the amount of off road work do especially during the winter months... Landclearing and logging.....still wish I had my I.H. though !!! Good luck to you and your wife with the baby and hope you all stay safe and healthy during these crazy times. God Bless buddy !

You should come to Mn !!!! If you want to see SNOW 😢😢😢
Love your video! I work as an equipment operator for a county highway dept. in southwest Indiana. I see that you are in Iroquois County, IL. That is about 3 hours north of me. I drive an International 7300, great truck for the job. I am curious if your county has a road department, or do you get reimbursed for cleaning the roads yourselves? I know the equipment is very expensive. I can certainly relate to the windshield wiper problems and watching out for mailboxes and other drivers, quite a stressor. I have been plowing roads for 15 years now after retiring as a school teacher. I worked at the highway dept. during the summers while teaching. I got to stay on after I retired. Love the job!! In fact I was out plowing this same storm system in February. We only got 4 to 6 inches. You do a great job of videoing and explaining your work. I can tell that you enjoy your job as well. Thank you for taking the time to share this with others.
Thank you for the kind words! My dad is the road commissioner for our township so this is all township equipment.
There is. Company that now makes heated wiper blades very simple install and they last about 5 times longer than a normal pair of wiper blades I forget the name of the company but. a quick google should bring them up
about 20" here in ct.,,,,,gee-wiz no hills
Have you ever had anyone throw their shovel in the back of the truck where the salt goes?😂
Think god we didnt get that much down here on I70 people just can't wait for the plow they have to get out and get stuck
Nice tutorial on proper, safe and courteous work on snow-covered roads !! It's not easy and straight-forward at times. Won't all of those embedded defroster wires keep the area below the right wiper blade clear for you ?? Not working ?? Good luck with the newborn. You will need lots of naps after the birth...for sure. Would be nice to see the payloader and the blade on it.
Thanks! There’s a video called “I broke the Payloader” check it out!
Little advice to keep the windshield from icing up with the snow. Keep the windshield cold. So no heat/defrost running on the windshield. Keep the heat blowing on the floor. It will help alot.
It looks like it has a defroster elements on the windshield. If it’s working it should keep the ice down.
@@billrutherford6021 you’d think so but they just don’t work well enough. Especially when your plowing snow into the wind and it comes back on the windshield. You’re better off just keeping the windshield cold so the snow wont stick.
Just saw the section on wipers and if you apply Rain-X before you go out for the day that should make your life much simpler plus you dont have to worry about breaking a nail (finger nail guys...not like a hammer and nails). I use it all the time and when it's raining cars and dogs and large mice, a lot of times you barely use the wipers even though the guy in front of you has them on turbo mode! Seriously do try Rain-X though. Tip: apply 2 coats and use 3 towels. Apply with paper, cotton or microfiber TOWEL. After it has a haze to it wipe off with a cotton or microfiber Towel. Then wipe again with another microfiber Towel. Repeat and THEN go inside cab and look for any hazing or " blurry sections". re wipe if needed...Done!(That's why you have so many towels. )
It most likely should last for a few weeks or month depending on how much you use wipers.
Good tip 👍
On the other truck that shifts early, trying pushing the MODE button on the shifter, Sometime they are programed for economy or performance. Your primary calibration may be economy and shift early.
I usually just run it in manual mode
Oh yeah we got like 9 inches of snow luckily we had a snow blower if we did not then we would have to shovel for hours.
I live in East Texas and we had the worst winter storm here since I moved her almost 30 years ago. Prior to that I lived in California, ohio and Canada. So I know what a bad storm is and for east Texas it was pretty bad but of course nothing compared to ohio and especially Canada. Lived in Ontario right off the great lakes and we had blizzards from off the lakes and it is total snow blindness. We measured snow by feet not inches (this was a time before Canada went metric) so getting 10" over 2 days shut our city down. We dont have snow plows or snow blowers. A few front loaders maybe and shovels after that. Wind chills in single digits and 4 days later we looking at temps around 55-65 degrees.
Sounds like a bad deal down there. Stay safe!
u should get the mirrors on your plow lights to see your wing
"Not a big deal" lol easy for you to say. I've had my mail box ripped down 3 times already this year
Have you contacted whoever knocked it down?
@@WesFarms called the county to complain. I've seen that said guy, has taken multiple boxes out down the hwy I live on
I take it that Illinois doesn't put up snow fences anymore. I remember in Whiteside County how well they worked.
Nope
you are licky where I live we have 3 inches of snow and then inch of rain and now it's super cold.
Rain in the winter is the worst
@@WesFarms I agree
Especially when it rains and then snows on top and you have like an inch of ice it's the worst
Fun Fun, I plowed a City of 8000, 20 years later it was 85,000. A Fiat Allis 12' Ft & 10' Wing, They get Snaky when Heavy Pushin & Do lose traction going sideways. & as for Mail Boxes, the snow force Hits the Box not the wing, Seem no matter how careful one works there seems to be at least a couple down. It takes a lot of skill to put several thousand ton of snow where you want it & storage is always a problem, some folks think you are supposed to remove it & take it with you ! It is a rougher job than the average person thinks, But Equipment is getting better every year, GOOD LUCK, STAY SAFE, & LOOK OUT FOR THE CARELESS FOOLS !
Thanks!
Big heating element right by the wiper to keep snow from building up. A good idea would be to turn it on...
It’s on, wiper arm will break before the ice has a chance to melt.
@@WesFarms I agree my wrangler has element for wipers and it’s hard for it to keep up melting if you driving in 30 degree weather at 50 effectively making windchill damn near 0 degree
1:42 yeah I am about to fire this thing up, my dad already beat me out… yeah he usually beats me out! Lmfao it’s so funny bc it’s so true, I can never beat my dad out for work 🙄😤😳
Trying to help some one gets himself stuck ahhh man have we all been there trying to help some one and u end up in trouble too ahah
For each joint on your finger you have about an inch and the whole hand is about 6 inches.
put your heat on the floor and open your drivers side window a little it will keep the front window clear and cold i plow snow in Manitoba Canada
Thank you. Everyone I see always puts the defroster on full blast and runs their wipers. If you get it clear and let the glass get cold it won't even stick. Most of the time lol.
Snow below the wiper - what about the heating elements in the window? Not strong enough? Great video - thanks for sharing.
Takes a while for it to melt after it gets plastered with ice and snow
Turn the defog switch on, it will burn that snow off that corner below the wiper. Thats what that grid is for.
I know, it was on
@@WesFarms it might not be working, international electrics are terrible.
International windshield are to flat I don't run defrost if I can get by just a little heat on the floor cold glass
