- Love this Toyota truck and being able to rent one is far better than a test drive. But this wasn't a planned thing and its good to get our regular car back.

This channel is very refreshing. It's great to see your home, projects and experience your lifestyle. Also it''s so good to see a craftsman who can do the entire project. Thanks for this and keep them coming.Regards from RedBud Forge
Understandable. My mom jumped on me for not buying something either new or newer. I said that, by the time I find something in a price I consider reasonable, it would probably have the same issues as the one I'm driving now. So might as well fix what I have and save my money.
You should have posted this yesterday...
It would have been "TACO" Tuesday !!!!
Great video ! A friend told me, "Don't drive a tractor with an air conditioned cab unless you plan to buy one." The same advice could apply to nice trucks. Thanks for setting a good example in practicality for all of us.
Great advice.
Hi John I brut my wife a new car when she retired, and I have a old ford SUV to use as a run around . 🤠👍.
Hi John, you scared me, new truck? Ok maybe 🤔
You need to use caution, when you start driving a new, new truck.
I just finished a 2000 mile road trip in a 2020 Promaster, the trip was great. If I were to have made that trip in my 25 year old Dodge van, my body would have given up 500 miles into the trip.
Take care, and thanks for sharing.
I'm always impressed by your cinematography, Mr. John. The dealership should give you a discount for your beautiful video work! Thanks for sharing with us!
Thank you. A discount would be great, but I don't think I'll hold my breath waiting for one 😉
@@JohnSwitzer Did I see Janet shooting some "Second Unit" work?
@@markschweter6371 I confess!
I have a 2009 Tacoma and I’m very pleased with it. I had bought it used and it had a little over 100,000 km on it. It was abused and had a few issues. With some $$$ and TLC it was back to satisfaction and a real pleasure to own. Then! About 4 years ago I got a notice from Toyota that somewhere in those/that year’s a corrosion problem arose with the frame and the coating they put on it. With the recall for this truck, they wanted it in the dealership to check. If the damage was minor; they’d clean it up and put on a new coating. If it was major; they’d replace the frame! Well, guess what? Mine needed the frame replaced! This was a warranty issue and the only cost to me was replacement of worn parts, like shocks, tires and other minor things. It took about 2 1/2 years before they finally got the right frame in! I got the call, took ‘er in; they gave me a rental car (no cost to me) and they took off everything and put ‘er on a brand spanking new frame‼️ From what they figured it cost me about $1000 and cost them about $10,000‼️ Impressed? YES‼️ She runs good; I have about 360,000 km’s on her and runs great!
Wow, thats good service.
Congratulations! Nice!
Info for yota owners. 07 Tacoma 2.7L MADE IN THE USA!!!
I don't know about any other years.
A pipe that goes from thermostat housing, towards the rear of engine, it travels between the intake manifold and the engine block. It comes out the back and splits into 2 pipes.
The pipe is made out of plastic!!!
BLEW MY MINED!!!
I almost lost my engine to over heating, and I'm sure I've lost some life in it..
Hope this helps someone!!!
My daily driver is an old square body pickup, 1980. My "nice" pickup, is a very nice square body pickup, 1985. If I had a dollar for every time sometime told me, or asked me, about buying something newer, I could afford a new pickup. My 2 pickups, together, tags and insurance, run me about $40/month. I can't complain about that.
Throw a 12.5 mm DSHK in the back, and it'll last forever!
If you're rent that scaffolding for that long, you'll have just about paid for it. So hope you bought it. It's handy to have around when you need it even though it sits unused for long periods of time. Time spent picking it up, taking it back, fuel, just buy it. rental companies do not subtract your rental fee from the cost, bite the bullet up front. You'll be wanting some wheels for it eventually for working on flat ground, far easier to move around.
Totally agree, we did buy it. Wheels for flat ground? I'm not sure we have any of that.
That’s funny, I drive a Toyota Tacoma (2002) and have built scaffold for over 17 years for a living. Still rather stay home and work in the blacksmith shop.
Hahaha guess I should have watched longer before commenting!! Lol
Nice pickup truck John... The opposite thing happened to me this week, I took in my pickup for a service and they lent me a hatchback 😅
Thats more what I was expecting, but they offered us a choice for the same fee, so we went fancy.
At first I was envious because I thought you had bought a truck I like but could never justify paying for unless it was for paying work. I recently settled for a 2008 F150 after months of searching. I don't need a truck all the time, but I do need one occasionally, and especially to pull a trailer once in awhile. Setting up and moving scaffolding is a pain to do by yourself. At 75, I use a ladder too. That vertical climb on the scaffolding is still possible, but getting over the top is a challenge.
Luckily this is as tall as I need for this project.
If i could get a newish car this would totally be my second choice :)
Whats your first?
John, excellent video. Better than the so-called pros. Big thumbs up.👍
Glad you enjoyed it
I thought I'd click on Shawn James there for a minute 😂
Toyota Smart Choice. I'm a Chevy guy but this day and age with all the brand new stuff being is poor quality as it is if I'm spending that kind of money on a new truck it's going to be a Toyota
I'am a chevy guy also but I don't drive the new junk those are not chevy in my opinion.
Nice truck but it would be better if it had a real bed instead of a rear glove compartment pretending to be a bed.
Thanks John for the video. What is the cabin to be used for for exactly, like a summer sleep out?
Just a place to get away without phones or internet. As well as a guest house for visitors that want a rustic experience.
Cool old cabin, what are your plans with it?
Hopefully we can get it all fixed up to use as nice quite place to hang out from time to time and as a guest house. Although it won't have electricity or plmubing
What’s a matter, John? Didn’t want to test that truck’s off-road capability and run that scaffold up to the cabin?😂
Don't want to scratch it on overhanging tree branches.
don't you have an old square body chevy. seems like I remember one from a video a long time ago. I'd rather have one of them....
Two actually and they're great for running to the lumber yard or steel supplier, but noisy and uncomfortable for longer trips. Not to mention miserable gas millage.
Nice truck, those short bed are all most useless.
It was much better than I thought and we used it quite a bit in the short time we had it. But with two older full size trucks, I wouldn't need this for hauling sheet goods. Of course it doesn't matter since we had to give it back when the little car was ready.
