Like when saito asks eames about the disturbance in second level he scoffs at airplane turbulence and says it's much closer and Yusufs driving in the first level. And even the projections thing, Cobb had his kids in limbo too. Ariadne didn't shoot with the gun because it was a kick she had to ride back up the layers etc.

0:08 Saito is the dreamer. He's the one in control. Same reason why Fischer can spawn infinite projection bodyguards.
0:13 He does this right after a cut with him saying he can't trust her anymore. I think this was intentional to show his internal conflicts and the irregular nature of the dream.
0:38 I believe that's intentional to stump Cobb. the "entrance" to that maze is also messed up. ultimately it's about the symbolicism in thinking "outside the box" with a circular maze that alludes to a clock.
0:46 1:00 These are also bits of spontaneity and confusion added in to make you doubt whether Cobb is really in reality here, like the shrinking walls he has to squeeze through.
1:08 Rule of Cool applies here.
1:26 Another bit to make you doubt whether this was a dream or reality. How did Mal get to the other side?
1:42 The bigger the changes you make, the more attention you draw. If you start driving around in a tank they’ll probably start using anti-tank weapons, causing the dream to become less stable and controllable.
1:45 The kick isn't exactly the sensation of falling, to be more accurate it's an abrupt change in acceleration. The first kick is the van hitting the barrier and the second is when they hit the water. The others were already down another level; nitpick here would be why Arthur didn’t wake up.
2:28 my theory is that its a preprogrammed tool, like mazes. dream bullets dont actually kill you, they send you to limbo. dream defibrillators could have a similar analogy.
2:35 They are going down to Cobb’s limbo, or his subconscious, which is where his guilt for Mal’s death is strongest, because that’s also where he planted the idea that made her kill herself. You can’t control your subconscious, same as how he couldn’t stop "Mal" from betraying him in the Saito mission, or even realize it.
2:43 The laws in the dream world aren’t absolute. it's essentially up to whatever the dreamer can come up with. I imagine things get even more funky down in limbo.
2:45 Again, he’s talking to his subconscious, which he can’t control. Him "bargaining" with Mal is actually him trying to reconcile his guilt.
2:51 Eames is collapsing the fortress so that Ariadne and Fischer get their kick to get back up to Arthur's level.
3:00 She’s using the fall as a kick, synchronized with Eames blowing up the supports and collapsing the snow fortress.
3:06 Cobb has been to limbo before, and this time he’s here intentionally, not like Saito who was killed. Thus he didn’t lose himself as Saito did, which is why he stayed young.
3:10 I did some googling, seems its not necessary but can be requested. (i almost lost my mind that this might have been another clue, but it turns out Japan also does not typically do this, otherwise it could have pointed to Saito's dream's ignorance.)
3:13 We can assume Saito “dealt” with them off-screen long before and it wasn’t mentioned.
3:17 4:01 That’s the bomb you just hit on. Not only does the top not work as a totem (because it does the opposite of what it should do in reality), it’s also invalid because Saito and Ariadne know about it. So spinning it doesn’t tell Cobb whether he’s in reality, a dream, or Saito’s limbo. Where you go from there is up to you. There are multiple contradicting hints as to whether he’s actually in reality at the end, such as the wedding ring and what his kid said as we focus on the red herring top in the final shot.
3:48 because you have to imagine your totem as a physical extension of yourself that's always with you. but it's true that they don't have to be these little items, they could be a well concealed tattoo, birth mark, or mole, maybe even some small implanted bump on your body to make it even less detectable.
edited 12.16.20; tenet blurays just came out! the movie was cool, but ever so slightly disappointing imo. there were definitely plenty of details and mind boggling concepts to work through tho.
i like The Closer Look's explanation that it's meant to be experimental, almost entirely focused on the plot, with a blank slate main character literally credited as the "protagonist".

The van rolling doesn't work as a kick because it's not a synchronised kick. Given that they are under the influence of a powerful sedative, a simple kick won't do. So in order to wake up in a dream level they need to get a synchronised kick: one to the sleeping body in that dream level (ex. Them in the van) and one to the dreaming self in the level right below (ex. Them in the hotel). Let's take Ariadne example: when she's in Limbo, she jumps down the building (kick to the dreaming self) while getting a kick from the explosion of the hospital (kick to the sleeping body). This way she wakes up in the third level. The explosion in the third level works at the same time as kick to the dreaming self while the lift fall works as a kick to the sleeping body, so she can wake up in the second level. And so on. The van rolling is not synchronised to kick in the level right below, this is why it doesn't work.

For the sun with Arthur and Cobb in the chair, Arthur was under a sedative that didn’t mask anything to do with your ears, allowing you to feel when you were falling because your ears is where you get your balance from. Cobb wasn’t using that sedative in that scene, that was the mission before where he just needed wake up and cold water does the trick. Or you can interpret it like the ending where he was failing so he missed the first kick and had to go with the second

the thing is. Pay close attention to every fucking scene in the whole fucking movie ok? Cobb's tomtem isn't that spinning little shit. In fact, its pretty much what you suggested at the last sin. Every time he is in a dream, he has a ring in his left hand. He can't forget Mal so each time he enters the dream, he has the ring. Now, here is when it gets crazy. Cobb grabs the bag in the airport (we cant see the left hand) He is moving towards the bald guy (we cant see the left hand) gives the bald guy his airport passaport with his left hand and BOOYAA no ring motherfuckers. That is the point of cinema sins. Movies are made to make sense in some point. If at least 1/4 of the audience is still confused in the end, the film failed to deliver properly.

(arguably the movie is so complex that the top could be mal's totem and cobb's totem is his wedding ring but right now im just going to assume in this argument that its cobb's totem) and you know that you're in a dream if the top doesn't fall over, and you know that you're in reality if it does. in the ending, we see the top spun and despite seeing it wobble, we never find out if it really falls over or not. that means that there is a possibility that cobb is still dreaming of the successful mission and reuniting with his kids - or if the camera simply cut away too soon and the top really did fall over and everything we see at the end is actually reality. its heartbreaking bc we never know which it is, though most of probably hope its the latter

I think the maze sin has a different meaning attached to it. Do you really think a director like Christopher Nolan who was working on this project for 10 years, wouldn't pay heed to the final maze doodled by Ariadne? In a recent Q&A he answered some questions relating to Inception where he further explained the theory that the whole film might just be a dream and nothing was reality. If this theory is really true, and the whole film is just a dream, then this maze sin wouldn't be a sin as in our dreams there's nothing called 'impracticality'. So in that sense, it wouldn't be a sin rather a 'hint' suggesting that the whole movie was a dream.

His actual totem (and it is not clearly said in the movie, you have to watch closely to get it) is his wedding ring : In dreams, he is still married to Mal, and he wears a wedding ring. In the reality, he does not wear it. (which is what you suggest at 3:49) And in the end? He is not wearing the ring. Therefore, he IS awake.

In fact, Sir Michael Caine (Miles) suggested that anytime his character is on screen, it is reality. Miles is also present at the end, so who knows? Maybe Miles' presence is his totem.

In the scene with Cobb falling into the tub, they're on the second level (Saito was surprised that it was "a dream inside a dream") and when Cobb is explaining everything to Ariadne they are not asleep and Joseph Gordon Levitt's character is in a dream 1-level-deep. To support this, I give the example of the final job - they have to resort to an explosion to do the kick on the third level and suicide on the additional 4th level (Ariadne - jumping off a cliff, Cobb - bullet to the head). So, it's not surprising that they needed a stronger kick.

But then you may say, while Cobb broke the rule and told Arieadne how the totem works. Except the top wasn't his totem, it was Mal's. Cobbs totem is is wedding ring. It's not possible to make a time travel movie make sense all the way because time traveling is impossible. Same with the Matrix and Inception and so on. I love these movies. Don't take them from me...

Sometimes the sins are a matter of judgment and taste on the part of those being critical. Some things aren't literally against "rules" of story telling or filmmaking, but they're still cheese or lazy or lacking depth or whatever the specific is. People who like the movie defend it then by saying "You don't get it" meaning you don't appreciate it or something.
Yes, I don't appreciate many things that others like. I think they're bad for reasons. This is where critical review becomes wishy washy and you have to choose your side and your general outlook on how things should be done.

Whether or not you like the movie is irrelevant to whether or not all the things in this video are sins. For example, there are at least 3 sins that are explained by the whole "time is different in each layer thing," Liking or not liking the movie doesn't change that.

Okay, so clearly you didn't understand this movie, here are the the sins of this video: 1.Saito can have bodyguards because its what he wanted based on where he was, obviously Mal wont need bodyguards in the house with her projection children. 2. Cobb doesn't feel the kick that Arthur does do to the fact that he was trapped in limbo with Mal, which affects him when he is dreaming different to other characters. 3. No witnesses can heard Cobb and Mal arguing because they're the only ones in limbo.. IN THE WORLD THEY CREATED. 4. Cobb didn't kill his wife, she committed suicide by jumping off that building. 5. Forensic science cant go into their limbo which is where they would stay for many dream years and prove that Mal committed suicide because the whole dream thing is illegal. 6. His fingerprints weren't in the hotel, Mal destroyed it alone, which you can find in some point in the movie. 7. They aren't going to "dream up" a tank because that's retarded for one guy on the roof, even so there is only one van left with one guy in it trying to kill them, and a tank wont serve very well for a kick submerged in water. 8. Van tumbling on its side isn't a kick because AS STATED: They dreamers are sedated, so they need to be dunked in water like Cobb in the bath. 9.The rules of gravity only affect the next dream. 10. That's the point, Fischer doesn't recognize Saito because they are tricking his sub conscious, and who said that Fischers ever seen Saitos face? 11. Yes Arthur was able to do that in a couple of minutes because as CLEARLY stated in the movie the van falling off the bridge into the water slowed time, Cobb states the time differences in between each level when consulting the plans. 12. Cobb is within the levels she is and alive because shes a projection of Cobbs guilt so shell follow him, as stated on the snow mountain, if Ariande told Cobb how she designed the level Mal would know as well = Follows Cobb. 13. Mal killing Fischer was him going to limbo and falling into Mal's hands, clearly stated, if you die in this inception you will go to limbo which was created by Cobb and MAL so.. 14. Yes genius, they were soaked when they left the ocean, and in the next scene when they're passing the giant buildings which were far into the distance, were dry, do the math.. = you dry off as you walk past the hundreds of buildings. 15. He's making a ransom deal to find out where Fischer is, also Mal is still capable of harming him as being a part of him. 16. The reason for the guy blowing up the snow level building was to give a kick = building falling down = falling down = kick. 17. Ariande doesn't push two people off a skyscraper, just Fischer and its the storm which was the defibrillator which was how to get out of limbo = death + defibrillator = life :). 18. Ariande shooting herself and the others in limbo would have KILLED THEM, good solution when you can live instead, right? Actually Cobb and Saito didn't enter limbo at the same time and as STATED many times before in the movie dream time is very different from real, do you think when you dream it lasts for the full time you sleep? No like five minutes, again time difference, many years passed in limbo before Cobb got there. Also you might ask why Fischer didn't age, its because Saito was dying for each level he got shot in the first one, so it was slow bleed out. 19. Cobbs totem is meant to spin forever if hes in a dream genius which is what makes it unique. 20. Arthurs totem is meant to land on a certain number each time if hes in a dream genius.

As @MeatPawpsicle said, you must be new to Cinema Sins so let me explain a few things to you. Cinema Sins is not a series that is dedicated to only covering bad movies, movies they believe are bad, or trying to make people think good movies are actually bad. They simply point out funny/illogical/WTF errors, many of which people wouldn’t think of which results in viewers laughing/enjoying it because it’s a different take on the movie. The two guys that do it love Back to the Future, it’s the top movie for one and within the top five for another, they still did a sins video on it. Why? Because every movie has sins. It does, unless it’s a documentary, every movie has screw ups or things that don’t make sense. There are various reasons for this, for example in World War Z something happened and they had to reshoot everything after Israel and they changed the entire ending, well because of that a lot of things were cut on the editing room floor, thus some things are not explained. Happens in movies all the time. Or Prometheus, there was a reason Guy was in it, he had more scenes where he was a younger man, but they all got axed, resulting in confusion as to why they had a well known actor put on old man makeup for 5 minutes of screen time.
Everything you wrote just makes it look like you are a huge fan boy (and fan boys are not a good thing. A fan boy is basically a racist person. You can throw any logic/science/fact/idea at them and they’ll never change their mind because they have this blind commitment to some ideal) because you seem like your mad about everything. Again this isn’t to destroy people’s love of the movie, it’s just a funny look at everything. Now I’d like to go through your sin things real quick.
      1. That doesn’t make sense, why didn’t Saito, or anyone in Limbo, ever just ‘dream up’ other people to talk with then?
      2. This doesn’t make sense, but I think a lot of it is because of the way you wrote the sentence. Cobb doesn’t feel the kick performed by Arthur because he’s in Limbo with Mal?… Wait, never mind, none of what you wrote makes sense since Cobb is in Limbo with Mal well before the movie even starts and doesn’t return until going after Saito.
      3. You are now telling me that the entire movie takes place in Limbo?… I don’t think you understood the movie. Mal’s mind was messed with by Cobb in Limbo. So when Cobb was in the real world with Mal she couldn’t accept that the real world was real. She rebels against the ‘reality’ that has been presented to her. This is why she kills herself, to prove to Cobb that it’s a dream, and to go ‘deeper’ into the dream realm. She knows Cobb will have to follow her, especially if she makes it look like he killed her. If this was all in Limbo it wouldn’t make sense for Cobb to care because he’d just follow her. Also if it was in a dream she wouldn’t be dead and he could go back to America whenever he wants.
      4. But they are in Limbo! Also why is this here again? We know that this happens because it’s on the screen. We watch her do it.
      5. Again I don’t think you understand the movie. If Mal dies in Limbo, she goes into a further limbo or her mind just is completely mush. Regardless, her real world body would result in no physical damage or death other then mental.
      6. That’s what they are saying, because Mal was the only one in the room, and she was the one who destroyed it, the cops should be able to say, ‘Well there’s no finger prints from Cobb on any of these items that he threw during this fight.’
      7. It doesn’t matter that a tank wouldn’t serve for a kick in the water because it was never planned to go into the water, you do have a point about the Tank not being able to serve for a kick though,.
      8. Wait wait wait, I can’t tell if this is a good point or not. I don’t recall the movie ever saying sedated dreamers need to be wet to wake up. And Cobb wasn’t sedated in the first scene was he?
      10. In the business world, in today’s world, you should know what the CEO of your enemy company looks like, but maybe you are justified.
      13. Limbo wasn’t ‘created’ by anyone. It’s simply the next level down. Because it’s so far into the dreamers mind it’s very wasteland like and empty unless someone is there and they build in it, but if you took a completely separate group, put them in all the dream stages needed without even being in the other people’s dreams, when they got to Limbo it would not be the same Limbo Mal and Cobb were in.
      18. Wait wait wait, you don’t ‘go back to the previous dream level by waking up/coming back to life’… When Mal and Cobb are in Limbo during his flashbacks they have to lay on a train track and imagine/dream a train coming and killing them. So forget what I said about Mal killing herself to go into the further past limbo, she killed herself to wake up. That’s what she was trying to do, because when you die in Limbo is when you wake up if you had died in a dream. Or at least one that far deep.
      18. Actually dying in Limbo wakes you up completely, so you are wrong. 19. We understand what Cobb’s fucking totem is suppose to do. THAT’s why at the end of the movie people may argue that he is either in a dream and never really gets to see his kids again, or that he’s in the real world. BTW those spin tops, I have one, they spin for a long time, but Nolan put this scene in the film to make people think, ’wait, is he dreaming or is he awake?’ 20. I think everyone understands that, although if someone saw Arthur roll his die, they could just dream up weighted dice that land on whatever it’s suppose to land on, this is why the weight of the die also is only known to Arthur.
You just kind of took this video too seriously and mistook it for the guys trying to destroy the movie when it’s just a satire meant for enjoyment. There’s a series kind of like this, it’s defunct now, called ‘Bad Movie Theatre’ by Adam Koralik, you can’t find the videos on CZcams but go to Figureitoutproductions.com and they’ll link you to it. Anyway I love the movie, ‘The Island’ and he did one of these on it and pointed out some huge flaws, but I didn’t get pissed and write him a nerd-tastic over reaction fan boy post about it. I simply laughed at the things I had never realized before and continued to enjoy the movie. Calm down dude, it’s just the internet.

jfcmanalo I think I have a theory for that
The Totems are suppose to be one per dreamer, but the thing is that CoBB is probably the only person that has two totems. in his case he uses the top so he can threw people off, as we all know a Top can stop in real life, so to our understanding if that were true he would be stuck in a dream indefinitely if the baddies wold recreate a top to wobble, however thats his idea, to see if his first defense is breached, his second defense is his nonexistant ring.
in the beginning of the movie he wears it in the dream world, however in reality he is wearing no ring whatsoever. in the movie he stopped wearing his ring after his wife died.
      also

      Pen StorySky
Why have totems in the real world in the first place if you can just make something in the dream that you don't have/wear in the real world? "I'm gonna wear just red socks in the dreams so I know I'm dreaming" It doesn't work like that or at least it's never hinted.
When Cobb "wakes" in the dream does he always have the ring on auromatically or does he have to put it on as soon as he is dreaming. If it just automatically appears in his finger at will then you really don't totems in the first place. If he has to put it on consciously them it really doesn't help at all. You'd have to know you're dreaming to put it on. If you don't know you're dreaming, you think that you are in the real world, then you wouldn't put it on and you're in trouble.
And the others must have seen that he is only wearing his ring in dreams. So all they have to do is wait that Cobb is dreaming and put the ring (if it still exists) or a copy of the ring to his finger and now he has no way of knowing if his dreaming or not.

    @bookshop Před 10 lety +5

i have no idea why i'm leaving this comment bc it's the geekiest thing i've ever done, but i feel compelled to clarify plot points on a few things that aren't actually sins, and a few things that are!
    - The reason Arthur could feel the kick when he was falling later even though Cobb didn't is because Cobb and Arthur were using two different kinds of Somnacin blend. The one Arthur was using was an experimental test of Yusuf's new mix of chemicals, which he (magically lol) designed to "leave inner ear function unimpaired," which is why Arthur (and subsequently the others) could experience the sensation of falling. (what's the most frustratingly unclear part about kicks is that apparently you don't actually *need* to feel the sensation of falling because it's the impact/explosion/thud that actually kicks you up. All the "sensation of falling" thing means, in practical terms, is that arthur spends a lot of time in zero gravity.)
    - The reason the van turning over and over doesn't function as a kick is because for this particular kick to work, it has to sync up with another kick happening down below. The kick they planned (the van hitting the railing) fails for two reasons: a) because it's not powerful enough, and b) it's not synchronized.
As you go deeper into the dream, the effects of the real world actions get more and more muffled. (For example: That's why the giant tuba noise of destruction is so slow and draggy whenever you hear it in the dream; it's actually the quick ostinato bass line of "non, je ne regrette rien" slowed down exponentially until it's a dull throb in the background.) When the car turns over in the air, everyone feels it on the first level and the second level--arthur has his zero-gravity fight and we conveniently don't see anyone on the third level at all. Given the muffled impact that the actual kick has, we can assume they got a series of mini-avalanches before the big one that we actually see for the kick. But those little shocks aren't kicks because the dreamers aren't in place to kick themselves up from below. (Why don't the dreamers on the top level wake up during the van flip? Because per a) and b), again: a) Yusuf's Somnacin is very good, and they're sleeping very deeply, and b) They need all three kicks happening at once to wake them up.)
Because they're doing so many new things in the three-layer dream, they have to deliver kicks for each level, and all at the same time (relatively, since there's a major time delay between the first and third levels). When the van hits the railing, Arthur is supposed to be blowing up the hotel and Eames is supposed to be blowing up the hospital--it's the only way to get them out because the top-level kick they devise isn't powerful enough to jolt them out of all the levels. (That's why the warning music--Edith Piaf--plays as "wind" on the third level for 20 minutes before they even realize it's actually the kick music.)
But when the top-level kick comes, they're not where they need to be and since everything is so muffled, all they get is a little avalanche that knocks them down off the mountain. It's not enough to wake them up. This means they have to devise a totally new kick. Queue Eames blowing up the building, and Arthur blowing up the elevator. Notice how they also have to re-do the musical countdown in order to sync up. (I guess Arthur's subconscious dream ipod is perfectly queued and in-tempo!)
    - the reason Eames blows up the building on the third level is, as previously discussed, to kick all of his team members up from that level. The defibrillator servers a double purpose, since it not only revives fischer on the third level but serves as the signal to the limbo kids that it's time for them to kick themselves up a level, which ariadne does by literally drop-kicking fischer off the building.
    - here's where it just goes off the rails. At first we're told the inception levels increase in multiples of 20, this is made extremely clear from the outset during the planning stages. BUT when the van is (according to cobb) 10 secs away from the railing, Cobb says Arthur is 3 minutes away from the kick and that Level 3 has 60 minutes. If Arthur is really 180 seconds away from his missed kick when Cobb says so, that means the time is actually multiples of 18 and the third level only has 54 minutes. But then later, when the van starts falling, Cobb says a) Arthur has a "couple of minutes" and somehow, inexplicably, b) the third-level team just has 20 minutes. That means we've gone from multiples of 20 to 18 to 10!!! without explanation.
A better theory is that Cobb is a moron who can't do math and the 1:20 ratio is the same all along. But that means that if he's right about them only having 20 minutes on level 3, then Arthur actually has *less* than "a couple" of minutes-he only has 90 seconds.
Since that's not physically possible, I like to pretend Arthur just made time slow down with his MIND on that level. It makes about as much sense as anything else in this movie.
    - the biggest sin you left out, in my opinion: if Arthur can go back to the U.S., as he tells Cobb in the beginning of the movie he intends to do, why doesn't Cobb just have him go get his kids and bring them to Miles' house in Paris? PROBLEM SOLVED.

3rd: If you were more observant, He never remembered what his children's faces were like, Hence why he avoided them. When he went back to reality, His Children were existent.

at least they admitted they went fishing for sins, I only counted 4 actual sins, the curtain and flight attendant, poor enemy shooting, van tumbling not being a kick, and arthur doing all that in a couple of minutes. every thing else is them deliberately removing context from the film. Like the reason no ones going to do a foresnic scan is bc Mal had created Cobbs motive. She said she was scared for her life from her husband. Or the reason he has a passport is bc hes no longer a US citizen bc of Sato's plan, hes probs a japanese citizen now. Oh and Mal is more than a projection, she was part of his subconscious and conscious (bc Cobb and Mal were two parts of a whole). The whole totem thing actually explains the whole movie bc of Cobbs ring which does EXACTLY what you were complaining about.

10Exahertz I think the question about why gravity isn't impacted in the "snow level" though, is a valid one (I've thought of that before while watching it). If they are all experiencing zero g in the hotel level where they are asleep (which is because of the zero g caused by the falling van in the first dream level), then why wouldn't they be experiencing the zero g in the snow level? That's the only sin that has actually bothered me when watching the movie. I still LOVE this movie and think it's incredibly well made, but I haven't been able to come up with a good explanation for that.

    • @10Exahertz
      @10Exahertz Před 8 lety +1

The thing is an avalanche doesnt actually represent gravity, nor need to, an avalanche can be symbolic of any inertial shift, such as them banging against a wall in the hotel room while in zero g

Fun fact: The reason why we perceive this film to be so good is because the huge number of concepts illudes us by making us struggle to understand the baseline of the story and not struggle enough to go beyond that baseline and find the cracks in the plot.

3:58 You can't just "not carry a totem with you in a dream". I can testify personally, I had a dream that I really thought was real, I even pinched myself and took out my phone to take a picture and send it to someone. Normally in a dream I just stay in reality and don't access the internet. (Sometimes I watch movies in a dream tho.)
But that's also when the dream literally started to collapse. The phone camera was zoomed in weirdly and then crazy things started happening and I started noticing as the people beside me lost their heads and shit.
I guess sending a photo to someone on my phone is a totem. Or, I can look up a random person's account on instagram and see if it's real later. Your mind can't come up with the names of real accounts you don't know. I thought it did once or twice in my dreams but then forgot the account name by the time I woke up.
Point is, your mind can trick you in certain ways like bringing things into your dreams that you expect to be there, but if you inspect the logic too hard it'll start to fall apart. The simulation isn't that powerful. Unless maybe you're in Limbo. Never been there.

    1. Satio had body guard projections just as Fischer had projections of his bodyguards. These were important figures in their lives & were part of their subconscious.
    2. The point of the movie was not only to talk about the concept of inception but for Cobb to confront his inner demons- which happened to be the appearance and control of his wife in his subconscious & overcoming that.
    3. If the architect hadn't got the material wrong than the story line of the whole movie would have been altered because Ariadne wouldn't have been needed.
    4. The 'Asian kid's name is Todashi. Codd pays him to be there when Satio wakes. Read the screenplay.
5.You can hear the helicopter propellers when it arrives. It's a movie. If there were the actual amount of noise a real helicopter makes you wouldn't be able to hear the dialogue.
    8. You missed one. During Cobb's run from Cobolt Energy employees they pan out to see the alleyways he's running down which happen to be empty of people, but when the scene switches to street view, the alleyway is crowded.
    13. Everybody feels kicks differently. Because of Arthur's ability to feel the kicks better he's chosen to wake them during the 4 layer dream with Fischer.
    17. The entire conversation with Ariadne takes place in front of Satio?
    25. He has a few minutes before they hit the ledge. and then several more before they hit the water.
    27. Have you been watching? Mal has control over anyone in Cobbs dream. She shoots Fischer putting him into limbo, and then goes into limbo herself before Cobb does. Because limbo has a larger time dimension, she has kidnapped Fischer before Cobbs gets to it.
    28. Limbo is a different time dimension. How do you know it was 'just moments' later?
    29. obviously he has a problem with being able to sense what is real or what is not when it comes to his wife & because of this yes, he does not act with logic. but eventually he does confront her. if faced with the same dilemna would you have done the same?
    30. They have to be waken from each layer of the dream. They commit suicide in limbo bringing them back to Eames which blows them up waking them in time to be blown up by the hotel elevator explosion which wakes them up in time to rescue themselves from the sinking van.
    35. Satio touching Cobb's totem in limbo is not a big deal because Cobb's totem isn't his totem it's actually his wife's totem that he carries around as a memory. Cobb's totem is his ring because in every scene of a dream he was wearing his wedding ring and in every scene of reality he was not wearing his ring.

I mean, yeah, we see that was what Cobb and Mal were doing for 50 years, and that one guy makes a gun that way, but never do we see it used in a major way to solve any big problem. in the end, it's a cool shot, but was utterly pointless. I guess Nolan was never told what Chekov's Gun was.

the movie wasnt complex at all, you go into a dream: time slows down. you go into a dream from that dream (aka a deeper “dream level”) time slows even more. What about this concept is revolutionary to people? Have yall never heard of time dilation before? Thats all this movie is, a blockbuster action movie with a pseudo sci-fi plot loosely based on time dilation. Theres no substance in the movie past that. You could argue that it has emotional themes and the meaning lies more in the characters and their arcs, but the plot itself is not very meaningful. It is used as a device to explain away all the action, shooting and explosion cgi that they wanted to throw in there. The same with most blockbuster action movies, the plot isnt meant to stand alone, it is merely a device to give the characters reasons to do things and justify the massive fight scenes. If they could make a movie with little to no plot ans just action/explosions they would. OH WAIT, im thinking of fast and furious, bourne franchise, marvel movies, etc... People get so distracted by the cinematic quality of these movies, ie. The audiovisual quality, and conflate it with substance and overall quality.
At the end of the day, art is subjective, although there are fairly objective guidelines that define good art and bad art, in the same sense, you could argue that banging your head against the wall is good music, but most people would agree that pop songs sound better than banging your head, so we can draw a sort of intuitive line between the two. The whole point of this comment was to refute this notion that the movie is somehow complex in plot or themes, not to claim an objective authority on whether or not the movie is good.

The top is actually his wife’s totem. Cobb spins it because he knows it will fall (proving he’s awake) because for his wife it would infinitely spin while dreaming. Cobb’s totem is never explicitly identified, but it’s his wedding band. He only has his ring when he’s dreaming (outside of flashbacks before Mol dies).
