Loving these doubles highlights, at first I wasn't into them but now I'm totally enjoying these highlights, please keep them coming! Doubles is a huge part of tennis.

The tactical play and rallies seen in doubles put them on
another level and usually more entertaining to watch than singles.
It's more popular at club level so makes sense.
Now if we can just get court level hl that would be great. Doubles really shines at court level. Reaction time can really be felt.

It's a good thing that Madrid started to allow more double's spots for single's players. This makes the double's draw a lot more interesting. While this is somewhat unfortunate for the lower ranked double's specialists, who lost some spots in the main draw, it is good for the double's overall when more top single's players can be encouraged to play more doubles.
The lesser reported bit is that actually less singles players signed up to play this year than last year! But so happy for Korda and Thompson.
So happy for both of them! I honestly didn't know that either Thompson or Korda were that great at doubles, they were a wonderful team this week!

It's because you aren't watching it regularly. Once you watch Lot and Lot of matches you will find doubles comparatively boring.

IMHO singles players make good doubles players, but not great doubles players. Doubles players own the serve return and the angles. But Korda and Thompson have something really going here.
I think if the singles guys played doubles more regularly they would excel. They just play a few tournaments a year with random partners and no practice. Many doubles specialists end up that way because they couldn’t make it on tour in singles. Rafa would be excellent in doubles if it was his focus and there are many more. Of course the GOAT is Johnny Mac who was #1 in both in an era where guys played both more regularly.

@@eincan1313 true and its second time in a row madrid doubles is won by singles pair, they dont even need to play often,if the pairing is constant then the co ordination and skills will automatically kick in and they ll beat any regular doubles players ! for example rublev and karen paired up a few events continuously and were actually in the race for turin in doubles mid year

They are trialing a new doubles format with no-ad scoring. At deuce, the next point decides the game. It’s meant to speed up play so that there isn’t long games dragged out from constant deuces.

Doubles is so weird. These guys had never played a match together before this tournament, and they come as the lowest "seed" needing to beat the 1 seed on the first round, and what they do? They drop 1 set the whole tournament. So weird.

How odd that the players with a good view of the mark on clay don't see it as well as someone on CZcams. It's almost like the fps, resolution, and angle don't give an accurate view.

I need to understand how men's doubles specialists can be beaten by men's singles specialists.

Because doubles is where failed singles players go, it's not surprising.
You'll usually only see it on clay and sometimes on really fast courts with big servers but it's comparatively rare for singles guys to make it past the first few rounds at the big events. Even if you're a bit of a bot, as long as you can serve big in doubles, you can hang with even the best specialists. That's kind of a weakness to high-level doubles. Serves matter even more than they do in singles.
@@Jingoa ok very interesting. I think that really implies that singles players are generally "better" than doubles players. I have always thought that doubles (in tennis) were less interesting but this has never been more true now. In badminton for example, singles specialists are not supposed to have a chance against top doubles players.
Well most doubles players don’t play doubles by choice they just couldn’t make it on the singles tour. I’m sure they’d rather be earning big money on the singles tour. Singles players are all around better
