Meteorite finds near Berlin: From space to the museum - Museum Evolution

- What a thriller! For days, a team led by geoscientist Lutz Hecht from the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin searched for remains of the asteroid 2024 BX1 in Brandenburg. Initially without success as the finds that we have now examined in our museum's own research laboratories are very special. So they don't correspond to what you would normally look for when searching for meteorites!
According to analyses, the meteor has a rare composition of the "Aubrite" type - a rarity in museum collections to date! Particularly important for the classification: the Aubrite, where this material was first described, is also in our research collection. This is also why we were able to make a rough classification relatively quickly - and are now continuing to research what galactic knowledge our new addition carries.

Der größte Witz wäre noch, dass
all die Menschen in den 5 Tagen
ein paarmal am richtigen Objekt
vorbei marschiert sind, ohne es
zu wissen ... ist manchmal schon
ganz gut, wenn man's im Nach-
hinein nie erfährt, sonst wäre das
Frustrationslevel doppelt so hoch!
Da wir die ersten Stücken an einem Ort gefunden haben, an dem wir bereits gesucht haben wissen wir, dass wir daran vorbeigelaufen sind 😅
