People can't use the "killing curse" all the time because it requires a great amount of malicious emotions and intent specifically directed toward the target in order for it to work. In Goblet of Fire, Professor Moody explains in the classroom that if every one of the students in the room tried to use it on him, they'd basically manage nothing so much as a breeze blowing at him.

About that "Dumbledore said calmly" thing:
In the Books Dumbledore is always portrayed as this calm person who always seems to be in control of any situation.
Even when he is serious he is still very calm. He just changes his aura from nice and wise grandpa to very terrifying.
In the movie when he asks Harry whether he put his name in the goblet, he does so very aggressively and pushes Harry even against a wall.
In the books he is very calm and collected while asking. And when Harry denies, he basically sais that he thought so and never truely believed that Harry threw his own name in the goblet.
It's a meme because movie Dumbledore is so drasticly different from book Dumbledore. Especially in that specific scene.

In Movie version they show Dumbledore very less powerful. Here is the book version in short. Please read it
“But Master - he is here - he is below -”
Voldemort paid no attention. AVADA KEDAVRA!”
Harry had not even opened his mouth to resist. His mind was
blank, his wand pointing uselessly at the floor.
But the headless golden statue of the wizard in the fountain had
sprung alive, leaping from its plinth, and landed on the floor with a
crash between Harry and Voldemort. The spell merely glanced off its
chest as the statue flung out its arms, protecting Harry.
“What - ?” said Voldemort, staring around. And then he
    breathed, “Dumbledore!”
Voldemort raised his wand and sent another jet of green light at
    Dumbledore, who turned and was gone in a whirling of his cloak;
next second he had reappeared behind Voldemort and waved his
wand toward the remnants of the fountain; the other statues sprang to
life too. The statue of the witch ran at Bellatrix, who screamed and
sent spells streaming uselessly off its chest, before it dived at her, pin-
ning her to the floor. Meanwhile, the goblin and the house-elf scuttled
toward the fireplaces set along the wall, and the one-armed centaur
galloped at Voldemort, who vanished and reappeared beside the pool.
The headless statue thrust Harry backward, away from the fight, as
Dumbledore advanced on Voldemort and the golden centaur can-
    tered around them both.
“You do not seek to kill me, Dumbledore?” called Voldemort, his
scarlet eyes narrowed over the top of the shield. “Above such brutality,
    are you?”
“We both know that there are other ways of destroying a man,
Tom,” Dumbledore said calmly, continuing to walk toward Volde-
mort as though he had not a fear in the world, as though nothing had
happened to interrupt his stroll up the hall. “Merely taking your life
would not satisfy me, I admit -”
“There is nothing worse than death, Dumbledore!” snarled
    Voldemort.
    “You are quite wrong,”
    “Indeed, your failure to un-
derstand that there are things much worse than death has always been
    your greatest weakness -”
Dumbledore never failed down in book version. Voldemort was nervous entirely while face Dumbledore. Voldemort go inside Harry coz he failed to face Dumbledore.

Fun fact: this movie takes place in 1995 and begins with a reporter saying that it's "too hot" and that there's a drought going on. And there was actually a heat wave and a drought at the United Kingdom that time, so the movie was very accurate about it.

6:25 I dislike how the movies did it. This one was a turning point for Dursleys. Where Vernon was furious - Petunia understood what Dementors were. And then she got a letter from Dumbledore - reminding her of what she has promised by taking Harry in. One of the few moments where she sternly goes against Vernon and tells Harry to go to his room. It's also much less comedic, as Dudley was seriously affected - especially as he was close to getting kissed. This becomes the moment when Dudley starts treating Harry well, because he basically got saved by him.
6:40 The only thing they got ok, was that Petunia was terrified - they were never supposed to be in actual danger and here she almost lost her son.
9:50 Also sad they cut out portrait of Sirius' mother. After Tonks stumbles - she wakes up Mrs. Black who starts screaming slurs right and left.
26:20 They also totally cut the part where Ron and Hermione were picked to be Prefects for Griffindor. Cause this whole argument happened in their bedroom and Ron was totally about to abuse his new power to defend Harry.
27:25 Another change movie made/got wrong - only one Patil twin was in Griffindor, the other one should be wearing blue tie as Ravenclaw.
    30:15 Such amazing acting.
38:30 So Umbridge is like Niel - extremely racist against non-humans and magical creatures (that's why she treats Hagrid badly and questions Flitwick's parentage - cause he could be half goblin/elf). This scene is even better in books, because Umbridge is ready to hire another Ministry employee instead of Trelawney. But as Dumbledore had to get notice of her dismissal - the moment Umbridge kicks her out he hires new teacher. The best part is that it's the centaur from the first movie - being the worst nightmare for Umbridge.

Yes, Kreacher is not Dobby. However, Dobby, the house-elf, does appear as a recurring character in every book after his introduction in Chamber of Secrets (excluding year 3-Prisoner of Azkaban). Unfortunately, his ongoing side plot and adventures, along with numerous other elements such as quidditch matches, different classes, events, and backstories of various characters, were omitted from each of the movies.
For instance, Percy Weasley appeared in the first three movies as a Prefect (the head house boy in the first two movies) but was absent from the remaining films because his character graduated in Prisoner of Azkaban. In the books, Percy's story continues with his defection from the Weasley family due to ridicule for their benevolent nature and lack of ambition, despite being pure bloods (and member of the "Sacred 28" pure bloods no less). After the last Goblet of Fire, he was hired by Fudge for a junior position to gain a connection to Harry and Dumbledore; though due to his naive arrogance, Percy believed the job position was gained solely through merit.
So we miss Percy's falling out with family, the argument with his father (who called him out and even flat-out told Percy why Cornelius Fudge hired him), his attitude towards his younger brothers, and his unpleasant behavior toward his mother. He was even writing to Ron and Ginny, trying to convince them to ditch Harry. His appearance alongside Dolores Umbridge and the Minister of Magic is seen as a final act of betrayal, and the whole family (minus the mom-who is always in tears) wrote him off after that. This depth in Percy's character was cut from the movies, although he does make an appearance in Order of the Phoenix. Most people recognize the actor as the redhead holding Harry at 1:01:42. He was also in the background behind Cornelius and other scenes and can be seen as the scribe in Harry's Ministry trial.
The fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort was far more dynamic, as rather than being stationary, they were apparating (teleporting) around and Blasting each other with spells, bringing statues to life, and all sorts of other things which would have quite frankly destroyed the movie's budget.
In a similar vein, during the encounter when Ministry Aurors went to confront Dumbledore in his office, he displayed incredible prowess by defeating all of them in a duel single-handedly. Afterwards, he escaped by teleporting away with Fawkes.

It's absolutely brutal and makes us hate Umbridge and the Ministry more.
Also it's super annoying that Percy's subplot got cutoff since we miss one of the best scenes in the seventh book. "Minister, I think I'll resign!"

Belatrix's other sister is Narissa Malfoy and Sirius had a brother who is dead. Avada Kedava is not intially used as it has to be verbally cast and has 6 syllibles. A non-verbal, shorter syllible spell would beat you before you completed the curse (see 2nd film ending where Lucius is beaten by Dobby as he tries to cast the spell on Harry). Something about Unforgivable Curses: they are not just forbidden, they are extremely hard to cast. With all the magic here you not just point with a wand and say some words, it's complicated process and some spells are easier, some spells are harder to produce (that's why you need study magic and that's why there are like "levels": smth that first-years could do and smth that not every grown-ups can perform). And for real killing, or torturing or even controlling people is very very hard, and for the spell works wizard FOR REAL need to mean take someones life, need to fully understand it and have no guilt. And those direct evil-act-levels are not always reachable even for "bad wizards".
So that's why not just everyone, but even not every Death Eater use Unforgivable Curses. (And also that is why those curses are unforgivable and lead you straight to Azkaban: if you can cast them on humans - you are freaking maniac and already proved yourself guilty).
    Hope that helped.

I don't know if anyone has explained why the muggles don't notice the magic, but in the book a big part of this is explained away as areas that are high traffic magic having anti-muggle / anti-detection charms on them. So for example - not anyone can just wander into hogwarts if they haven't been accepted / invited. If a muggle, or even another wizard, were to stumble upon the location of hogwarts, it would look like smoldering pile of rubble or something equally as unappealing, and they would feel a strong urge to look away or turn around or suddenly feel like they had an urgent appointment to get to. That's how most of the areas with magic work. So the muggles don't notice them going onto platform 9-3/4 or the knight bus going through town or any of the magic things that occur around them, because there are anti-detection charms in place.

  • @NateLeonhart

    Some stuff that weren't adapted:
The full prophecy is "The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches... Born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies... and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not... and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives... The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies...". Thing is, the prophecy could very well have been about Neville, as he also matched the first two conditions. It was only when Voldy attacked Harry (the third condition) that the prophecy being about him and Harry was set in stone. Also, the person that made the prophecy was Trelawny, thus why Dumbledore was so insistent that she remain in the castle.
A Death Eater overheard the prophecy and told Voldy, which is why he attacked the Potters. He chose Harry instead of Neville as Harry was a Half-Blood, just like himself. Thing is, the Death Eater only heard half of the prophecy, which is why Voldy has been trying to get it so badly all year. He wanted to know what else it said, to ensure he would not make the same mistake again.
There is a bit more to Snape's memory that was left out. As he was being bullied, Lily (Harry's mum) came to Snape's rescue, chastising James for ganging up on Snape. Snape, in his anger and embarrassment, retorted that he didn't need help from a mudblood. Harry later found out from Sirius and Lupin that James matured after this and while his rivalry with Snape continued, he stopped bullying him and eventually managed to redeem himself in Lily's eyes, thus beginning their relationship.
Neville's parents were tortured into insanity by a group of Death Eaters that included both Bellatrix Lestrange and Barty Crouch. Bellatrix was the ringleader of the group. Neville's parents are now permanent residents in St Mungo's Hospital of Magical Maladies in the ward for those permanent spell damage. Neville visits them with his grandmother every year, but they don't recognise him. Also, Lockhart's there as well.
Harry had won 1000 Galleons for winning the Triwizard Tournament the previous year, which he gave to Fred and George entirely. By the time they ditch Hogwarts, they've already secured premises at Diagon Alley for their joke shop.
Percy had a terrible falling out with his family, as he chose to believe the Ministry over Dumbledore. This mostly came as a result of anger at his father for telling him that being promoted to Junior Minister was not by his own merit, but to use him as a spy and embarrassment at his father choosing to continue working such a mundane, low-paying job, essentially believing that his father was scoffing at his ambition while having no ambition of his own.

The Weasley twins were, in fact, not expelled for the fireworks stunt. In the book, they officially withdrew themselves from school before engaging in their grand exodus. To be expelled from school includes having your wand confiscated, broken, and you no longer being allowed to practice magic. Hagrid was expelled during the first chamber of secrets fiasco. In the first installment, he ignited the fire with an umbrella that had his broken wand hidden inside. Then he told Harry, "strictly speaking, I'm not supposed to do magic." It's also why Hermione, after first encountering Fluffy, said something like, "...before one of you have another cleaver idea that gets us killed. Or worse, expelled."

James was not as bad as Malfoy and Snape wasn't always alone. He had all of his Slytherin friends who all became Death Eaters the same as Snape. James was a conceited a** as a kid but he did change and even saved Snape's life at one time when Sirius pulled a nasty, potentially deadly trick on Snape.

The reason Harry doesn't want to tell Dumbledore about Umbridge's torture, is because she represents the Ministry. The Ministry has the power to change rules at Hogwarts, and also to fire Dumbledore if they want to. They have all the power. By telling Dumbledore, Dumbledore would have stepped in, and the Ministry would have interpreted that as opposing the Ministry and gotten the excuse they needed and were searching for, to fire Dumbledore. You saw how quickly the Ministry interfered once McGonagall spoke up against her methods. Harry is fully aware of this, so he keeps quiet and continues to let himself be tortured daily to protect Dumbledore. Like he said, "What ever this is, it is anything but simple". He knows how important it is to keep Dumbledore at Hogwarts, so he endures it to not get Dumbledore in trouble.

1:27:09 About the fight btw dumbledor and Voldemort, in the books dumbledor is clearly more powerful (he was literally toying with Voldemort) but as the movie begun to greatly differentiate themselves from the books, they have to make voldemort more powerful in the movie for keeping their story consistent for the next movies. Some fans trying to apply the book logic to this scene always make me laugh. We clearly see that voldemort had the upper hand (dumbledor literally finish this fight on the floor in the movie version) + the famous « dumbledor didn’t try to kill him » (in the books he didn’t) but dumbledor literally try to drown Voldemort in this fight, if that’s not a murder attempt I don’t know what it is. And finally in the books Harry’s possession by Tom (Voldemort) at the end of the fight is a lame ass move he did while trying to flee bc he lost but in the movie it’s more like an ultimate insult directly to dumbledor to try to assert his dominance to him, that’s why possessed harry said: « you lost old man ». I will always say that’s a fucking A.D.A.P.T.A.T.I.O.N, since the fourth movie the story takes a real turn about the characters. Book Dumbledor and Movie Dumbledor ARE NOT the same characters (the same goes to Voldemort)👍🏿

That whole "...Dumbledore says calmly..." is a run on joke among fans of the books. Goblet of Fire is the point where the producers of the Harry Potter movies not only leave a lot of things out (for good reason because the novel is super long) but they also change certain moments. Dumbledore was always a very calm, cool and collective person through out the series. Even when in a dangerous situation he alway spoke with a level head. So the fact that they protrayed him as someone blowing his top, loosing his cool and acting so aggressively is way out of character. Dumbledore is calculating and carefully analyzes all situations. He doesn't explodes with emotions. Even if there is a good reason to do so it's just not what he does.

Everything Harry heard about his father up until now was from his friends, so of course he had a spotless image in his head. But here he saw his father was a bully, and came to realize that his parents were also just people and not the perfect martyrs and parents of the chosen one. In fact we know very little about his father and mother, I think a lot of people just have many headcanons about them instead. They died really young too.
Someone surely mentioned it under the Prisoner of Azkaban video, that the fact why Snape is so focused on revenge against Sirius is the fact that yes, James and Sirius (two very wealthy, popular boys) were his main bullies while Remus Lupin did not stop them, but Sirius also sent Snape as a "prank" into the Shrieking Shack where Lupin was during his werewolf phase. It's just so funny right... Lupin would either kill Snape or turned him into a werewolf too, and idk how he would feel about that when he would came to himself again. I just think the Marauders are too glorified by HP fans, I think it's much more interesting to read them as flawed and human characters.

The killing curse it not that simple. Actually, any spell you must be willing to do it so it works. Like really willing.

What I really dislike about the movie is that they made the Dumbledore vs Voldemort fight look even and makes new people get worried about Dumbledore when in the books Voldemort could barely handle him. Dumbledore was way more powerful and he was the reason why Voldemort could not just simply attack Hogwarts.

The thing I dislike about this movie is how they changed the story to have Umbridge break into the room of requirement. It's impossible to break in. The room exists in an extra-dimensional space. She'd simply be blasting out a Hogwarts wall for nothing.
