The averages vary from country to country, but where I live, an employer will spend around 47 seconds reading a CV, that's the first big "triage". 1.2 minutes reading the associated letter is the second. It then goes for 7 minutes of scouring the internet. And only after those three will he send out invitations for job interviews. If you're facing Jessica who loves to knit and Josh who's volunteering at church, while you spend your week-ends having a laugh with friends at the local bar (not even talking about getting drunk), the first thing that will come in mind is "he may have a hangover on monday. Or try to get out early on fridays or saturdays. I'll go with Josh or Jessica". Obviously it depends on the type of business etc, but for your basic office job, that's it.
