I’m just gonna to come right out and say it: EVA Air premium economy is very good. Of course, I sort of knew it would be, since I have flown EVA once before (years ago) on a regional business class flight - which was fantastic.
This particular flight, an 11.5 hour long haul segment from Taipei to Los Angeles, lived up to every single one of the very high expectations I had set in my mind ahead of time. The food was great, the seats spacious and comfortable, and the crew top-notch.
This is footage from flight number 6 back in early March 2020. I had seat 24D and the aircraft registration was B-16729.

Flew with Eva Air PE in B747 in 2007, from KUL to TPE. The legroom is great!

NEVER apologize for an aisle seat! Those of us (even avgeeks like me) that travel a lot...some of us like (have to) sit in aisles because of older bladders. It was actually real nice to see a report from a different perspective! THANKS! Would love to see aisle seat reports periodically!
I echo this statement. While I like window seats for the view, I use the restroom far too much to put my neighbour through that. I also feel less cramped in an aisle seat.
Most "average" guys have broad shoulders making window seats on flights over a couple hours miserable (unless we are with our wife)! I echo my statement...never apologize for an aisle seat.
same here, extra leg/arm room, plus can walk around & stretch without disturbing other passengers.

I flew EVA back in 99 in W, great flight, looks to be the same high standard, probably the 3rd best I had flown after Air New Zealand and BMI.
EVA Premium Economy is a hidden gem, we've flown it a few times now between Asia and Canada... haven't tried the signature cocktail yet though! Love the content by the way, looking forward to us to all being able to fly again soon

Hi Scott, thanks for another awesome review!! BTW, cold fresh towel is the standard product for EVA's PE. Hot towel only served to Business class. :)
I've flown EVA on the LHR-BKK route a few times, twice in Premium Economy (late 2019 being the latest round trip). The crews are always attentive and helpful.
The additional cost is definitely worth paying if you can stretch to it.
Currently trying to find a review of their First Class, as I'm hoping to make one final one-way journey next year and see outmy days in the hills of northern Thailand, and that might be a nice way to round off my long haul travels :)
They don't have a first class section anymore, only business class. It was changed after the airline switched to 777 configuration.

Excellent trip report! The cabin was beautiful with moodlighting. The meals were quite good. Their PE seats look comfortable

I few EVA Premium Economy from 2005 to 2012 visiting my Married Friend in the Philippines. Very good seats and service. Also the price from Economy to Premium was a small amount compared to Now.

Flew EVA Premium Economy few times last time was couple weeks after this video was recorded. TPE-SEA. Love the spacious seat and service. However I found the angle of the leg rest little uncomfortable for my legs. Maybe an inch or two higher would have been perfect
Your channel is one of the best produced and coolest airline review channels. I love the graphic at the start of the video, that says some facts about the flight, it looks like a boarding pass, so cool!

@@sanspotter My one regret of my sole trip to SAN was that I never made it to a taco stand. A video of how a tourist would get to the best taco stand(s) would have help for the future! Haha
I used to grab up exit row seat by arriving early at O'Hare..Now their is no guarantee you'll get it even if arriving early. I'll have to get the premium economy and Ambian. Since I can't sleep on planes easily for 13.5 hours plus to Taipai.

Smart man ! Always go with the Asian selection vs. the Western version on Asian airlines.
They do a better job bc of more knowledge and experience.
This product does seem to be a better value vs. China Airlines, their fellow Taiwanese competitor.
Looks like Eva has upped their game once again bc their meals portions occupy the entire tray vs. skimpy ones on China Airlines.
You were fortunate to travel right before the shutdown.
Now it's a hassle going back to Taiwan with all the Covid testing and mandatory quarantine, which shows no easing.
That cabin is gorgeous! Totally dig it.
I've got a flight in business class from Taipei to Chicago in July. Hopefully, the coronavirus situation has settled down by then and Taiwan will be allowing transits again and inflight service isn't scaled back too much. I hear EVA Air's business class is one of the best in the world! Have you flown it?

Worth pointing out: Priority Pass holders no longer have access to Plaza Premium lounges. Believe Plaza Premium dumped PP in July, 2021. One can use either DragonPass or Plaza Premium's own membership program to the enter those lounges now.

used to fly eva air premium elite all the time from LAX to Thailand and back. Notice the seats are now completely different. Before all the seats reclined and had foot rests. Now they do not have foot rests. They just have things on the back of the seat in front of you. Just horrible change
I love love love Taipei and it's gorgeous airport, indeed everyone is SO friendly and it's such a beautiful airport. 😊 Food selection is great even for folks who don't have access to the lounge. I also bounced around the different themed lounges lol! Great way to pass the time. We don't believe you though, that was totally your pink carry on. 😛

EVA needs to improve its premium economy seats, there are no calf and foot rest built into the seats!

A small peice of constructive criticism for you.
I think SurfShark VPN is the best VPN by far, it’s one of the cheapest, fast, it has servers all over the world, works in China, works with Netflix, they don’t keep logs, you can have unlimited devices on one account etc. And I would totally agree with you in recommending the use of a VPN. However, I felt the reasons you gave for using a VPN were a little bit misleading.
You said that you’d be foolish to sign into anything where your transmitting personal data [on public WiFi], implying that when using public WiFi, your personal data will be sent through the air, and anyone could intercept it on the way. The thing is this isn’t true anymore because of protocols like httpS, which encrypts the data between your browser and the website server, anyone intercepting this data wouldn’t be able to see your personal details, they’d only be able to see what website your accessing. And banking apps especially, will make sure they are using a secure connection, they won’t work at all if they are unable to use a secure connection.
I don’t mean to criticise too much, I think it’s good to recommend a VPN, and your recommending a really great one but I think there are better reasons to use a VPN, including the ability to get cheaper flights if you book them from a different region.
Other than that I love your videos, so high quality and your commentary makes it so entertaining.
TL;DR, VPNs usually aren’t necessary for a secure WiFi connection these days.

EVA Air is a very good service airlines, and it's ranking no.6 best airlines in the world in 2019.
We also have China airlines, it's our national airlines, it's ranking no.39 best airlines in 2019.
Both those Taiwanese airlines are very good.
The legroom alone would be worth a higher ticket price on a long haul.

Flown YVR-TPE-DPS route with EVA numerous times and very satisfied with aircraft and flight service. I moved to China Air taking same route as I like the long haul A350 compared to B777. Eva now runs B787 of which I'll try catching sometime when restrictions are lifted and world gets back into shape. Always shop for scotch waiting in Taipei for flight to Denpasar, Bali
Yeah, I am very much looking forward to trying the EVA 787 as well. Hopefully sooner rather than later…

Hey SANSpotter! Love your work and an avid follower! Quick question - do you remember if the middle premium economy seats have arm rests that go up or all they all fixed? Just asking as my family with a toddler are looking at options to Taiwan and would like to give the little one space to lay down if we can pull up the arm rests in the middle 4 seats.

Very funny review as always Scott...face masks everywhere I see...but in many parts of Asia that has been the norm for years. Eva have a very good reputation!! A whole row to your self...now that is a bonus !! A window seat is always great...providing you do not have to clamber of someone's feet to go for a walk !! I some times prefer the aisle seat in the middle anyway especially if it is an over night flight !! Food looked good too !! Well done as always Scott...stay safe mate in these most uncertain of times and hopefully you will be back in the air...but god knows when !! And well done EVA Air...excellent product..!!

Warning!!! If you plan on booking a flight with EVA from the U.S. to Southeast Asia, don't do it. You will be waisting your time. Over the past year, I have booked two flights on EVA Air to Thailand, with stops in Taipei, Taiwan.............. and both were cancelled??? I am assuming that they are not busy enough to fill the plane, so they just cancel the flight and leave travelers hanging.
