Scottish violinist Nicola Benedetti is an international sensation at just 25 years old. Her new album, "The Silver Violin" -- celebrating film music of composers from the 1930s to today -- has been hailed as a perfect combination of serious musicianship and great entertainment.
Named Best Female Artist at the 2012 Classic Brits, Benedetti gave her only New York concert of the season at The Greene Space on February 22, 2013, performing repertoire from the album including music from "Schindler's List" (John Williams), "The Gadfly" (Shostakovich), "Scent of a Woman" (Carlos Gardel) and "Eastern Promises" (Howard Shore), which was written for her.
WQXR's Jeff Spurgeon hosted a night of movie music and conversation which included a special guest appearance by Academy Award-winning film composer Howard Shore. The event was broadcast live on WQXR 105.9 FM and video webcast live at WQXR.org.

This was my dear Dads favourite piece of music. I had it played at his funeral just a few days ago 🥹 I smile when I hear it as I can see his beautiful smile once again xx
Indeed a wonderful final audieu
That’s really sweet! I love to see classical music being enjoyed on more personal level, as it really brings people together.
My God, this is beautiful. Humans can't be lost if we can make this music.
One of my favorite pieces! Superb performance! Exquisite!
Absolutely beautiful !Nicki ,your vibrato sends shivers down my spine.I close my eyes and fall in love wuthevery note you play.Love you.
Wow! Perfection!
Hauntingly beautiful.
Makes me wanna cry my heart out.
2:34 the only one
Superb rendition .amongst my favourites
Heavenly music played exquisitely, thank you so much Nicki.
Absolutely fantastic, so great, Alan Perry
Words fail really...
Superb with such feeling .
Superb performance of a lovely 😊 heavenly melody. I love 💕 it.😍😍😍😍😍😍
Who would dislike this? It's beautiful!
There's something slightly melancholic about this beautiful music. Nikola's playing is absolutely superb. If it were a painting, I would describe it as Hopperesque.
This was used as the music for "Reilly Ace of Spies", the best spy TV series ever. Superb series, superb music.
Agreed wholeheartedly, sir.
Reilly ace of spies is on utube
Lovely music well played
Beautiful playing Nicola.!!!!!
Superb!!
Beautiful!!!
It's a great performance!
just beautiful
This is perhaps my favorite piece by Nikola. very beautiful!
tearing piece
Stunningly beautiful!! Thanks a million.
Wonderful talent !
Fantastic
Bravooo
Прелесть! Спасибо! ❤❤❤
impeccable rendition, If the pianist had the set the pace slightly slower to really bring out the emotion, as I feel this piece expects some lingering since it's so emotional, it would have been perfect
Oxh she's wonderful
Perfection
Wow that was sweet.
Always remember this as Reily ace of spies...
When my viola gently weeps...
Such violinists are a lot around but Russian composer is one of the kind
Very beautiful music. Where can I find the sheet music? The ones I found are all different arrangements.
If I'm wrong naturally i'll stand corrected, but is a studio ( or small venue like this) the wrong stage &setting for this beautiful piece of music, because of the acoustics, which are not so complimentary?
Nice but just a little too fast for me
Yes.
!!!
The piano was a little too loud. More dynamics would have made it better.
I agree about the piano but I don't know what "more dynamics" means and I am a physicist.
@@MrSidTaylor dynamics has to do with loudness and softness. I can understand why you were unsure about the term seeing that "thermodynamics" must be part of your active vocabulary haha...
@@brandonchai9318 I am a pianist and I play this with my daughter and yest the piano is a bit too loud. There is another vid here with a talented 13 yo playing this and the piano almost ruined it
What???? The violin was as loud as the piano. They harmonized perfectly. I think we have to hear both. Otherwise why have the piano at all. It wasn't a violin solo after all!
Gadfly by brassbamd
Louder
from Dunsinane?
its not the Gadfly Suite, its Romance.
Yes and no. The Romance is part of the Gadfly Suite composed for the 1955 Soviet film "The Gadfly".
I prefer Jonathan Carney's version
It's a Romance...that's a lot of sound and speed for a romance...Perhaps the youthful Nicola had yet to mature enough to understand what this Romance means to Shostakovich.
Lolz. She is scottish. Scottish romance is loud and fast.
Too short a cameo.
Rushed. Beautiful, but rushed.
Agreed!
Too much coffee...
She always seems to play this piece much too quickly.
You clearly don’t know this piece or Shostakovich
@@english09projects you clearly don't know what the actual fuck you are talking about. Try this far superior performance of this piece and perhaps you will understand: czcams.com/video/-sBKW7jMyLM/video.html
I felt kind of sorry for the pianist, stuck in the dark, doing rythm.
I think its terrible ... there are many better versions of this . The accompaniment is shocking . the violinist is playing with no sensitivity It sounds mechanical.
fuck off
Idiotic to misinterpret her performance in such a negative light.
You seem to have very little musical sense.
@Ian Finlayson this is a much better version czcams.com/video/Q0Xfyn0-YhU/video.html
I agree. It's out of tuned and no nuances...so much sound and speed...
