How to Beat Dark Souls 2 in 69 Minutes - Any% Speedrun with Walkthrough Commentary

After all these years ranking the Hardest, Easiest, Best, and Worst Bosses in Dark Souls, I've been working on Dark Souls speedruns and a speedrun tutorial for Dark Souls 2. Today I have finally completed that Dark Souls 2 speedrun in just over 1 hour, and I'm here to deliver the run with walkthrough commentary in case you'd like to try it out for yourself.
I set out on a goal to reach of under 1 hour, but thanks to a lot of miscellaenous deaths, I threw in the towel after nearly 100 attempts with 1 1:01:20. In the future, I'd love to try again, and maybe even do the Dark Souls 2 All Bosses speedrun! When fighting the rotten, you can see a body on the rottens shoulder that mimics his attacks which is kinda cool

@@Tony-The-Motherfucking-Tiger actually it’s supposed to be Pharros as chopping off the rottens left arm makes it drop a pharros’s lock stone. Pharros is also controlling the rotten as the rotten does everything Pharros does but a second later. If you look at him it actually makes the fight a lot easier as you can predict the rottens attacks

I made a new DS2 character (3rd all in all) and tried to follow this guide. The 69 minute run by our good friend stretched into 20h32min51sec for me, but in the end I beat this dreaded game! ;D This really proved to me how advanced and indepth the playstyle of speedrunners is, micro movements and micromanaging so many precise parts is simply things on another level compared to someone who just began. (even with DS1 exprience) A Fantastic run @theDeModcracy good Sir, thank you for the detailed guidance.

I dont care what anyone says I LOVE Dark Souls 2. Its one of the beat RPG's I've played, and has a special place as the first souls game I have evwr played through to completion. Not to mention the core story is great (especially with DLC)

Remaster? Demon's Souls needs a proper REMAKE; Just a graphical bump will not make it for me; It need a lot of Quality of Life improvements.

@roger kle honestly i agree. a lot of people want updated graphics and a new upgrade system but i think you miss the point. just like dark souls remastered, that game isn't for the people who already played it. it's for people like me, someone who has gotten into the souls series about two years ago and therefore never had the chance to play demon souls. sure, cool new graphics on sekiro level and an easier upgrade system and a more explained world shifting system and no equip load would be cool, on the other hand it feels kinda weird taking an old classic game and "upgrading" it, implying that there is something wrong with the original. that's the same problem people had with the lion king remaster: if something isn't broken, don't fix it. especially if it is a classic that had a lot of cultural impact and has a dear place in the hearts of many fans.

The Bosses in 2 are not the best, but the World and all these Monsters, Hidden Doors and Traps are amazing.

Grimmer took me 72 hours including all DLC’s. All bosses and trying to get every item, its probably the longest of the souls games.

On the note of grammatical shenanigans, "ascetic" most often refers to a person, so the item itself makes little sense on first glance. If it was used as an adjective to describe the bonfire it should say "ascetic bonfire" to be technically correct. But are you really carrying a bonfire around? Still strange.

To be fair Ascetisism is about self-denial as a form of spiritual or personal discipline so it makes SOME sense for flavor.

Play Augur of Darkness: It’s a new mod for DS2 that came out that changes parts of the MAP and enemy spawns. The terrain literally changes. It’s amazing

I love the world of Dark souls 2. In dark souls 3 the world feels waaayy too linear. Like i feel I have no choices on where to go, where as in 2 i feel like i can explore. But Dark souls 3 has the best combat feel. Since its the latest.
DS 1 lore and interconnectivity, DS 2 open exploration and fashion souls, DS 3 combat.
All three games are incredible to me. I’m glad 1 is primitive in feel, I’m glad 2 is Jank, I’m glad 3 is great in combat and shows a dying world, I’m glad bloodborne and Sekiro are so different. I can marathon these games and never get bored, and by the time I finish Sekiro I’m ready for Demon’s souls again. Favorites don’t matter, these games are quality.

And not to mention you can skip huge chunks of the first half of DS2 by getting a large souls memory, instead of getting the four lords souls. DS3 is a straight path with like two forks (Carthus, Cathedral; Dungeon, Anor) Going to Lothric early is meaningless as you can’t actually go to Grand archives. You still have to do the rest of the game, you can just grab some chunks from Lothric and Garden.

Dark souls 2 has linear levels but usually a few paths (that don’t connect) you can go. Dark souls 3 has much better level design imo. Like most levels are better and open where’s 2 is pretty straight forward.

I wish I didn't hate Dark Souls 2 as much as I do. I never played the original, only SotFS so that may have something to do with it. I love all the other games but this one just pissed me off.
Arbiter I am the opposite, I hated the original DS2 but I loved SotFS. With DS1 and the “Remastered” version of it, it was the opposite. I loved the original but hated the “remaster”.

@@lkurkiril1731 Scholar of the First Sin. It's the Dark Souls 2 "complete edition" except they changed a lot of enemy and item placements. I just hate how every single area is chock full of enemies, you're always getting ganked by 3 or more enemies with a large aggro range and they follow you over huge distances.
Arbiter I only played SoTFS, I really enjoyed it. But I was able to recognize the issues with it and its technical inferiority to other souls games, so I can totally understand why somebody wouldn’t like it as much.
Also it made me even more mad when I found out o watched a youtuber get something in the regular version and I had sotfs and I tried to get it ds2 is an enjoyable game but they spammed enemies every five steps

From a story perspective, no. From a gameplay perspective, yes. It is more fast paced than 1 or 2, and you have more control over your character and is generally more forgiving. However, the DLC has some of the hardest, least forgiving areas and bosses I've seen in a game. The DLC is great, but it has a massive difficulty spike from the main game.

Dark Souls 2's first area + Majula are better than the beginnings of the other Soulsborne games (except Demon Souls cuz idk) because of their desing and the music

@LeadFaun I personally find Majula's theme so relaxing and peaceful for a place you have to come a lot to "pause" your playtrough and it just makes me so calm, I could spend hours in Majula listening to its soundtrack

Dude in my opinion its the best in the series because first of all it has way more build variety has the best/most changes in its ng plus, again in my opinion it has the most and the bosses are not to tanky unlike the bosses in ds3 where most bosses are tanky af and you can say ancient drag is but you don't need to kill him at all and his health is no were near as much as mider and if I need to say more i will lol

Bosses aren’t tanky, they’re ganky and lack any interesting design and the rest of the game spits on anything that made the other souls games fun and good

Flynns ring damage is actually based on your equip load stat, meaning that you get max damage from it at 10 vitality and below
