I can't help but find it funny how in the prior game, Gerrel is set up as the "nice" admiral, and Korris is set up as the "jerk" admiral, only for it to turn out that Gerrel is the "jerk" and Korris is the "nice guy".
I wouldn't reduce them to simple adjectives like "nice" and "jerk", they're both militaristic but I think you can boil it down to them changing a bit over time between ME2 and ME3 plus the situation they're in where one is going to behave more aggressively than the other, but their actions are still in-character, Gerrel doesn't like the geth and wants to fight them, Koris showed that he wasn't that bad of a guy if you talk to him in ME2 when he sympathized with the geth (a "geth apologist" as Gerrel called him) and doesn't want to fight.
Gerrel in ME2 just stands for war, Tali's warlike father and herself then. Vice versa for Korris. Just in ME3 you happen to get on the other side of conflict.
Honestly, talking with Korris in ME2, he just sounded overly pacifist and disgusted by everyone else's cruelty. I ended my conversation with him with some respect
First time I ever felt the renegade option was the only good option. Thats like someone shooting you in the arm and the paragon option being: Nah it'll heal
One of the bigger reasons Shepard gets away with punching Gerrel is because they're the commanding officer of the Normandy, and if there's one thing the Quarians respect it's the Captain's authority in their own ship
This made me LOL so hard. Same here like 9 playthroughs and it's only this time I am looking up, 'Should I NOT rupture this mans spleen and actually try to be professional?' -- NOPE
0:59 quarian neck are flexible alright. aside from that i agree with the renegade answer and the renegade interrupt, gerrel is like a loose cannon and lets old hatred jeopardize the safety. I'd have him demoted to a sergeant or dishonorably discharged
Is anyone else more offended by the fact that if you don’t punch him, he shoves Talía than they are offended by the fact that he fired on them while still in the dreadnaught?
The circumstances changed between games. He was an intelligent, caring general in ME2 because Shepard was defending Tali, whom he liked. He's an "asshat," as you put it, in ME3 because Shepard wanted to make peace with the geth, whom he disliked.
intelligent he was in both games. "caring" not so much. That he showed simpathy for Tali in ME2 doesn't mean you had to like him. In fact in ME2 I couldn't care the less for him for it was clear that he only had war in his mind, and that the only reason he supported Tali was to play political games against Koris... and because she was the daughter of another admiral that was as hard an advocate of war as he was (underscored by how clear it is he doesn't like her AT ALL in ME3 because Tali opposed the war) so obviously he was inclined to defend her. That kind of dude in a position of power is a walking time bomb. Conversely I actually liked Koris in ME2, even if he was calling for the trial on Tali for the wrong reasons, he was still nice to her. Specially if Tali is exiled you see how much he dislikes it to happen. And his reasons, while highly debatable (and in the end wrong) at least had a good foundation, specially given how isolated he was holding his opposition to the war. Xen however was an ass, through and through. Say what you want about the others, at least they didn't lie about their agendas, while Xen was holding cards and not showing what the game was. Also, the email Shepard receives after Tali's father research is recovered just rubbed me the wrong way so much. The only admiral worth a shit in that council was Raan. And obviously Tali if she reaches the rank.
@@ramjb It is worth mentioning that Gerral and Tali's father were also close friends (they'd been shipmates for years, long before either of them became captains or admirals). But, otherwise you are correct, Gerral is the type of soldier who is more concerned with "winning" than anything else.

Almost surprised he didn't hit back; maybe that hammered it into him that he nearly got his people killed under the premise that "mission parameters changed" when in reality he made them change in his favor (ONLY HIS FAVOR) and nearly left the very people he's supposed unprotected. You can't enjoy having your home planet back when your people are under attack, but you chose to focus on only one enemy.

I went with the negative/reprimanding choice, however I did not punch him in the gut. That's wayyy too unproffessional for my Shepard - he/she would know that such action might have jeopardized his/her efforts and cost vital recources like ships, intelligence & technology form the Quarians. Just ( deservingly ) chewed him out without getting physical
It's a glitch I've noticed from time to time in my playthroughs where a character turns its head toward one it is speaking to but ends up doing so beyond what should be possible. It really gets creepy looking if that character is also craning their head up a bit at the same time.
That's the BEST part, it doesn't cost you squat! He'll join up regardless, unless you have the Geth waste the Quarian race in which case I guess it still doesn't matter.
I might be full Paragon but there are some Renegades that are truly worth like this and killing kai leng, i renegade these for 3 reasons, endangering the civillian Quarians and endangering me and my quarian girlfriend.
It's unfortunate that Bioware made the Quarian Admirals extremely one-dimensional in ME3. Gerrel is reduced from a steadfast and hot-headed guy to a senseless warmonger Xen is reduced from a stoic and a little too pragmatic person to an immoral psychopath Raan is reduced from a compassionate and balanced leader to being completely idle and useless in every situation.. Koris turned out to be likable but still very much forgetable because his only purpose is to keep repeating "Quarians are the bad guys and Geth are the good guys." Gerrel and Xen are re-designed to be hated while the other two are re-designed to be irrelevant. The player is conditioned to think that every Quarian besides Tali is not relevant to them. I feel this is an unfair treatment in comparison to Legion, who got humanized by Bioware to no end so the player would sympathize with him and since there are no other Geth to compare him to, people just assume that all Geth are like Legion. What means players practically sympathize with all Geth equally, even though Legion only represents a vast minority of the entire Geth population. Considering that the player is potentially forced to choose who of those two races are going to survive later on, this is a very unbalanced characterization. And it doesn't help that Quarians are painted as the bad guys in pretty much every instance even though they essentially didn't do any more wrong than the Geth.
Couldn’t agree more. Quarians surely are not blameless, but the writers really did them dirty in ME3. I suppose it was done to make the big choice in this game ark (and possibly in the endgame) more difficult than it would have been after ME1 or even ME2.
Yeah the admirals should have still been in character from two cuz I really liked it when Garrel was nice not asshole and reeger should have been part of the battle of Roanok rather than killing him off in a email so stupid this game needs a remake like the Snyder cut cuz there are some things in this game I just cannot stand at all 😡
@@BrianMcKee I know, she was already on her psycho trip in ME2 but she still was more than just that. It also stood out that she was smart and eloquent. But in ME3 the focus is entirely on her being a psycho and constany bothering Shepard with it.

It’s kind of nice because in ME2 they both still believe their idea about the geth and all that’s changed is context
I know it's very ironic.
