    I happened upon some very inexpensive baby velvet yarn in a bin at my grocery store and began searching for what I could do with it! I found your video - just what I needed! I'm not experienced with crochet but I picked it up easily with your tutorial. Thanks again!

    My family is doing a homemade Christmas this year and I thought I'd try out a beginner crochet project. My request, as a super beginner, is a video that tells me how to hold the yarn as I'm working. I'm fumbling all around and it would be super convenient to hear some advice on how to hold the yarn as I'm starting this very first project. 😊 other than that, your explanations are extremely helpful! Thanks so much for taking the time to walk us beginners through this beautiful scarf project!

    • @AmandaCrochets
      @AmandaCrochets  Před 2 lety

      That sounds like an excellent idea for Christmas! The best advice I can give when holding yarn is just to see what feels comfortable for you. Everyone holds the yarn (and even hook) differently, so it's really all about personal preference. For me, I like to have my yarn on the left-hand side of me, and the yarn strand in between my left middle finger and index finger. Basically the yarn is just sitting over my index finger. I hope that helps! I wish you luck on your very first project! How exciting!!

    I love working with this yarn , I made 3 of these but did a little different, love the stitch . I used a K size hook and I crocheted this scarf going lengthwise , I made a chain for however long I wanted it , then crocheted about 12 rows or however wide I wanted it , It worked up in no time at all I also then added on both ends a Pom Pom boarder . It came out so nice . I know I thanked you in in earlier post but thank you again I really do enjoy your tutorials!

    This is absolutely stunning! I’ve never worked with velvet yarn before, but the half double crochet is my favorite stitch so I wanted to try it. I bought this exact yarn, only the color I used was blackbird, to match my coat. Now I’m totally in love with this velvet yarn. I’d love to make a throw blanket with it, in this exact pattern. Could please try and tell me about how many chains I’d need for a small throw? Thank you, Amanda! BTW, your tutorials are the best, and are the only ones I have any success with. 🙂Thanks again!

      Thank you for your kind words! 🥰 I’m so glad you enjoyed this tutorial. Velvet yarn was new to me too, but I loved the feel of it as I was working with it. For the amount of chains, I would maybe try 130-140 chains. You can lay it across your bed to see if this is the width you’d like before continuing with the pattern. Hope it helps!

    Beautiful as always, I have lots of velvet yarn, love it, wondering because bernat velvet is a 5 weight can I just go up a hook size? Or should I buy the baby velvet which I think is a 4 weight Either way I very much want to make this scarf, thanks Merry Christmas to you and yours 😍👍

    • @AmandaCrochets
      @AmandaCrochets  Před 3 lety +1

      You can absolutely use regular bernat velvet yarn. I would use the recommended hook size on the label. If you want your scarf to be the same size as mine, you may want to use less chains, but it’s all personal preference. Merry Christmas to you and your family as well 🎄😊

    I’m having issues with keeping the end stitches aligned together in a straight line. It starts off as my desired length but the more rows I add the smaller it’ll get, making it looking more like a beanie rather than a long scarf 😢

    • @AmandaCrochets
      @AmandaCrochets  Před rokem

      I would use a stitch marker in the very first and last stitch in each row. That way you don’t miss a stitch. As you make more rows, you can move up the stitch markers. Hope that helps!

    • @AmandaCrochets
      @AmandaCrochets  Před 9 měsíci

      If your project is curving, it’s possible your chain is too tight. I recommend going up a hook size to see if that helps. 😊
