- This week's movie commentary is Batman & Robin. It's pretty self-explanatory by my reactions to this film, how much I hate it. It's definitely no Dark Knight. Let's tear apart 2 hours of too many puns and cringey lines. Is Batman & Robin one of your guilty pleasures?

Let’s add to the pun count. What’s the best you got?
Please dont, puns are just really badman.
if catwoman was put in the movie it would have been a catastrophe for batman
Tobi Aturamu No, it wouldve been purrfect!
My 1st time being here, i will say wow you are stunning
@@adamwright7332 Adam Wright more like Adam West
This movie is saved by the villains - if it weren't for Arnold Schwarzenegger and Uma Thurman's overacting this would just be a lover's spat between rich boys in a mansion
Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze is a terrible miscast. But, it's not his fault that the script is this bad.
@@JamesASharp That's why I said overacting - they're not GOOD, but a truly terrible movie requires sincerity on the part of those involved ;)
I agree.
@@JamesASharp if serious film arnold would make amaizing mr freeze imo
Wait, what? Every time they were on screen, i just want Bruce and dick and Alfred back to just talk around the fireplace. Those were the only watchable moments.
I feel like Uma Thurman is literally the only person in this movie who really understands how to perform camp. Like, it's not just about saying corny lines and doing silly shit - it's about doing all that with a wink and a slightly tongue-in-cheek feeling, while still fully committing to the silliness. :)
What about Jason?
She was the onlyone with great costumes and makeup.
Most likely because her work with Tarantino
Arnold definitely knew that. It's just that there has to be a structure to support that which this film didn't have.
@J K do you even know the history of Batman comics?? It was silly like this for years
George Clooney has publicly apologized for this movie. I respect him for that.
I think Joel Schumacher did as well
@@mitchhamilton64 As well he should! (I haven't heard that, but there's video of Clooney doing so.)
almost EVERYONE involved in this movie has apologised for it
He has actually done more. If you get a change to meet him in person and say you saw Batman&Robin in theaters when it came out, Clooney will pay you the price of a movieticket back. Haven´t met him so he still owes me :D
Warner Bros should apologize for firing Tim Burton, which cost the franchise Michael Keaton.
I'm going to play devil's advocate and say that Arnie was actually a pretty good Mr. Freeze. He clearly understood the pathos and motivations of the character, and with better writing and directing behind him his portrayal of Mr. Freeze might have been as definitively good as it was definitively bad.
Considering the role was nearly played by Hulk Hogan we should count ourselves lucky.
Disagree.
@@chand911 i disagree to your disagree
Your headphones dying = they were trying to protect you from this movie
The one thing to appreciate from this movie is that it never pretended to be anything but a call back of Adam West era Batman
This is an insult to Adam West era of Batman.
As I wrote separately, this movie did want to harken back to the 1960s batman series and movie but misunderstood why that camp and fun version worked. They focused on being outrageous and over-the-top while the 60s Batman was driven by Adam West's over-sincere performance and subtly hammy line delivery. Burt Ward's contribution was his earnest energy and delivery of ridiculous phrases starting with the word "Holy" with conviction. This Batman & Robin movie instead tried to create camp through exaggeration and non-stop puns.
This movie is not an ice time. I really wanted to leaf.
Stop it. You're just piling on the "toxic" to this film...
Stop it. Get some help.
Lettuce leaf?
You have failed this comment section 😂
This is one of those movies where it’s so bad it’s good, especially since the Dark Knight trilogy Arkham games etc have come out and made the character respectable again
I respectfully disagree. This movie is so bad that it's odious. I can't believe that I enjoyed this as a teenager. 🤦♂️ But, I still think that Batman Forever is at best decent.
No it's just bad
When I was a kid this was actually the first Batman movie I've ever seen so I liked it with all the colors neon lights and stuff I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Lol. Then I saw Tim Burtons Batman on TV one day and thought Batman & Robin was trash lol.
The saddest thing about this movie, is this was the last Batman movie that Bob Kane the creator or Batman saw before he passed away.
Are we sure this wasn't what actually killed him? ;)
Jake Cleveland bob stole most of the credit from bill finger. Bob might have come up with the name but pretty much everything else was Bill.
Jeep Swensen who played Bane died a few months after the movie came out too.
George Clooney has often said that he almost single handily killed the Batman franchise. lol
Nolan to the rescue ❤️
He literally was so bored with the film that he played Batman as a gay man to distract himself
He's not wrong.
At least his (bat) nipples almost did...
Little fun story. I was 12 when this movie came out. The perfect target audience. I was so excited. I had two posters of this movie over my bed. I had all the toys and magazines from it. The trailers were actually good and dark if you can believe that. Of course at the time i didn’t think the movie was bad, So it kind of holds a special place for me.
feykabah exactly. This was one of the first superhero movies i ever saw. I know the movie is terrible but I’ll always love it. It’s because of this that I became a Batman fan.
@@WileSire Very nice. What made me a Batman fan was the 3rd act of Batman 89. That cathedral with the dark blue sky at night and the batwing flying around. Batman and Robin yes is a terrible movie, but I quit like it. Again, for all the memories, I remember being so excited before and after the movie came out. The toys were really amazing. I had every action figure and every vehicle. Had the posters, magazines behind the scenes artwork, and all of it was actually good. The trailers were good, so yes that all has a weird place in my heart. Being a Batman fan I can only see it as a different version of it.
I was 12 as well when I saw this in theaters with my dad. First time ever super disappointed in a movie. I remember asking to leave and see a different movie but for some reason we both stayed til the end.
Same. I was almost 11 😔
I was 12 when the Tim Burton / Michael Keaton Batman was released, I saw them all in the cinema. This one makes me feel physically uncomfortable
This commentary in a nutshell: what is happening & WHYYYYYY?!!!?? 🤣👏🏼
The extent of my vocabulary for the whole 2 hours 😂
Robin is meant to be 16/17 even though Chris O' Donnell was 26/27 years old at the time .
This movie literally killed the superhero franchise for a good few years. It was films like Bade, X-Men and Spider-Man that brought it back
Correction *Blade*
Is nobody gonna talk about the agressive ass close up shot when batman was dressing up? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Wtf was that
Joel Schumacher is a gay man and was pissed at Warner for trying to micromanage the movie, so he went full on camp as a “fuck this shit” move.
@@Blackarachnia1996 You have to kind of admire the balls on this guy to go full out, even if the film sucked them big time.
That was my gay awakening lol
Should've watched Batman Forever. It's just as campy and ridiculous, but at least it's got Jim Carrey in it.
To be fair Batman Forever was a lot better than this. I actually think Val Kilmar nailed what Batman is when he is outside the costume.
This movie is so trashy. And I LOVE it! 😂
"Who wrote this?"
Akiva Goldsman, the producer of Star Trek: Picard and Titans, who also wrote A Beautiful Mind and Transformers: The Last Knight.
That man made a long journey, but left toooo much influence
I've loathed Akiva Goldsman ever since this movie. Hes written some gems but he did this purely for the money.
He had also made Winter's tale, goggle that atrocity.
And as far as I know he's never apologized for it.
This movie is my ultimate guilty pleasure. The lighting is cool, the action is entertaining, and Freeze and Ivy were pretty fun. I love this stupid movie!
Same... I shouldn't like the movie, and I have no illusions that objectively it's a terrible movie, but I still enjoy it. The feel of it actually reminded me of the classic '60's Adam West Batman I watched with my dad as a really young kid, so I suspect that has something to do with it.
Mister WiZeguy Its enjoyable if you are a gay cowboy
The lightning was way better in Batman Forever, same of the action scenes.
@@darkmarv8045 Well, both were directed by Joel Schumacher. I don't have an opinion on which was better, they're both just so fun.
@@Zeddyboi86 True, but Batman Forever had a better production value and was still produced by Tim Burton (while Batman and Robin isn't produced by Burton).
Batman Forever's original cut was way darker and longer, with different opening and scenes, then WB decided to cut and re-edited it into a more "lighter" and "colorful" movie to sell more toys for the kids; but as a movie it had his good moments, the direction of Schumacher was more inspired, Kilmer as Bruce Wayne/Batman is way better than Clooney and Carrey is a perfect villain.
Batman and Robin was made from the start "over the top", cartoonish and for kids, it expands all the ridiculous stuff in BF and the acting are all worse than BF.
Both are fun, but BF is a better movie for me.
"He's talking down to him like he's his son..."
Funny you should say that. In the comics, Batman (Bruce Wayne) really considers Robin (Dick Grayson) to be his son.
I love how this movie looks. It's like a world made out of toys and glowing lights.
You marked out hard at that Riddler reference, you should watch Batman Forever. Same director, same Robin.
Batman Forever was pretty good. I actually prefer Val Kilmar as Batman than Christian Bale. More natural fit.
In the comics Bane is super intelligent and was able to deduce that Bruce Wayne is Batman
In this movie he just goes "Bomb, Bomb, Bomb....Bomb"
The most accurate representation of a comicbook character in a film ever
10:35, despite the callback to Batman Forever, you know Bruce had to make a separate account for the Batman persona and fill it with enough funds to back up his bids. He's literally his own creditor
"Wild Oats to sew" are a saying that prob predates your time, it means have as much sex as you can when youre young to get it out of your system.
Its often used when a person is going to marry early , and they havent had enough sex up until then.
Its supposed to be way for a partner not to want to roam sexually because they didnt get enuf nasty b4 they married
I've always thought that this film, with all its camp and bad puns, was an attempt at an updated version of the TV series from the 60's. It failed, utterly, but I see the rational as flawed as it was.
I saw this shit in the theater haha! People were taking this shit serious, except me and my best friend. People were crying during that scene of Alfred and Bruce when Alford was on his death bed. People HATED US because we couldn’t stop laughing at how STUPID it was!
This was written by akiva goldsman he won an oscar for this. He does have a beautiful mind
Is it bad that I loved this film when I was younger. Yep...I hate myself now 😭
I got really confused watching this as a kid because I loved Tim Burton's 1989, batman returns abit less, batman forever abit less then this just made me confused wtf happened
5:46 I knew someone in high school with the last name Bates. The running joke was someday he’d be a millionaire and his butler would have to call him Master... well I think you get the idea
“Why are you trying to breed plants and animals together?”
Hmmm maybe trying to make the world’s first burgers that come with their own salad included.
We can thank this movie for WB course correcting the Batman franchise and giving us a grittier Dark Knight for the 2000's
Joel Schumacher was the true villain of this film.
@J K Maybe you're the one who's a worthless loser since you have a problem with Batman being serious. How do you think the character's survived this long if you think he's supposed to be goofy all the time?
I have a few suggestions of 90's cheesy/cringe films for you to roast -
1. Steel
2. Mortal Kombat Annihilation (Watch the first Mortal Kombat just so you can see how bad the second film is)
3. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The Movie
4. Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie (Just ugh)
5. The Avengers (1998) (Not the Marvel Avengers, Ralph Finnes and Uma Thurman Avengers)
My favorite pun from the whole movie has to be "FREEZE IN HELL, BATMAN!!!!"
On my birthday when I was a little boy my dad gave me the option of going to play laser tag or watch this in theaters. I chose this. And I still feel sorry for putting him through that to this day.
As a Brit, that Oxbridge revelation was adorable to watch haha
Awesome commentary. I remember seeing it as a kid and knowing it was bad then. So much to laugh about that one viewing isn't enough. It just baffles me this went through so many layers of production and editing to premiere.
You'd never know if from seeing him play Alfred, but Michael Gough played a number of wonderfully monstrous bastards in the '60s and '70s. After being miscast as the long-suffering fiance of Mina in Horror of Dracula (1958) he found his niche as hateful dirtbags in Konga, Horrors of the Black Museum, Berserk!, Crucible of Horror, Trog, Phantom of the Opera (1962), Black Zoo, Horror Hospital, Satan's Slave, and many more. Even in a bit part in The Boys From Brazil he was a nasty piece of work; after that his roles grew kinder and gentler. But I'll always love him for the over-the-top bad guy roles.
you know that scene where Robin and Ivy kisses and he then peels off the lips? he's so close she could've easily just kissed him again. just sayin'
Movie logic thrown out the window 😂
Robin wouldn't let that happen lol.
Person 1: Hey, you know what's funny? This year, Batman and Robin turns-
Person 2: Please, don't blaspheme. It's "The One We Shall Not Speak of".
Person 1: Right. "The One We Shall Not Speak of" turns 25 this year.
Last time I watched this, I made a point to do a pun count, and came up with sixty-four. That's about one pun every two minutes on average. Also, not only did the dinosaurs not die from an ice age, why is there a dinosaur in there at all? The exterior says "Gotham Museum of ART."
I watched this way too much on VHS when I was young. But at least I can look back on it and laugh/cringe. This movie's plot is basically the same as Batman Forever, but with far more neon lights and puns. Suit-up intro, opening fight with Villain #1, personal conflict for the hero, origin story for 2nd villain, new hero is introduced, Villain #1 and Villain #2 team up and overwhelm hero, personal issues get resolved as the heroes unite, big climactic set piece battle with new suits and new vehicles, heroes run together toward the screen, cue soundtrack that is much better than the movie, THE END.
Thank you for doing this amazingly horrifying film justice with your hilarious commentary and reaction. It's truly a guilty pleasure because it makes you feel so damn guilty watching it... and you just can't help but cringe ALL the time and laugh sometimes. Batman and Robin: The Destroyer of Headphones. #Oxbridge😂
“This is why Super-Ham works alone”
I think that could be a good T-shirt
Nice job pointing out Freeze's henchmen. Never understood them. The crotch skull was something I never noticed. Old man Joel really screwed us over.
I was a kid when this came out. If you could have checked my parents blockbuster rentals you would have seen that I rented this an unnecessary amount of times.
I was 7 years old when this came out and even then I knew this movie was bad. I was a huge fan of the Burton movies and the cartoon at that age.
I find it hilarious the zoom up costume changing scene like why do I need in see Batman's package so close to the screen,I like how Poison Ivy and Bane were done better through animated movies. This is a fun goofy movie.
Sad thing is that with the first Batman movie (Keaton), the studio didn't want to do a Batman movie because they thought it was going to be based on the campy Batman (West), and this is where we ended up.
Your reactions were PURE gold!!! Gotta see you rip another film soon!! Lol
Oh sweet lord, I remember dad taking me to see this when it came out... and the whole time we just sat there next to each other with our mouths hanging open wondering pretty much the exact same things you were. *What?? Why?? Really?? Who wrote this?? Who designed these costumes?? How was this allowed to happen??? WHAT IS THIS MOVIE??!?* As we were leaving the movie theater, dad asked if this was intended to be a comedy. My brain cells were too stunned for me to formulate a cohesive response.
Your reactions were so relatable, and I deeply sympathize with you enduring all that this flick bombards the viewer with. There is a method to something being so bad that it's good. This movie? Well to quote one of dad's favorite lines of all time from Andy Kaufman, it's so bad... it's terrible!
nic, you totally made this more enjoyable to watch with you, love you
To me, this movie was like they tried to replicate a 60s comic mixed the 66 show but in the same realm as the Burton film, they were two very different styles that just didn't mesh well imo, but I do watch it again sometimes.
One good thing came from this being made, we eventually got the Nolan movies.
To clarify.
Robin in the film before this is meant to be 17, I assume this film takes place two years after so that would make Robin 18 turning 19 or 19, depending if he has an established birthday.
I watched this when I was kid, couldn't understand
Now I watched again with u, now I know why people called this batman movie a nightmare
I think one of the big problems was Batman fans had been watching the animated series for years, which had a much more serious tone to it. Then this trainwreck came along and most of us just could not accept it.
I remember loving this movie when I was a kid, but just looking at it now makes me laugh at it again. Does make me feel like a kid again tho, in a way. Also, your reaction to ppl in theaters made me scream. 😂 For you, which is worse: Phones being used, talking, or snacks opened during quiet moments?
You can clearly tell George Clooney looked soo embarrassed to be there 😳😳😳😳
At the "bat-blazer-despite-thawing device" -"Oh F*CK OFF!, Why is the water Red!?!"
I love you lol
Joel Schumacher did admit that he wasn't happy with this film. He did try to revert back to the dark routes of batman from the first two batman films
When I was a kid, I was in awe of how pretty it all looked. I also thought the stupid parts were really funny.
I think this is my favorite video of yours so far!!
I’m sorry but for me the “Every Poison Ivy action figure comes complete with him!”(Bane) line is just awesome writing.
Just recently found your channel! Extremely glad I found it! Amazing and funny AF reactions 🤣
So happy you’re enjoying the videos ☺️ welcome to the fam!
Yay always excited to see you. Love what did with your hair and another great reaction.

The last time i watch it i was 10. At that time i thought it was okay. Lol. Thank fully, batman movies got better since then
This was one of the best videos I ever watched!!!! Thank you so much for doing this. Yea...I saw this in theaters and I thought it was terrible.
How do you capture the video? Do you ever get demonetized for using footage?
im the tv show batgirl was commissioner gordon's daughter barbara but according to her wiki she has been betty kane, helena bertinelli, cassandra cain & stephanie brown
I'm new to your channel as of a couple of weeks, your reactions are great, have a really different tact to them compared to other channels *thumbs up*
You are in for a campy craptastic treat with this one. Remember seeing it as a kid when it came out and even then thinking “Something is different about this Batman movie compared to the other ones.”
This is a bad fun movie, not cats, never cats.
I was in high school when this came out, and it was literally watching the Batman franchise getting flushed down the toilet. In retrospect it's kind of fun to watch if you're in a funny bad movie kind of mood, but at the time it seemed like Batman was dead.
I got to see this as a 10yr old kid in theaters and even being a Batman fan I knew this was campy. My father loved it cause it reminded him of the 60s Batman show.
Yeah, I watched the 60's Batman as a young kid with my dad, so though the movie is objectively terrible I still strangely enjoy it; probably because of that connection.
You made me yawn everytime hahahahaah! But had so much fun, as always
I made myself yawn while editing 😂
@@nicsandnacs Yawnception The movie
I can’t tell if Arnold’s puns are hilarious or unbearable 😂😂😂😂
Why not both?
I still love this movie, idc. It's my ultimate guilty pleasure
Thank you so much for making this video! You legitimately gave me a new perspective and I don’t think I can see this film the same way ever again. This movie is such a mind f*** in the weirdest way but you did make it bearable. All that aside, all your reactions and all your observations are so hilarious and I can’t get enough of you. I just have to say that you’re definitely worth the following and I’m so excited for more content!! Speaking of, I’m looking forward to your commentary and reaction to the lighthouse cause it’s beyond different from all of the films that I’ve ever seen but it’s worth the watch.
Glad you’re enjoying the videos ☺️ The Lighthouse was definitely interesting to say the least 😂
Nics&Nacs omg I can’t wait for the video!!
When the movie came out I was 11. Up until that point the other batman movies were the Tim Burton movies and as for super hero movies in general we only had Superman. So as a kid who loved the comics, I was just happy when they made a superhero movie and didn't really even notice the campiness. I was just happy to be able to see these characters on the big screen.
A BAT-CREDIT CARD???!! They actually sell those. I'm not kidding!
the riddler (played by jim carey) & 2face were in the next batman movie referenced on batman's credit card cause it was called batman forever
This movie is set in the same universe as the previous 3 batman movies which is why riddlers coat is there because he was put in Arkham at the end of batman forever
First Batman forever, and then this, was a insult to Burton's Batman movies.
Your movie reactions are are hilarious and are a cure to my depression...
Glad I could bring a bit of happiness to your day and hope you’re staying safe ☺️
Batman and Robin.
A movie so bad that the director and actors spent more time apologizing for it than promoting it.
When this came out I was in gradeschool so I was like yeyyy! But watching it as an adult is a WTF moment hahaha
8:31 Because his doesn't give life, it gives death.
I absolutely love your channel and your reactions are so adorable!! Please do the 1989 Batman and the 1992 Batman Returns movies!!
You should do a "Roast" segment as a part of your channel 🤣
Batman & Robin is just a two hour long commercial!
Nic: "Who wrote this?"
Me: Avika Goldsman.
Nikki. Hi. The movie I remember well. I was in my early twenties, avid comic book collector and was hoping to see a decent adaptation of a comic book hero for the screen. And when I saw the movie being one of the biggest Batman fans ever, I have never left a movie theater so pissed off in all my life. They did everything wrong. The Movie was written by Akiva Goldsmith and the was doctored by two others who escape my brain. Clooney was horribly miscast, Alicia SIlverstone was wooden, Uma Thurman, John Glover, and Arnold should have never been cast at all. Not to mention from a story stand point Poison Ivy would never team up with either Bane, or Mr. Freeze in the first place. So there was no suspension of disbelief for me watching the movie. It was painful, even more painful than having Danny Devito lead an army of penguins to try to destroy Gotham City. As you eloquently pointed out Warner Bros. and other movie studios at this particular time hadn't cracked the Super hero genre, and the closest they had come to a perfect Super hero movie was the first Superman and First Batman film. Luckilly for us, Blade got it right, Raimi's First and second SPiderman got it right along with the Marvel Infinity Saga, Wonder Woman, Shazam!, and Aquaman. I have been a comic book historian for both DC and Marvel, and I own every single comicbook adaption that has been made by mainstream media the past twenty to twenty five years. The movie felt like a poor attempt to try to capture the flavor of the 60's television series while trying to sell as many toys as Kenner could at the time of it's release. And because they spent less production time than any of the Batflicks that came before it, the quality shows, the effects show, the writing. Everything.
Your commentary is punnier than the movie itself 😂😂😂
My co workers and I quote Arnold as Mr. Freeze all the time at work lol
Donnie Sole I bet it's a riot working there
@@voodoochile333 We typically stick to one movie a month and quote the shit out of it
I saw this in the theater and it was so horrible that I walked out and snuck into a different theater to see something else. I didn't even know Bane was in this.
Batman and Robin. World's worst Batman movie...OR....world's best Batman toy commercial?
