Same here. Downloaded the demo, and was hooked. Bought the physical copy of UO and I have to force myself to stop playing. Amazing game.
Atlus/Vanillaware might have struck gold with Unicorn Overlord, doing what S-E seems unwilling/unable to do in making a Tactics game for the modern era. It also shows that a quality game does not require hundreds of millions of dollars to make. Just a reasonable goal and the ability to resist the temptation to go beyond when the means aren't there.
That last part is especially funny, since apparently the company ran out of money, so the CEO had to pay up to have the game finished. But of course comments like yours look good on paper.
It's more like a strategy game than a tactical game.
At least, it is a wonderful gem ! So addictive, fresh and beautiful gameplay... All I need instead of bigger productions with only marketing campaigns to support them...
@@benilinshingoseth2086 Again, they ran out of money, so not everything is as rosy as you paint it.
I think it's a similar structure to Kingdom Hearts where the Dark Seekers Saga ended with KH3, but the series will still continue with a new saga. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 ended the Klaus saga, but the series will continue with a different saga.
I get a feeling MonolithSoft held back on XCX for a reason. I think they're working on a storyline for that to become its own series.
Unicorn Overlord is incredible! Definitely should be in the conversation for GotY
That game was amazing. The graphics, the music, the freedom the game gives you to customize your characters and units... it's all done so amazingly well. It has almost this Civilization quality where you just want to do one more thing, tweak a few units, explore the map a little more, maybe complete a side quest or two, then maybe tweak your units a little bit more. But then you have a completely new idea of how that unit could function and retweak everything, etc., etc. And before you know it a few hours have passed by and it's all fine. However, the game is supportive of what you do and how you build your units. There is no "right" or "wrong" way to play the game, and pretty sure nearly everyone who plays the game comes across with their own unique tactics and play style that works for them.
The only complaints I have about it are minor, and that is the story is bare bones (it really doesn't need a fleshed out plot twist at every turn story though. It's serviceable and does just enough to get by and has good voice acting), and the menu can be slightly clunky at times (trying to find a specific item can take far longer then is necessary).
Barring BG3, I haven't had as much fun with a RPG in a decade or two. It really pulls from the greatest in the genre while still paying homage to them, while still being it's own thing. It's an instant classic and should be upheld in the same light as some of the best in the genre. Coming from someone who grew up on NES, SNES and beyond RPGS, this really is one of my favorite RPGs of all time.
it won't. The Game Awards dislike Japanese games.They want to present the gaming industry as something fancy, hip, a hollywood cousin. Even games like Zelda, Mario, and Final Fantasy struggle getting GOTY awards in the west😅
It won't get GoTY, not ever. Sweet Baby Inc will sure one of their mentally ill agenda games they're involved with gets GoTY.
That art book has me even more excited for what Takahashi and Monolithsoft have in-store for the Xenoblade franchise!
Unicorn overlord was soooo good It literally stole sleep from me.
I truly hope that the good news would lead to a DLC Expansion for Unicorn Overlord later down the line. :)

Unicorn Overlord has been sold out since release here in NL. No idea when they will be back in stock. At this rate I'll end up having to import from Asia or worse, Germany. As a massive FFT, Tactics Ogre, Xcom fan I regret not pre-ordering.

@@NoctLightCloud The covers are in German; I'd prefer English but Dutch is OK (I speak it and live in NL). German/French/Spanish etc - OK if the game is heavily discounted but I'm not paying full price.

New REYNATIS is looking super cool. Taking a break from gaming for a bit for work related stuff. Should have more time later in the year. Hopeful to see a switch 2 and possible visual upgrades to old games for the new platform.
REYNATIS is a game that I'm really looking forward to playing. A nice AA action game plus an added bonus is they might have made the Switch the lead platform for development due to it having two different livestreams showing the Switch version and it being shown first at a Nintendo Direct so performance should not be an issue. They really nailed how Shibuya looks. What's even crazier is that they got real world places in the game.
I am definitely having a blast with Unicorn OL! I just got to the part where Joseph introduces Gambit like things from FFXII to the battles. So far so great!
Nice to see an update on Renatis. This game is looking better and better with each new release of gameplay. Any news on Xaun Yaun Sword 7 for the switch? Although this is a port, XYS7 looked like another great AA rpg that should be out this year for the switch.
I love unicorn overlord, but I wish it was a bit more difficult!
Very happy to see unicorn overlord sell as much as it did and hyped to receive my Xenoblade 3 book you know I won’t be able to read a damn thing. Hopefully someone will close the translation soon somewhere.
The Xenoblade 3 artbook has been pretty fascinating. I'm guessing Xeno 4 will be in what I call the "super future" of our outcome after 3 like what happened in 2.
I stopped playing FFVII Rebirth in Chapter 12, when I got Unicorn Overlord. I said, I'll get back to Rebirth when I finish my playthrough. Then I promptly started a second playthrough at higher difficulty level. The game is so good. Also I think the voice actors need to get praise as well. They did an exceptional job.

After playing Unicorn Overlord and loving the spirte art, I would like to see Vanillaware make a Dragon's Crown sequel with Unicorn Overlord characters in it. LOL There is a resrugence in the interest in hack n slash and beat em up games after Streets of Rage 4 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game. It would be a license to print money basically.
Xenoblade open world would be the next time line and jump in time space. Where what one does can affect the past and future timeline and can go back forth to change events.

I know a youtuber who didn't like fire emblem, Final fantasy, tactic ogre... LOVE Unicorn Overlord! so even if you don't like TRPG you can like it.

Unicorn overlord was amazing. Got 60 hours out of my first playthrough and it def has replayability.
3:35 The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky released in 2004 the Trails series now today have over 10 titles released in the same universe. So in term of writing quality and just the lore of their world they did it before and it's way better than the one in Xenoblade in my opinion.
It just keep expanding in every sequel too. Go check out the Trails series if you like Xeno. Highly recommend.

Everytime a Xenoblade book gets discussed, I to like to remind people that the XB2 OST booklet had an interview in it where they said:
"We want to keep the numbering for the Xenoblade series going. So...
The game before this one was Xenoblade X, and we want to take good care of that too. So we want to get Xenoblade 3 out, but also a 2 for cross (X). But if we keep doing numbered titles, it's gonna get stale,
So we want to do something completely original too"

I think with Baldurs Gate 3 success it might influence the sushi eaters to make AAA tactics or Turn Based JRPG. a AAA Final Fantasy Tactics game would be awesome. or a AAA turn based Final Fantasy 17 .

@@bethanyh1637 xenoblade chronicles 1,2,3,X and the dlc all but x on switch. i got through most of 1 but didnt finish yet. others i completed. ive heard that i think there was some reference too ... uh xeno saga ( which ever has that robot lady cosmos i think)? in end of 3 i think i saw something of cosmos stuff maybe an anime idk long time ago.
@@okazakikun1 There's a lot that didn't make sense to me, too and I've also beaten the whole series. I was wondering if maybe it didn't make sense because you where newer to the series, or because they just didn't explain things well or tie up loose ends.

Put about 40 hours into Unicorn Overlord. Really hits the Ogre Battle itch, and I don't see why I'd every want to go back to Fire Emblem nonsense. Of course, you have to like the light RTS elements, but game can be paused so not a big deal.
Comments like these are always so weird to me. You are aware that you can enjoy two different games or franchises for different reasons, right? But of course Gamers have to make a contest out of everything.

Been a huge Xeno fan since xenogears. XB Chronicles 3 story suuuuuucked. Bring back Xenosaga or finish up the xenogears saga. at least give us the best Xenoblade game, Xenoblade Chronicles X.

@@interselics3140 I honestly don't understand where the praise for XC3's story comes from. That has to be one of the worst written stories in a game I played and that's saying a lot, since I don't need a philosophical and deep plot, something simple is fine. But the main characters in XC3 are so slow on understanding, they can't seem to pick up anything happening and do some thinking, it's ridiculous. Don't get me started on characters getting convinced by having the most obvious things said to them. So much potential just thrown down the drain.
Have to disagree. Best thematic writing I've seen in a game. Every side quest contributed to the overall themes. Lots of interesting characters. One of the few stories about revolution that actually depict building different cultures out of the ashes of a totalitarian one as opposed to just overthrowing the old one and then the new regime is just as bad. Great critique of elitism that works for communism or capitalism as well.
So much more nuanced and ambitious than most game stories. But some people didn't really get it - for instance criticizing the samey looking settlements when that contributed to what the story was talking about. Or critiquing the Moebius villains for not being nuanced when the point was that many real world people in power have become totally seduced by power and hedonism and they're not all nuanced and fascinating, they're spoiled narcissists.
Anyway, no worries that you didn't like it. But wanted to share a different perspective as I'm so bored of RPGs telling the same stories so for anyone looking for something different and interesting, even if it's imperfect - imo you'll find it here
And I've played xenogears and saga, and enjoyed them. Not just a blade fan
@@NuiYabuko Amen to that. Massive boring worlds, just to pad the game. Sprinkled in with very little story imo. They have done this since I owned the Wii version of Xenoblade Chronicles. They then started to throw in expensive expansion passes to cash grab, and try to add tidbits of more "story". I don't understand the big deal with these boring, massive Xenoblade Chronicles maps. I had some fun playing 3, but for a lot of people to say it's just among the greatest game of all time etc.?! I'm all for something original instead of the typical JRPG stories that accompany a lot of them, but this one was not clicking for me. I even put 250 or more hours into it, mostly doing side stuff instead of the main story at times. I just think if they scale down the gigantic worlds, and focus even more on fun gameplay, a good paced story along with great character development then I would praise this franchise more. Til then....????
@@khalimblank I liked it, just not loved it. It's great if you want a huge time waster jrpg to fill a void til something else releases that you're wanting. I just don't agree it's anywhere near a 9.5-10 score. I personally think an 8 is generous. Everyone has their opinions.
