"Supercar drag races don’t get much better than this!
We’ve brought together a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, a Porsche 911 Turbo S & a McLaren 720S to go head-to-head over the quarter-mile!
So let’s check out the stats. Starting with the ever-reliable Porsche, it’s powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six that can put down 650hp & 800Nm of torque. It’s equipped with all wheel drive and tips the scales at 1,640kg.
As for the SVJ, it’s lighter than the Porsche, at 1,525kg. It’s also up on power, with a 6.5-litre V12 that’s good for 770hp and 690Nm! But will it launch as well as the Porsche?
Then finally we have the lightest car in the line-up, the McLaren 720S. It only weighs in at 1,420kg, and it’s packing a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 that can put down an amazing 720hp & 770Nm! It’s got one key weakness though - it’s only equipped with RWD!

Turbo S is the best example of a car being able to put down its total horsepower on the ground. For the SVJ you have to say that it is the best example of performance and style for a V12 engine. It is like a Batmobile. And for the McLaren, you know that it is capable of giving the Turbo S a close competition but then the driver was sleeping all the time. I had high hopes for the 720S but it needs a driver mod.

It's quite frightening that people with such slow reactions are driving cars this quick. It's plain dangerous. I hope it was the launch control acting up, but I don't think so.
Fair enough, but then again, going by dyno tests, the 720S has around 800hp rather than the stated 720hp. So, as well as being the lightest car in this group, and it is far more powerful than the Turbo S and even more than the Lambo!

I agree, I never understood why they rush the drag races (I get a lot of cars can't do launches over and over) and why they don't take the best times. At the end when they say, "the Porsche finished in whatever seconds" they should take the best times for each car from the day. Not from one race.

He's had the Porsche Turbo S in his videos quite a few times. It has been the most consistent winner in this channel and other channels. What gets me is I've the Porsche go up multiple times against different cars and the Porsche keeps on going and going like the Duracell bunny rabbit.

911s are just incredible machines, the Turbo S is an absolute supercar killer. That Aventador has twice as many cylinders and nearly twice the displacement of the 911, yet it stands absolutely no chance in a straight line. That 720s is insanely fast when you put down the power though.
The SVJ driver jumped the start every time and the 720 driver waited for his dad to come home before launching

How To Drag Race A 720s Step By Step Guide (courtesy Wayne)
On 3.... this means wake up and shower brush your teeth and start getting ready!
On 2... this means call an uber to take you to the drag race
On 1... this is the time you arrive at the race and do some light warmups and stretching
On 0... (always add the zero) get into the 720s and start the car to warm up the engine as you adjust the settings
On GO!.... Look left and right to ensure there are no pedestrians or animals crossing. Safety first!
On silence after others are gone.... Select Launch control mode and double check settings
At your discretion... Launch the car gently to ensure that there is no tire smoke to harm the environment
Proceed down the track in a spirited but not too aggressive manner
The objective of a drag race is to conserve fuel and not harm the environment with your emissions.

I knew the Porsche was going to win and the McLaren COULD HAVE done better, but at the end of the day, I'd still rather have the sinister looking, incredible sounding Aventador SVJ! The SVJ may not be the quickest, but it's plenty quick enough and I'm pretty sure it's the most desirable out of this trio... at least to me, anyway.

If I'm not wrong, both the Porsche & the McLaren have achieved 10.1s somewhere on the web.

About the same weight, one is 650 hp, the other is 770 hp, on gear - same result. One has 'marketing horsepower', the other honours an out dated gentlemen agreement.

McLaren driver just needs to learn how to compensate for the reaction time. So instead of trying to go on go if he sets off about 2 seconds earlier he'll be spot on. Likewise brake about 2 seconds before the line!

Every time Carwow puts a McLaren 720s on the channel, it never performs even close to its full potential! It's as though Carwow doesn't want McLaren to win imo. And for those who say Brooks from Dragtimes only gets good times because he is doing the testing in America at a dragstrip, check Ricky's dragy times out from Living Life Fast LLF with his McLaren 720s...
It’s like they don’t want the 720s to perform well 🤔 need a better driver who will warm up the tyres on the McLaren and have good reaction times. Turbo S would get wasted on a hot sunny day with a better airstrip. Like you said, Ricky gets 9.9s on the street consistently

Brooks only uses his 720s on prepared dragstrip surface. On real roads the 720s underperforms heavily and you can see the benefit of other AWD cars.

We need a redo of this race. Mclaren driver was terrible behind the wheel. Safe to say that the car wow fan base knows how much that car is capable of doing and the 720s was let down really bad today.

If I recall correctly Brooks from DragTimes managed to beat Turbo S with stock 720S on 1/4 mile. But his reaction time is incomparable to this driver, not sure if the track was properly prepped, but warmer tires would definitely help. In short, stock 720S is capable of sub 10s 1/4 mile.
