      They completely rewrote and reshot almost every single thing. This is from the second version. They made THREE in total, where the first was even more faithful to the book. Without any Aculos, any Opal koboi, I think, his mother was there and acted the same as in the book etc. etc. and etc. But Disney execs were shocked to see an “evil” kid protagonist in the first screen test, like they had no idea what they’d even bought the rights to! So they changed a bunch of stuff, and added pointless Mulch Diggums narration too. Then they changed even more, and they kept the narration by Josh Gad because allegedly that was one of the few things they REALLY loved - while most people who watched the movie found it to be one of the top 3 most asinine parts about the movie. Check this post for proof: www.reddit.com/r/ArtemisFowl/comments/hgsy0e/comment/fw76drs/?ampcid=1*4odi4r*cid*WHZnVEV3ZHpnd1VqRVJSX0lYVWk5Sm5OaEV4c2g5UHA0YlN1QkxZSTNiaHFoRDdoZjBjMDk3d2ZOUm9xNjhSNA.. This is the first chapter of the book, these part of the book is were we are introduced to Artemis's criminal/blackmailing side. The book also shows that Artemis is also not uncaring as offers two solutions the antidote ( which he gives her freely as a way to gain her attention /this also shows that he was not willing to let her die) and a booster that restores powers (This was traded for access to the book). This scene is great but fails to show Artemis's moral grayness.

    • @andychen8664
      @andychen8664 Před 3 lety +3

      I’m assuming that they wanted Artemis tone more cruel because his motivation is a lot more personal in this version of the story. Could’ve been an interesting take.

  • @lennardchurch8483
    @lennardchurch8483 Před 4 lety +17

    One scene they actually filmed of Artemis as a villain, and they couldn't even get that right.
    Artemis gave the holy water, then gave the fountain water/antidote as a "sign of good faith", and offered a drug cocktail that would purge the alcohol from the faerie's body in exchange for one minute with the book. He took the pictures of the pages, returned the book and left. Butler asked him why he didn't just kill the faerie and keep the book, and Artemis replied that leaving a trail of bodies would lead back to him.
    Disney fundamentally understands nothing about the book Eoin Colfer wrote. They had Artemis poison her, then withhold the antidote until he got the book.

      I agree it’s different from how it’s written in the book (which masterfully illustrates artemis’ moral greyness) but even so, including this scene would have made the movie soooooo much better, by being the one scene with a tiny smidgen of the cold, calculating Artemis we know.

    • @andychen8664

      Yet at the same time, makes him look more bratty, and childish. Being surprised at seeing the fairy(Whoa!? Seriously? Why does he have to say whoa? A flinch or a slow blink would suffice. I thought this was intended for the big screen, with subtle acting, not tv-screen-loud), rising his voice needlessly while(as far as he know, according to the script) an old woman is shriveling up smoking in front of his eyes, his banters with the fairy, and him talking about the encounter on the plane. While plane talk helps establish his relationship with Butler better than what the movie does, it also shows his vulnerability way to early at that point in the movie. This, is assuming, that this particular scene is suppose to go after the montage of him learning about fairy existence. Which, thankfully, would throw the whole Aculos plot to the dump, where it belongs, because it would go in accordance with the book, and Mulch would've just find The Book in that safe.

It's like The Last Jedi. Where here there is an actual story written quite a long time ago, which they are making so they can't just make things up on the fly like TLJ. Example in TLJ they just have Palpatine alive and that their new villain is actually his clone, same for Artemis Fowl his father already knows about fairies

      @@mrglass2837 Yes, yet what we have to remember and recognize is this: Even in this scene, Artemis said a line stating how it's a wonder to him that they are all real. And that is on the plane scene, right after he bluntly exclaimed in the scene before, saying incredulously that the fairies are real. Meaning, this deleted scene, even if it makes it into the movie, would be after he research the fairies, pre his father direction/inspiration.
      You know, that montage scene in the movie where they badly voiced over almost every line Artemis and Butler said in his father's study? Yeah, this Ho Chi Min scene is.supposed to go after that, and before Juliet's scene giving lil' Arty his sandwich.

It looks like many important scene were deleted or re-edit. The runtime is only 95 minutes. I guess they probably reshoot and re-edit a lot of stuff since the movie has been delay many times. But besides all those problems, I actually really like some of the concept and characters portrayals in the film, you can still see the effort and passion of the people who’ve done this, it’s just the problem with post production.

      Look up the tie in picture book "Artemis Fowl: A Fowl Adventure". It was copyrighted in 2019 and has a very book-accurate adaptation with screenshots of book adapted scenes that isn't in the final film (2 screenshots of the gold, Artemis decoding "The Booke", Holly with an acorn in her cell, the LEP officers going into Fowl manor after the bio-bomb, which is mentioned by name in text). There's also a BTS interview where Ferdia mentions the bio-bomb by name... The best guess is there was a book accurate adaptation before the original August 2019 release date, but for some reason, someone at Disney didn't like it and asked for major changes.
      That idea you have in the beginning of your comment is basically the way "A Fowl Adventure" book takes the story. Artemis researches stuff on his own, and the only connection he has with his father is postcards that are sent to him for his fairy collection, which these postcards are where he finds the "Time 2 believe" note. The book has no screenshots of Artemis Fowl Sr or the Aculos. The only mention of the Aculos is near the end in text, where everyone sees it in the safe at Fowl Manor, Mulch swallows it, and escapes.
      There's also another tie-in book that's also copyrighted 2019 called "How To Be A L.E.P. Recon" that the final chapter is "Mud People to Avoid at All Costs!" with pictures of members of the Fowl household (in the style of the actors cast),one of which is Angeline Fowl.. Also to note, Artemis Fowl Sr. is mentioned but there is no picture.
