      I like how everybody acts surprised that he's got *another* (OMG!) 2080Ti!
      like he totally would've painted it, if it was his only 2080Ti.
      like a video production company having several high-end GPUs sitting in store was something totally unheard of.
      like Linus never was a product manager at a big retail store and built this channel using the connections he got from that.
      I find it kinda hilarious, how people don't get it's a business, lol. Driving a 100,000$ harvesting machine across a giant acre doesn't make the farmer a millionaire either...

      Sagess Aries I do know that he has a lot of money, but what I was trying to point out was that whilst everyone focuses on the fact that Linus can just easily get another 2080Ti to replace the broken one, the CPU next to him is literally 5x times the GPU’s worth, yet everyone ignores it

    • @xxxblackvenomxxx
      @xxxblackvenomxxx Před rokem +2

      True, but you can do much more with that xeon than with the new ryzen. It's a server processor after all and parallelizing is just purely awesome on these things. Also, you can get that xeon for like 100 bucks, depending on where you live. Ah.. and you can put two of these on one mainboard, just for info. On top of that, you can put ridiculous amounts of memory in these systems, if you need to and you also got plenty of PCI lanes, while a single ryzen is somewhat limited.
      Now, power consumption is another thing that increases with older architecture, when it comes to comparisons.
      All in all, the ryzen 9 is probably preferrable, but for those who know what to do with those old xeons, it's a very nice option!

    I love not-common form factors. I have been looking at Mini ITX, including some that have "built-in CPU's" - usually Intel Atom CPU's, on a Mini ITX form factor mobo - the main feature I require is Dual Ethernet because I'm building a pfsense box, and don't want it to take up the entire rack (yes it's going into a 19" rackmount chassis). Which I will spray firetruck red because, why not.*
    Just the front of the Rack will be sprayed. I'm not wasteful. The rest of the chassis won't be visible on rack anyway...
    If you're looking to do same do special Amazon (or NewEgg etc) searches for "ASRock Rack motherboard" because their "Rack" series of mobos usually are Mini ITX, often dual ethernet etc.

    • @FlameRat_YehLon

      Super computer CPUs are easily 240T nowadays. Even though not all threads are created equally, as long as there's a consumer version of such chip come out, such record would become pretty pointless, like, it doesn't indicate performance in any way, just "might boost certain workflow" and that's it. (But then, we would have to question whether GPU should be considered a special type of CPU or not.)
      But otherwise, I have a feeling that it's possible to build a "small" form factor quad CPU workstation as long as you hand craft the whole case and thermal solution, but it's won't be very practical to build such system unless the main purpose is to brag about how many cores you jam in the case.

    • @Geopirate3
      @Geopirate3 Před 4 lety +6

      This is Xeon only, so the AMD equivalent would be Epyc. They launched 64 core/128 thread Epyc a couple days before this video dropped...what a coincidence. I'm sure ASRock will have an ITX motherboard for that in the next few months. Not sure if it will be featured on this channel though.

    • @FlameRat_YehLon
      @FlameRat_YehLon Před 4 lety

      @@SimonWoodburyForget I think generally the case size is limited by thermal capacity most. Sure, you can have very small smart phones, but if you want to stack them up and run them like a computing farm, it's another story. Therefore it's probably best to just have a regular size case if there is enough room.
      And about portability, I think it'll become pointless when the form factor requires mandatory external cooling. Other than that, it's really just, how many people would actually need a portable render farm in a box. Therefore, portable small form factor computer with 5GHz i7 is probably a good idea (it's useful, which I guess you already agreed), portable small form factor 112 core quad Xeon, well, not really (even if someone can afford it I don't think it's really worth the trouble as it likely won't improve workflow).
