the edvard's tentacles chain/cull the weak explosion was pretty great ngl and i never realized how weird halsin's reactivity is with killing isobel since i usually just ignore him lol

Maybe they didn't had enough time to really flesh him out. He has his one story and that's it. Minsc on the other hand - while only in the game for the last act - is just great. His lines are so incredible. He, too, has only one little quest but he fun to be around. Maybe it's that Minsc works in Baldur's Gate, while Halsin has no connection to the city at all. It would have been completely OK, if he stayed in the cursed lands / freed lands or returned to the grove after act II. Viewed from the outsider perspective except maybe for Astarion no sane companion would voluntarily stay with someone who is a Slayer for Bhaal. It's just too ridiculous. But the developers have to make it work, so some strange dialogues are unavoidable. 😂
I haven't actually ever had Minsc in my party, I just have a hard time with that hamster. I should check him out in some run, see what the hype is all about 😅Must be a special kind of person to want to stick around a Bhaal cultist. Big agree on the thought that companions could leave/stay behind, would make sense too I think. I mean Halsin want to help out Tav/Durge but obviously he feels strongly about the lands in Act 2. 🤔 Never really had him in Act 3 before though so we'll see what he's about there! If he don't leave the party before that is! 🤣
I always figured it as the companions weighing the risk of staying in a camp with the Slayer against the certainty of ceremorphosis. Once they leave the protection radius of the astral prism, they either die or transform into mind flayers. Halsin and Jaheira are the only companions who can leave without repercussion. If you don't kill Isobel by the quest deadline, the Urge compels you to kill your most beloved companion if you fail your save. The following morning, you get one chance to deceive the rest of the party about the death, and if you fail then all of them attack you. So that's their line in the sand. They risk the slayer as long as Durge is in control enough to not kill one of them.
@@sammyisanoctopus Good point. Although Gale and Astarion can leave the party based on some player decisions, so it is not so cut and clear. On the other hand, a Durge run is somewhat special. I'll wait till patch #7 to leave my comfort zone of balance and go for some wild rides. ☺
My character's approval with Halsin was "very high" by the time she killed Isobel that when she asked him how she was doing, he said something like, "I've been unfair to you. I had very high expectations of you, but you've surpassed even those." Suspension of disbelief popped. On the other hand, if Halsin is in your party when you kill Orin and become Bhaal's Chosen, when Jaheira confronts you and asks your companions if they'll join her, Halsin might reply that he still has hope that you can be saved from Bhaal and that he won't give up on you. But I've only seen that in other videos, not in my own game.
You're 100% right about that. The decision tree for the game must be absolutely crazy big. Regardless of that you're right that it's bound to be "off" at places. Never had Halsin in my party for that long, will try to keep him around as long as possible. I honestly thought he would leave after this fight so who knows, maybe he'll be around for Act 3!
@@FriendlyLich yeah I get your view, I think it is because he looks like he has been skinned that he creeps me out so much. I get why a diobolical evil entity who is the spawn of a god would have a servant... and he has some funny dialogue!

I'm just about to enter the same fight with Paladin-Warlock solo, no summons beside shuffle. I have no plans for it yet, but since it's tactician mode, I can try things out. So many enemies at once is challenging, without AoE spells. Maybe I use some scrolls. However, I am pretending before Jaheira, so my task is even harder, because she should survive and attack me with Minsc later in Act3 after accepting Bhaal.
Yeah without AoE it's gonna be tough. Maybe you could try kiting it through Last Light Inn and make use of the different floors. Like jump up/down and such. That will of course be very hard with Jaheira around. If you have access to Mage Hand maybe you could keep her up by throwing big healing potions on her. Let me know how it goes! Good luck :)
If you free Aylin in the Shadowfell, and then go back to Last Light before taking a long rest and before going to Moonrise, Isobel will greet you and tell you Jaheira and the others went to Moonrise. You're given the opportunity to kill her then. Jaheira and most of the Harpers won't be there. This also avoids having to deceive Jaheira about killing Isobel. So you won't have to worry about keeping Jaheira alive, but you also won't have her assistance. On the other hand, maybe you don't want to free Aylin. If Aylin is alive, you have to worry about rescuing her from Ketheric in the Myrkul boss fight. 🤔
@@FriendlyLich It turned out to be surprisingly easy once I first applied old, good barrelmancy ;). I put explosive barrels in a few places, which halved the amount of enemies. Then I realized, the ones that stayed, had low AC and low hitting chance, so they were very easy to hit and basically, I could finish it unharmed (for example with darkness spell, but was also OK without it). The bigger problem was Jaheira who died rapidly, often killing herself by casting thunder while standing on the water. It was like, she was doing fine, then in one turn she was suddenly dead. I tried a few times but in the end, had to sacrifice two action points to heal her and that was enough for her to survive the whole fight. The entire fight was very satisfying, because enemies couldn't really hit me, while I crit a lot, so I could feel the power ;). Then I met the Githyanki ambush, and it wasn't that rosy, because one of them saw through magical darkness and was constantly eldritch blasting me, while I couldn't attack him directly and had to rely on my eldritch blasts, then they were constantly reviving as undeads but I couldn't control them, because they were lvl 9, while I was lvl 8. I burned a lot of health potions and darkness scrolls to survive it.

Hopefully patch 7 drops soon. It's probably more content than the ending but I specifically want to reach the new ending with this run.
