- John's appearance on the last day of KHJ's Superstar Week is such a unique & enjoyable side of Lennon. Nothing else quite captures how he is here . . freewheeling thru phone-calls and spinning tunes. Lifelong fans already know well his humor from interviews, The Beatles Christmas Discs, and other sources . . . but this is different.
I never knew how much of this I'd heard from "The Lost Lennon Tapes" in the late 80's, but after downloading "Walls & Bridges Revisited" I discovered I'd only known about 70% of it.
My chosen lossless source turned-out to be missing one track ( 20. Intro For Elton / Tobias #4 / News Break / Calls 'Have You Heard The Word' / Intro Into ) but I managed to find & reconstruct most of it from yet another source. And besides, it's not "Have You Heard The Word ?" the caller asks about, but another Beatleg entirely.
I am rather thrilled that both parts fit so perfectly into 2 15 minute segments btw ! . . just some meant-to-be once again.
Listen and learn . . . Listen to this treasure . . Listen in a newly fashioned flow that it deserves, along with some artwork for the video I loved working up !
If you want any of the artwork yourself, here's a FaceBook photo folder : album.php?aid...
And perhaps an mp3 of this "newly fashioned flow" ? : www.mediafire.com/?v4prvn155pd...
Part 2 : www.mediafire.com/?n98hs04q93p... - Zábava
I tidied my room listening to this; this is the most brilliant thing I've listened to in a while. Liam Gallagher said he listens to John Lennon to beat the blues, and its true, John Lennon will make you happier and make your day better and your life. John Lennon will always be one of my heroes.
I find it the opposite. I’m a lot like John so I I can’t listen to John when I’m blue. I need the opposite - Paul.
Ye’re absolutely right. I was 10 tears old in Feb. o’ 1964, when the Beatles did the Ed Sullivan show. Before ‘64, me memories are in black n’ white; afterwards they’re in colour. I had a “record player,” a wee boxy thing that would play 45s (45 rpm). I taped a penny to the tonearm so it’s tusk-like needle could dig into the grooves. I bought “Love Me Do” (side A) / “P.S. I Love You” - when they hit the shelves.
I grew up with these lads and their phenomenal music… they helped me discover LSD and the noble weed. John was me fave. I’ve accumulated their entire corpus on well-tended vinyl. McCartney III is playing now… I feel blessed and joyfully grateful.
@@jennywren9068- Aye, same here dear Jenny.
That "lost weekend" was magic.
@ddjdd wfgggb Yes, exactly. Like May Pang said of it, 'it wasn't so lost'. Indeed, May.
Lennon was perfect for a radio show like this. He had that quick wit down perfectly.
Listening to this makes me miss him more and more. I loved his wit!!
I remember listening to this when he was on. I was 10 years old and didn't have the nerve to try and call in.
This is a real treasure! Imagine being one of those kids who called in and got to speak to him!
Thank you John Lennon for all you gave to the world
He was a natural. Aw,my sweet Johnny,I miss you so much.
He's fine 💓👁
The guy was extremely quick witted.
Is
What a great great man he was
IS
What a beautiful, funny, sweet, alive person he was.
Yes very much alive at the time of this interview
@Danny Pound, I couldn't agree more.
Holy shit he's good at this! He could have had his own radio show!
He does. We do.
I remember this so well....I even I even fobbed off at school so I could hear the entire thing. I recorded it with my tape cdeck, but sadly those cassettes disappeared years ago, so to find even a snippet of this is beyond a treat for me.
I swear to God that voice gives me an eargasm! Aaaaah Johnny💔💔💔💔
Relax
God, I loved him
Love how cute he sounds when he say "and I love you" sounds so adorable ❤
This was a scream! He was so funny! He handled the nervous callers really sweetly.
I love it when he told the guy from Simi valley, that it all sounds a bit 'seamey'. Lmao!! John was one of a kind. 😎
Just short of mania: he was perfect.
Loved how he could play pretty much anything he wanted, but KHJ was that kind of a station, where you could hear the Osmonds, then the next song would be Led Zeppelin. Unusual for an AM station to do that. It was great! This was the station I listened to as a kid in Southern California in the '70's:)
Funny how he sounds so comfortable as a DJ even when doing the commercials.
Why? He's a pro
Lennon being funny and with his wit humor lol!
Man i wish i could have been down there when this magic occurred. Have been to the place where KHJ was. It is sad realizing that John and a great station are both gone. He made a great dee jay.
And, no more Tower Records. Progress. Hrmph!
Listening to this for the first time. He is so damn spontaneously funny. He sure is missed...still after 40 years.
Not by me! 💓👁
I love how when he’s making fun of the caller for sharing the name “John”, the kid thanks him for his contribution to music, and you can see John is slightly taken aback by this and he thanks him straightly. What a man!
Namaste John....
'And, I'm a big fan of yours'! Lmao. One-of-a-kind, our John.
10:11 *scottish accent* "it looks great with a kilt, too!" LOLOLOL oh John... :,)
I remember this day so well I was 10 years old and we were so excited thank you so much for sharing I'm from Newport Beach California but we were living in Anaheim I believe he was that khj all week
Holy FUCK his quick wit
This is sooo great, thank you so much for the upload. John is so funny!
Just listening to John reading Ads is hilarious
“Come on, we got 2 seconds here and we got bread to sell!”🤣🤣
I remember very much listening to 93 KHJ in Los Angeles. I never heard this though. Thanks so much for posting this!!!
Cannot believed i had never heard it before. Always ah special day when one stumbles upon Lennon one had never heard before.
My deepest, endless pleasure.
Hope you went on into part 2 . . . many don't seem to have the time in this busy, modern "whirled", and it deserves as many views as it's "brother".
It's got loads of great bits all it's own !
O, you've no IDEA...😘
ohh so glad someone recorded this...and now we can all hear him rip john
Hardly at rest 👁🙏
Love this
Fucking genius. I am crying from laughter.
WOW! He was a Natural. Even though it would be WAY below what he was (Musical/Songwriting Genius/Artist), he could've easily become a Legendary Shock Jock Radio Personality. He would've been A Lot more "Clever/Witty" than Howard Stern.
The station engineer thought John was offended by playing a Wings song. John thought nothing of it and commented he liked Monkberry Moon Delight as a comeback.
ddjdd wfgggb Wasn’t this during the the “fued” between him and Paul?
ddjdd wfgggb I can totally believe that. The media loves things like that. it really is tragic in a way, because even to this day,Paul has to continually remind himself that he and John were friends, not enemies like the media likes to portray them as being.
@@barbaranelson8617 Exactly right. Their 'feud', lasted a little over a year, after the disillusion of the band.
John, was always goofing around during, taped interview. Showcasing a bit. He missed his calling to become a legend 👓✌
Gold. Fucking gold man.
Thanks for sharing this
He does believe in Beatles.
I miss that Tower Records. Bought many items from there an have many wonderful memories. Technology has cost another tragedy. This complete interview is now in the Smithsonian Institute
"Shave your pimples and what's your request?"...(Classic John)
Thanks for posting.
I miss Tower on Sunset. Such a Mecca.
Caller.." please play Cold Turkey"
John Lennon " Ok..hope you haven't got it.". 😂😂😂...John Incredible wit..😂😂😂😂
6:40 for the Walls and Bridges Radio Spot.
"it's a pleasure John… I hope you'll do the same for me when mine comes out"
And he DID too !!
"Let's get married"
(Incredibly flustered) "oh well, give me your green card!" 😂
“Hello Mark” … sort of eerie in a way
0:47 "he does believe in them.....".....'74 was John's brief renaissance year, no Yoko, happy, back on course....if only things stayed that way :-(
Wunnerful !
Hope you went on to the equally rewarding yet deeper Part 2 . . . . :
He was a natural.
1 word: DAMN??? !!!
John F Lennon
Amazing sharp wit.
I'd like to play some mind games lol
I own a copy of imagine that john autographed on this date at the KHJ Radio Station.
Tower Records, where you can find a coupla drunk pop stars. 😂
Great ! . . so pleased you enjoyed.
Were you maybe one of the few who went on to Part 2 ?
Oh Goodie . .
In this modern whirled "in which we live in", almost nobody has time for nuthin' ! . . . and a lot of the best moments are in part too.
True story !
I like how he pronounced the name of the street, Sepulveda. 😊
@tblzq2; The song that's just beginning at 4:02 is Stevie Wonders "You Haven't Done Nuthin' ".
Few songs of righteous indignation have ever been as powerful and just plain groovin' at a gut level !!
Have you listened 4 times yet ?

By 1974 KHJ and AM in particular was being "taken over" by FM album rock stations like 94.7 KMET and 95.5 KLOS in L.A. and pretty much everywhere else. It would have been a much different "vibe" if this had been broadcast on KMET instead of KHJ.
“I thought that was an adlib from Elton. Dot dot dot,”
💀💀💀
♥️🎤🎤♥️
Biggest Beatles fan of all!
Yes Harry, but who do you mean ?
You ?
Me ??
or maybe John ?
That comes across during this, ceratinly
DmRofAtoZ John
Sure. . love that one. Just one-on-one with the DJ, rather then taking calls & slinging wax and everything that goes with being at a hyped-at morning show.
Totally different environment and pace on the AM station !
It's a freakin treasure. Ty so much for this upload. I hadn't heard this in years.
Oh, that was hilarious!!!
'Oh well sure, gimme me green card' haha
Tobias tops and trooosers
"...well shave your pimples and what's your request?"
KHJ was the BOSS Station back in the day but it's a Catholic religious broadcasting station now. All Things Must Pass I suppose.
Wonder what happened to the Tobias stores.
totally enjoyed this but i have a great bootleg that he did at wnew in new york, where he seemed to enjoyed himself more, and did not seem so arrogant. he seemed more at ease in new york. can you find this wherever your at, worth a listen. great job and thanks a bunch.
daniel doiron Don't you think that was Lennons defence mechanism at play. He was supposed to be so insecure, it was all bravado.
@@1RowYourBoatGently He was terrific and would've made a helluva dj, if he wanted to. Charismatic, funny, quick, etc. Only one John Lennon. The only other famous rock/pop figure who I think would've come close to being this good is, another Beatle, Ringo Starr.
does anybody know the name of the song at 04:02?
Superstitious
@@thomastrep You Haven't Done Nothin'
he was 35 here
@ddjdd wfgggb He was 33 and 1/3rd. J/k. More like almost 34. His birthday is the following month,Oct 9.
No yoko!!
Nothing much? That sounds terrible. Wash yer hair, you’ll always feel better.
Quality advice there
Eat your heart out Paulie boy !!!
