I too need these teaching lessons, they seem obvious to me so I struggle to break it down into kid-friendly pieces. Would it be too much to take in if I teach a grade 2 ,that’s somewhat familiar but struggling to read, all these sight words at once ? How much time & how many words are enough to digest at once ?

This is such a good question, thank you for bringing this up @tefomollo.
1. Nope, this is not too much to take in for a grade 2 child, but they do need to know their letter sounds before this and be phonologically aware. This just means being aware of and having the ability to understand & hear parts of speech so well that they can easily do things like;
a. Hear how many words are in a spoken sentence
b. Being able to identify what sound words start and end with
c.Being able to break words up into parts, etc.
These are purely done through listening, so even a child who doesn't know how to hold a pencil can be taught this- checkout tiktok for this playlist.
2. There is actually a resource you can download on our FB group- @TeacherMichelleCaps where I have broken this down with the first 100 CAPS recommended words.
So, if you use that document chances are its aligned to what your child is currently expected to know at school.
3. Do 2-4 words with your child up until they are confident in sounding out the word + spelling it correctly because they know the sounds that make up that word that well. This can take up to 2-3 weeks with some children depending on age.
