- A 5 minutes improvement over my previous run and a pretty decent time.
This run was pretty good with the bombs and I played it safe from the temple and onwards to secure the run, the ice caves were a bit annoying to the wet fur levels and an early ball and chain (when there was one in the moai level).
I almost don't go into the mothership, leaving the chance of getting a Temple coffin, which should be faster but only has around a 11% chance of spawning. - Hry

nem tudom we’ve all been there at one point, there was a time I thought that getting to the jungle was the most impressive thing I’ve ever done in a video game.
I HATED the jungle level but when I got the shortcut I felt like I could do a backflip but when I first got to the ice world I instantly stepped on a mine but I was happy I got it (sorry long comment)
Killing shopkeepers was a stepping stone for me, with that I went from struggling to reach Ice Caves to consistently going through to temple
Can you give some advice on the worm level, I want to unlock him but I keep on getting killed

Never realized how eerie this game is without music...
God damn it. Spelunky is the first game where I got all the achievements and I've played it for hours.
Only now I realize the complexities it takes to get the eggplant boss. I hadn't considered the necessity of having to break the Easter island statue or of a second player having to carry the wand.
All this on a keyboard, no less. My hat off to you!
Why the aversion toward the climbing glove though?
A little late response but speedrunners dont pick up climbing gloves because they and get stuck on wall and loose time
@@liampundsack3187 a little late reply for me too, another reason is that its very annoying and it has ended a bunch of runs

what happened with the robot getting stunned when you threw him at the elevator block and ice block?
it's a bug where if you throw people at certain types of blocks with pitcher's mitt, they will levitate.
The reason why i think it happens is because normally if you throw stuff with pitcher's mitt, the stuff will fly in a straight line until they hit a wall, but since those aren't considered as real blocks but as objects the game doesn't remember to restore its normal physics
Throwing people will cause them to get stunned until they land and rest on the ground for a few seconds
I had that happen to me with the ball and chain; I had thought it was implemented to stop one from breaking into the moai head.

Struggles to beat Yama
The game is hard tbh, consider that speedrunners not only have played this game for hundreds or even thousands of hours, these videos are just the runs that actually made it there.
Yeah, yama was quite hard for me because I barely had bombs. And also I was wanted. I had a freeze ray and jetpack. Thanks a lot to my brother because he made me lose this fight. If it wasn't for him I would've beaten him.
I use golden monk because that's my favorite character.
I've had over 3300 runs/deaths.....35 wins (olmec) and 1 special win. So I've only beat yama ONCE. And only been to hell 3 times. I've probably been pretty lucky to beat yama considering I've only been to hell that much

@no no Are you talking about how to rescue the unlockable character stuck in the bottom of the worm? If yes then hopefully this helps......my method was to just keep using the shortcuts. I would either start in the jungle or ice caves to save a bit of time. Try to get as many bombs in crates before you get the damsel. Ideally you find a shop to Rob before entering the worm (ice caves are better for this as the shopkeeper usually kills himself)..... Then it's just case of spam and repeat until you get a decent randomly generated level....... Sure there's better advice out there but this is how a average player like myself has to deal with that situation lol

Holy shit that takes some skill... I've been trying to do an eggplant run myself but I dont have the extra characters dlc (I'm on xbox) and that includes the robot dlc do you have any advice for doing an eggplant run with only hired hands?
Or should I reset my save and try and get a temple coffin?
@@pringlepenguin2448 there is no DLC. He reset his characters so he could get a coffin and have the unlocked character hold it for him

@@TheLamentedStar I dont really understand it... Microsoft definitely pushed it or something because Derek talked about having a bad experience with them in his book and since I'm trying to buy dlc for an 360 game on xbox one it wont let me just kinda annoying

It's a custom skin that can be found online mossmouth.com/forums/index.php?topic=3979.0 you can have it in your Spelunky by using Patchlunky, but it will replace one of the other characters

why didn't you take the climbing gloves
The gloves are really nice for score runs, but in a speedrun they can get in the way and get you stucked when you just want to go fast, so I don't take them in those cases

Why is the Robot suspended in 8:20?
It's a bug that happens with the pitcher mitt and a player (or hired hand) bouncing off a moveable block.

Fun fact - Spelunky's skeleton walking animation is the same to la-mulana's skeleton walking animation, so its a big La-mulana (i think so) easter egg, here proof, spelunky - 2009, la-mulana - 2005, and also the jumping (i think so 1 legged) enemies have the same animation like enemies from infinity corridor level 3 in the same la-mulana

You can set the damsel to random in the settings, you get a different one each level.

I realized I can step on bats on roofs but not the floating robot glitch
It's kind of a bug caused by the way the pitcher's mitt works, and only works against moveable blocks (pushblocks, falling platforms, thwomps, etc)

Why did he take the robot
So the robot could hold the gold scepter. No robot means he’d have to leave the eggplant behind to take it to the door (which means no eggplant run) or leave the scepter behind (no hell)
