    Is Patrick Mahomes the GOAT after he just secured his third Super Bowl win?

    • @KevinJL
      @KevinJL Před 3 měsíci +14

      He's matching up TB 12 back to back and the OT clutch gene. He's Sidney Crosby on a perpetual power play. Mahomes with 4 downs is basically death row.

    • @retrocny5625

      Even non chiefs fans know. That defense is special. I've always loved Spags. I'm a Giants fan, he was my DC in 07 and 11 for our super bowls. In those years it was the same thing, he created some of the most fearsome pass rushes with guys like Strahan, Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora, Jason Pierre Paul, Mathias Kiwanuka, I still remember all the guys on that d line and what Spags did with them, including defeating the perfect Patriots. He is the driving force behind the Giants winning those two super bowls and I'll say that until the day I die.
      I've said for a long time he's the best DC in football. Even when the Giants were struggling in their down years when he was there, and the NY media was killing him saying everyone should be fired... I always believed in him and felt like if you give him the personnel, some good athletes that are coachable, he'll turn them into monsters. I'll be the first to admit that I wanted to see the 49ers win tonight. They haven't won a championship in 30 years and the Chiefs just won one last year. I'm a bit sentimental like that, I would've loved to see Brock Purdy, the last draft pick, win a ring. Same with Kyle Shanahan who I feel deserves one since he's a great coach. But on the flip side of that, I'm thrilled to see Spags getting rewarded for his hard work. He deserves all the respect and credit he's getting.

    Chiefs special teams were a huge factor. Butker was nails while the Niners blew a PAT and muffed a punt. Townsend as both punter and holder did a great job. And the defense held them to 19 in regulation - it wasn't just 15, but man he was the MVP, no doubt!

    • @retrocny5625
      @retrocny5625 Před 3 měsíci +9

      I think you can make a case that Chris Jones deserved it just as much as Pat. I genuinely think Chris Jones saved them in this game. On multiple occasions, coming up with huge plays to stop the niners from converting on downs in the red zone. They get those conversions, they win the game.
      Those two 3rd down stops, one in regulation and one in OT that forced the niners into field goals were huge. Especially the one in regulation because if the Niners get the 1st down there, they would've forced KC to use all 3 of their timeouts and likely scored a touchdown with little time remaining. It would've been very hard for the Chiefs to go all the way down the field with no timeouts and probably about 1 minute left to score a touchdown. Chris Jones prevented that. He also disrupted a pass from Purdy in the redzone that would've been a wide open touchdown, but he hit him on the throw and it made him miss his receiver. Same thing Chris Jones did to Josh Allen in the divisional game, when Allen had a wide open receiver in the endzone for the late go-ahead TD and Jones hit him on the throw and caused him to short-arm it.
      Chris Jones is such a major aspect of this defense and he flat out wins them games. The Chiefs aren't blowing anyone out this year. This isn't the same explosive offense it used to be. Yet they win games, and its guys like Chris Jones they have to thank for it. Everyone points to McDuffie and Sneed but Chris Jones is without a doubt the biggest game-wrecker on that defense. They better find a way to pay him everything he wants, because this defense looks a lot different without him on it imo. Or now that he's got 3 rings, he may decide to go somewhere else, a team with a lot more cap room, who can afford to sign him to a huge long-term deal. He's got his rings, he may look to sign a huge deal since he won't have too many more opportunities to do so. And there will be teams who want him for whatever price he commands. Chiefs have to hope they can find a way to keep him.

      YEA, I WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE!!! I didn't quite agree w/ Chris Long's take. Did they make mistakes ?! Absolutely BUT I also wldn't say they were EXACTLY like they played all season?!?! In the 2nd half the 49ers made A LOT of mistakes 2!!! AND the Chiefs defense wz AMAZING in the 2nd half BUT also the Defense NOT only in the 2nd half BUT also in OT whn the 49ers had possession of the ball!!! I said a similar comment after 2 sum1 abt the Ravens game, that 4 sum reason, if the offense is struggling, than the team is automatically looking bad, 4 lack of a better word. BUT it's A TEAM SPORT, & the defense is vital 2 their game!!! And they played pretty great, were able 2 shut them down during the 2nd half & stopping Brock Purdy in OT!!! Their kicker, what, broke a record 4 the longest field goal!!! When it counted they came thru, BUT yes, Patrick Mahomes & Jones in particular were key!!!

      @@retrocny5625I think ppl do pt 2 Chris Jones too!!! BUT again I wholeheartedly agree with what u said!!! I think in general that their defense wzn't getting the recognition they observed during the season. Chris Jones shut Lamar Jackson down very similarly as he did with Brock Purdy esp in the 2nd half!!! W/ Sneed, the incredible play against the Ravens whn he punched the ball out of Flowers hands in the 2nd half of that game wz friggin' unbelievable, otherwise it wld've been a TD!!! I'm proud of the younger guys who made TDs!!! ( But w/ Chris Jones, I saw footage, in which the Refs missed something Ravens game. It wz another roughing call!!! 1 of their guys tripped Chris Jones!!! I can c why the Refs missed it. I ONLY saw it, cuz a few days later, I saw that another camera caught it, b/c if its angle, b/c typically u c Chris Jones' back. BUT I also agree that Patrick Mahomes wz definitely the SB MVP!!! ( I wz a little worried about this game, though I wouldn't bet against Patrick Mahomes!!!) It was mostly due to the vets the 49ers had on their team!!! I didn't think this game was going 2b easy at all!!!

Two: the niners were making the consistent plays but couldn’t make the gotta have it plays whereas the chiefs weren’t making the consistent plays but made every single gotta have it play down the stretch defensively to hold them and then the offense when they had to have it.

    My only concern coming into the game was the Chiefs reverting to who they've been in their losses: flat playcalling, the inability to finish drives (especially 3&outs in bad moments), and self-inflicted issues. And it didn't look good. I felt at half that it would be a game that the defense and special teams would have to make the difference in for us to win and that the offense would need to put together 2 successful drives. It really is the Mahomes factor that he made it happen with zero room for error.

    Great take as always. As many other analyst have also pointed out, SB games boil down to QB talent on each side. On one side you have a pretty decent rookie QB that completed 58% of his passes, did not turn ball over and did enough to win against most team. On the side you have QB who completed nearly 75% of his passes AND was the leading rusher for his team. Mahomes is simply at a different level and that final drive is one drive I'll never forget as a Chiefs fan.

Experience showed up in the clutch. This was the best team win in the Mahomes era.
    To be fair, I felt Greenlaw going out changed the game. As a lifelong KC fan I felt for him and did not like that at all. Its unfair and it impacted the game

    NFL football is the most pure team sport in the world. You need all phases working in conjunction with others. KC offense has leveled off, but the defense has leveled up 7x and the special teams and kicking game is top notch. Mahomes stats look like they are down, but he knows not to force anything, because the defense will step up and get the ball back. The most important thing, get the win, stats be damned. In the end, you won't remember how down the offense was, you will only remember they were the champs.

      Definitely, chiefs hadn't scored a td up to that point ( 10 - 6 pts) and the niners were gonna get it with 3 mins left in the 3rd. They lost possession, chiefs gained ridiculous field position setting up a 1 play momentum swing TD, and the play was objectively random with the ball hitting an unaware player on the back of the leg. It was one of the craziest swing plays I've seen and in absolutely the worst context for the niners.
      This might sound ridiculous but I'm still processing how f***** dumb-lucky that was.. to think the niners with their long road to the SB.. losing the first one and the nfc championship game against the rams, and the trey Lance situation and all of that... and to have it swing hard on such a random thing. That's sports for you

    Chris, everything you said can be summed up with "That's Football!" We've never seen anything else. What happened in Superbowl 58 happens in every game in one way or another. The team with most points has ALWAYS WON. No one cheated and both teams TRIED TO WIN. The Chiefs are good at the end of big games, and play to stay close til then. To beat them I guess teams have to do that as well. At their best, Mahomes and Kelce and Jones and Pacheco look and play just as they did in little league games. It shows on their faces.
