Sgt. Savage Finding the right music was tough for this. I knew anything I personally made wouldn't hit the emotional level it needed. One night in a hotel room I came across the Orca soundtrack, and listened to it probably 5 times through! As for Rowan, this story is almost unbelievable. I asked if it was any good, and she said yeah, he's from New Zealand! AND they met in Antarctica! He's the coolest dude. He's also a documentary camera man.
Thought his voice sounded legit. Would love see some of the documentaries he's done camera work on even though I wouldn't see him, just for the hell of it. Good choice, such an awesome character deserved an authentic New Zealander.
Was a refreshing aproach to see things from the thing perspective at some points to understand it better.... Nic work on this comic.... Hope there are more to come.
The whole concept that makes John Carpenters The Thing Terrifying is it has no feelings , it just invades, Duplicates, Kills and takes over, No feelings whatsoever.
I'm not sure it was a good idea to show things from the Thing's point of view, mainly because I always imagined the creature (or creatures, if you treat every separated body as a fully indipendent entity) to possess a sense of self separated from its victims' memories, basically obtaining every bit of the most intimate information about a person as a tool to play their parts, instead of fully becoming one with them as shown in this story, to the point of sharing their feelings. This way kinda feels to me like a different creature from the one we saw in Carpenter's movie.
I agree. However, comics have always done this - different, non-canonical takes of the material. There's some other Thing comics done like this on CZcams, and so far this is the only one that has tried to explore the inner nature of the Thing. I consider that kind of a take a more bold and interesting. That being said, it is a compromise. The original Thing is scary because it is so alien. In Carpenter's movie, exposed Thing never uttered a single word, for example. If you try to give it dialogue or even inner thoughts in a comic form, it stops being as alien as it is - when it thinks in English to itself like in this comic. The other part is, as you mentioned, this creature doesn't feel the same. In the movie's world, it simply wanted to assimilate everything. There was no identity or any kind of sense of individuality between the different organisms that were part of it. Not at least in the human terms. But, a comic cannot do the same things as a movie...a movie can build atmosphere and narrative structure in ways a comic cannot do the stories have to be adapted in different ways.
I did understand it i just thought it was stupid the things are sinister aliens hellbent on assimilating all life i don't want to feel sympathetic towards them this comic takes away the feeling of horror and mystery to them
+Brown_Boy I thought that it added to it since the consciousness of all the assimilated life was integrated and when it came down to it the thing only wanted food. I dont view this story as canon personally but it was interesting ideas.
I think the scariest thing is to imagine that they are walking around among us, but theres nothing there. There are no actual thoughts, no personality, just pure survival instincts. The thought that its barely an actual creature, more along the likes of a fungus. That scares the shit out of me and this is ruined by any POV from the thing.
Wayment...the "THING" has evolved and has escaped the Antarctic? This should be a live tv series. Hell they tried it with many others like "The Mist" for example but this will be good.
In this comic the thing continues to manipulate itself cause in antartic everything is frozen and no microorganism had ever lived. Now the thing must be the real weakness is not fire but being frozen, the fire used to stop the thing from infecting other but not killing it.
I like that they said the thing wasn't out to take over the whole world because it would starv itself. Since it can make space crafts, I wonder how the thing has worked out how much of a planet it wants to take
Absolutely loved it thankyou very much for this lovly motion adaptation to the comic and amazing voice acting and direction to each n every character 💖true credits to Voice actors
Truly Amazing 😁💙 The voice acting, the creature sound affects, the music, everything was great! The Thing was different in this comic, which I'm starting to love now. I always knew The Thing to be a extremely deadly alien creature & all about blood, horror, & distress, BUT when they change it up a bit involving romance its actually nice👍 I just wished The Thing's forms would've been more bloody & more terrifying than just being purple & lots of tentacles. Either way outstanding guys😄
"Human self... Couldn't... Resist." Do remember that the alien replicates the victim's cells, memories, and physique to become a perfect copy. So humanizing it makes sense. It's greatest strength IS it's biggest fault. Just like Norris-thing copying the heart condition & the biomass submitting to the condition. From what we see in the comics and movies, it's very likely that humans are a first time experience. Humanity is a concept that it doesn't fully understand (that doesn't mean it isn't sentient!), yet that doesn't stop humanity from being infectious in the thing's POV. The thing has likely only infected other organisms that run purely on instinct, so imitating something like a human being would come with the flaw of humanity conflicting with the instincts of itself and it's own sentience. Here's a well written fanfic of the prequel movie showing how one of the thing's view humanity (although it isn't finished). m.fanfiction.net/s/7476189/1/The-Thing-Human-Nature I also appreciate how the thing doesn't find humanity to be a thorn in it's side, but rather something that should be enjoyed "before the memory... Fades... Forever." It suggests that the humanity it experienced was truly memorable and unique considering what the thing usually does. It makes the thing much more than some one-dimensional, ravenous, sadistic animal with only self-defense and spreading in mind. One dimesional killers have overstayed their welcome in my eyes, I'm all for character development with appropriate reasons. The thing coming into contact with humanity on a psychological level is good enough for me!
But doesn't that anime version of 'the thing' exist? called parasyte or something? 'The Thing' is better without those concepts. I don't see the thing as 1 dimensional, maybe in its goal of assimilating, but adding in romance between things just drops the 'horror' angle altogether. If the thing can be romantic and emotional, then it can be reasoned with. So eventually we could have a diplomatic conversation and learn to co-exist with them right? Truly terrifying I tell ya. Imagine if Jason Voorhees just got a bit of counseling over his mothers death, learned to move on and live life as an immortal, undying groundskeeper. Eventually he gets married, has a family, do you see what I mean? You have every right to enjoy this comic for what it i, but in my eyes, it was a tacky, sexualized bit of overtly perverse fanfiction, far more interested in having dozens of panels worth of partial nudity and innuendo than telling a horror story. "Human self... Couldn't... resist..." - The illustrator when he showed his publisher just how much sexual content made it into the final cut.
Krokodil Thanks! The man who played Sgt. Rowan is actually from New Zealand! And the woman who played Jennifer is an opera singer/singing and voice acting coach.
i... honestly i am confuse now .: the **thing** is so weird like it mimic the personnality but to compromise itself like that (jenny and powell romance if you will) it feels ... off like there is more to it than just a virus that want to survive and adapt ....this comic is so strange .
I knew that music from somewhere, Orca, another one of my favorite movies. So these comic books were going to be the sequel to John Carpenter's The Thing, the 2011 movie was a prequel. They're good, but they don't do that movie Justice, those practical monster effects shock the hell out of me when I first saw them in 1982, 40 years ago.
35:58 Everything movie, game, books related topic of thing explain here and you. Edit : here’s something funny. When I got to my during our honeymoon 36:28
I like this comic, but compared to the others, it seemed too tame to be apart of the Thing lore. I'm glad we got to see things from it's perspective, but it's not scary seeing it express so many emotions and also refrain from assimilating at times.
The problem in those stories is the infection factor...setting the alien thing in a city or a jungle means the end of humanity. Setting the whole story in an isolated place like Antarctica where the virus spread slower, due to the temperature, is more manageable in terms of realism. Fact is, the thing is already unstoppable. Go figure here! And yes, I agree with the no compassion factor. It's an alien organism that act like a survivor...but also like a DNA collector. What's that story anyways? A love story between two alien organisms? :) The thing spread the cells to just increasing the chances of taking over any terrestrial life form. Also, the movie never explained this as surviving factor for the thing itself or just a way to defend against who attack. Like we saw in the prequel movie also, splitting factor is just strategical. It is exactly like playing a chess game against something that can duplicate the pieces once killed yours. And the only way to win is to stop the infection with a containment...which means blowing up an entire research base with no survivors left. Just exactly when we saw in beginning with Mac and chess computer game. The only way to stop a bugged software/cheater is to kill it. He does materially twice due his temper ;) Even froze to death is a huge risk as we think about the possible post situations. Becoming a virus incubator is even worst than killing yourself before a cell of that organism can reach you.
I don't know if this could be a plausible theory but I think the Thing is convincing the woman that it is her husband to let it get control of her and use it to make more hosts
I do wonder one thing... does this thing evolve?... Basically, we have seen The Thing as a relentless creature whose only concern is hide and reproduce. But, I do wonder, if it actually doesn't also evolve with its prey? For instance... with a Love that strong as Powell and Jennifer's... maybe it will enrichen the creature in a way? And maybe that's exactly what started happening to it here? The creature starts developing a deeper consciousness than that of primal instinct.
@@slowmutants true enough... but you now, remember the first movie from 1982? The dog thing didn't infect that guy whom spend most time with it. It even licked him in the face, but he was not infected. The creature had plenty of time and opportunities to infect him, completely unnoticed. But it didn't.
@@PsychoticLuke Like what happen in the first comic of The Thing from Another World, when Childs is dragging Mister Unkillable through the snow. Childs doesn't even try to infect him. But wouldn't that mean that The Thing chooses it's host? If it is, then it would contradict the natural instict of The Thing wouldn't it?
@@lightningspirit5695 That's exactly what I was thinking about. Because in the movie it seemed to be getting to ANYONE it contacts. It didn't matter. Not even the guy who had problems with the Heart (the ginger guy on table in the defibrilator scene) was spared. Save for one - and it was the one who was taking care of the dog, while it was infected. He was licked in the face, and spent more time with it than anybody in the movie. But it didn't infect him, even though it could easily have done that and got away with it. Which makes me wonder really... why does it do such a thing?
Even though the overall story is a mixed bag. Like I prefer the mindless nature of the OG thing. There is a bit of sadness with Campbell since in the end she gives up her humanity to completely. But that might just be the music
The AT4W episode explains just how wrong and contradictory this comic is with both the movie and the previous comics, but mostly the movie. This comic’s continuity is as consistent as the Resident Alice movies or Silent Hill: Revelation.
I can honestly say I hated this comic because the guy that was infected the first time he was just so boring and the best part of this comic was mccreedy I mean seriously though he is the best part of this whole series because honestly like I said just not that good
Okay wait. So if I understand this right if there are enough of the things they behave like like a hive mind? Yeah, no fuck that. One is a pain on its own, I don't want to think about what a group could do.
@@slowmutants Questionable Research was an alternate continuity that ignores the other comics. It takes place after the movie, but the other comics never happened, so Childs and Macready are dead.
@@slowmutants The writers of Eternal Vows are the delusional ones since this creature is clearly not The Thing and it contradicts the movie (some of which includes information that were outright stated in the movie like how the cells were still alive when it assimilates people and other obvious details). This is also inconsistent with the comics (Questionable Research doesn’t count because that was an alternate timeline), like how it ignores Climate of Fear while still acknowledging the first miniseries or the rule that The Thing infects people through touch. We even see a scene later on where The Thing is literally eating people through its mouths.
It's so sad how this franchise doesn't have the recognition it deserves.

It is not the first time this POV has been done
The Thing comics are considered non canonical.
I didn't really like how they made the things humanish
did you not understand it? they retained the memories but in the end it adapted to survive and left its human feelings
That scares the shit out of me and this is ruined by any POV from the thing.
my thoughts exactly
NOOOOO THE CAT T^T
Haha yeah, the cat. Poor puss.
The Thing is The "Executer Virus" From Resident Evil.
Sweet video! Love it. An interesting storyline..."It wants to live....So do i".... Perfect.
Great voice acting.
I like that they said the thing wasn't out to take over the whole world because it would starv itself. Since it can make space crafts, I wonder how the thing has worked out how much of a planet it wants to take
True the thing, itself, just tell me how smart it is,it even senses good,it even know when to ambush when people alone.
What a nice surprise to find this on my subscriptions feed, not watched it yet but I already know it will make my day.
Finally, its up! Thanks for the effort.
Parasyte is an infinitely better "the thing in the city" comic than this
Absolutely loved it thankyou very much for this lovly motion adaptation to the comic and amazing voice acting and direction to each n every character 💖true credits to Voice actors
This comic reminds me of a love-gore anime. In fact, this should be an anime.
Hey I've watched all of your videos of THE THING comics, And really loved all of them. Thanks for making such awesome videos!
Uh the helicopter goes WOCAWOCAWOCA? Who's flying, Fozzy Bear?
Yogi bear😜
I love comics..thus this is cool comic.
Great job, amazing comic. This deserves more views.
Thanks!
So the thing doesn't want to kill but. It has to to feed itself
Yes yes yes...
This is... weird. Now the lady can use The Thing virus how she wants, prevoiusly The Thing was killing instantly.
37:30 This thing is still alive!
wow, great work on this video.
Lol!!😄 The song in the end cracks me up.
That's Ennio Morricone brother! He did John Carpenter's The Thing, and The Good The Bad and The Ugly!!
@@slowmutants I'm well aware of who he is, i have his music. And The Good, The bad and The Ugly as well. Love his work.
this is amazing!
Keeper Protector This comic grew on me, the more I worked on it. I think, given it's abilities to copy humans, emotions would be a side effect.
Kindof pointless to try to contain it at this point considering it can assimilate sea life.
"Human self... Couldn't... Resist."
Do remember that the alien replicates the victim's cells, memories, and physique to become a perfect copy.
Here's a well written fanfic of the prequel movie showing how one of the thing's view humanity (although it isn't finished).
m.fanfiction.net/s/7476189/1/The-Thing-Human-Nature
I also appreciate how the thing doesn't find humanity to be a thorn in it's side, but rather something that should be enjoyed "before the memory... Fades... Forever."
It suggests that the humanity it experienced was truly memorable and unique considering what the thing usually does.
@@TATERplaysGAMES it was lily C.A.T.
this isn't much like the original creature from the movie, but it's well told at least.
I like how the music from the movie Orca is used for the somber moments
lol this story though.....
The voice acting was great, humanizing the Thing was downright stupid.
Krokodil Thanks! The man who played Sgt. Rowan is actually from New Zealand! And the woman who played Jennifer is an opera singer/singing and voice acting coach.
This comic gives the thing a more human appearance
So in the end, the last remaining Thing will likely just live like a fish for the rest of its life? Goodness this issue is weird.
Non Canon
The Thing is now a STD? WTF!!! Story needs work
Sexually transmitted demon
very cool , thx
i... honestly i am confuse now .: the **thing** is so weird like it mimic the personnality but to compromise itself like that (jenny and powell romance if you will) it feels ... off like there is more to it than just a virus that want to survive and adapt ....this comic is so strange .
Very good!
Unusual Thing story this time.
Jesus Christ this was good!
Better love story than twilight
no its just as bad
How dare you kill a cat
1 million years in the dungeon!!!
I like this comic, but compared to the others, it seemed too tame to be apart of the Thing lore. I'm glad we got to see things from it's perspective, but it's not scary seeing it express so many emotions and also refrain from assimilating at times.
That was funny, sad, and stupid
And I LOVED IT!!!!
Bubby the Buck Thanks for watching! For better or worse, haha
slowmutants no problem
Beautiful. Finally, all done. I suggest you can try do another body horror comic, Society: Party Animal .
awesome
He does materially twice due his temper ;)
Even froze to death is a huge risk as we think about the possible post situations. Becoming a virus incubator is even worst than killing yourself before a cell of that organism can reach you.
Rip puus
this all would have stopped if MacReady and his team speak norse
Sweds? I thought the other base from the movie were Norwegians
angewomon143 Yes, but Macready called them Swedes in the film.
@@slowmutants They're not Swedish Mac they're Norwegians.
Not the cat... god... not the cat. I recommend the short story done from the point of view of The Thing. While from the original base.
Macready is hero
Yeah
I think it just takes on the traits of its host til it can spread. Like a shape shifting cancer.
Would've been hilarious if this was adapted into live-action? Imagine the hammy acting of the assimilated Thing having split personality.
yes
Even though the overall story is a mixed bag. Like I prefer the mindless nature of the OG thing. There is a bit of sadness with Campbell since in the end she gives up her humanity to completely. But that might just be the music
36:36 I was infested I would say, "Kill me."
Everything from around 11:50 to 13:00 just wtf
The AT4W episode explains just how wrong and contradictory this comic is with both the movie and the previous comics, but mostly the movie. This comic’s continuity is as consistent as the Resident Alice movies or Silent Hill: Revelation.
Poor kitty T___T
I can honestly say I hated this comic because the guy that was infected the first time he was just so boring and the best part of this comic was mccreedy I mean seriously though he is the best part of this whole series because honestly like I said just not that good
Shit I can say the less killing the thing monsters with flamethrower
PURGE IN HOLY FLAME!!!
Finally 😀
derAussenseiter61 We are called The SLOW Mutants, haha!
Haha nz...I'm watching this from dunedin
FISH.
Is there another sequel?
finally, people listen to Mcready
Loved this, do you have the name of the music? Talking about the awesome track from 13.05
Is this the last comic?
lucas orozco The last to feature Macready. In 2011 Darkhorse published a digital comic called The Northman Nightmare, which is on my channel.
6k view for this?,You guys must've a very bad day.
“no, please no”
The cat dies 😿
Okay wait. So if I understand this right if there are enough of the things they behave like like a hive mind? Yeah, no fuck that. One is a pain on its own, I don't want to think about what a group could do.
Hold up! What about the bird-thing? The thing where the science crew took one of the bodies in the other comic? Or was the guy just going insane?
Hard to say. Dark Horse may have just forgotten to tell the writer / or maybe he was just delusional?
Im confused what just happened ?
Naw, I like the first and the second Thing comic is better. This one really freshed out from the canon.
Rowans a badass
Did the helicopter become Fozzy Bear?
