In the Portugal game, the US was about 3 inches away from being on an early flight home. Women's professional leagues in Europe and elsewhere have ended the US dominance initially derived from NCAA collegiate programs.
It's growing everywhere. As an example Mexican league is really growing,so much that it is recruiting young Americans (not only Mex Americans) to go to play there. NWSL needs to focus on improvement or the other leagues will end domination of American soccer
Absolutely, the US women's dominance, funded by college scholarships, is coming to an end as the rest of the world catch up. Men's football in most of these other countries is already like a religion and, as the quality of women's football improves, grass roots support for women's football will also continue to grow. This over privileged US team's arrogance and lack of appreciation for playing for their country has been on show for the whole world to see. Their time at the top of the world game is over.

I think US soccer will have a hard time ever getting back to the level they have been at. As the game has grown globally for women they have a big advantage in most other parts of the world where it's the biggest sport for men which gives the girls better training opportunities.
Their “level” was the result of playing mostly amateurs and women who played the game as a side gig. NOw the very strong and stable Euro system through the already established clubs they are developing women talent the same way they develop male players. The US system promotes the individual and rewards athletic players and promoting individuals through the college system. US system is vastly different than how players are developed at a young age in other countries. By next WC US women will be closer to the US men in Terms of how they stack up against the better players from Europe Asia and even Latin America.

He said that our team concept harms them because while other countries kind of let players just play a kind of selfish game when they're younger, we force them into a team concept that - by the time they're playing internationally - has basically made them inferior to other nations when it comes to trying to win that one-on-one game.
Basically, preaching so much "team" has made them less skilled at the isolation game that every team needs to be able to score enough to make a statement on the world stage.

Worst professional players shooting PK's I've ever seen. The first few were great they went downhill from there.
The goalie for Sweeden was amazing but Sweeden overall didnt play as well as they normally do while USA played better then what we saw the rest of the tournament.

We didn't get a single minute of Williams, Rodman, smith. With the way Williams was serving it up on a platter someone is scoring if she plays the whole game. I get putting Pino in for PKs, but why so early? What's the point of bringing Thompson on if you don't trust her to play at least a few minutes. Loyalty to the older players hurt them. How many times did he need to see Morgan offside before changing things up.

The rest of the world went to boot camp since last WC and the American Team went woke and complained about everything since the last WC. @AJHart-eg1ys No disrespect to the opponent, but this USA team underestimated their opponents in the group stages. They didn't play their best game. It's a fact. They were very sloppy in attack and missed chances. They thought it would be an easy ride.
Perhaps the player selection process should include a question on whether you would be proud to play for your country? There are 50 other USA born women playing for other teams in this World Cup. I can only imagine how honored they would've been to stand for and sing the USA national anthem.

The world of women's football has come a long way in the past several years. US women were in an over privileged position for a long time due to the billions of dollars spent on college scholarships. But that historical advantage is now vanishing as the rest of the world has caught up, due to grass roots love of the sport in many countries and the natural evolution of the women's game. So, that artificial advantage created by college scholarships is being surpassed by women in countries where men's football is already a religion and the women's football will probably soon follow. Oh, and these women in other countries are actually proud of playing for their country, unlike the US team who treat international football as a way to increase their personal market value and therefore product endorsement income. That pride in playing for your country, instead of for your own back pocket, is what lifts many teams at the world cup.
US played great today. That Swedish keeper played out of her mind. Morgan is a shadow of herself. Smith needs to work on decision making and first touches. Rodman matured throughout this tournament and was the most dangerous player for the US today. Vlatko needed to make a few more changes. Time to start bringing up the youngsters.

USA teams have always had technique so that's why they have been number 1 , problem now is that the rest of the world have teams with technique, the difference is that they also play with pride and heart and love for their country.
It is absolutely true that this team is polarizing. The thing is, if they would show at least some class, honor, and respect for others, their support would increase dramatically. Just look at this WC, they barely squeak into the round of 16 and you see them celebrating, taking selfies with fans, etc. Why? Show some humility! Rapinoe wildly misses her PK and she smiles, which even if she didn't mean it to mean that she didn't care, it came off as so. In an earlier comment I noted their behavior in 2019 when they played Thailand with their excessive and obnoxious goal celebrations. How hard is it to simply show some reasonable decorum?
It would be one thing if they were off-putting off the field, but then to maintain a professional manner and execute well on the field. However, to be obnoxious both on AND off the field, well, don't be surprised if people want to see you knocked of your pedestal.

Umm, I think Sweden will fold to Japan. They're well coached. Sorry if that hurts, but that team destroyed Spain and Norway. Technically and tactically they are the best team right now.
I think Spain will overcome Netherlands, and I think they'll give Japan a tough game after learning that a high line is dangerous against a team like them. On the other side, I see upsets as well. Probably England gets through, but France and Australia will be tough if they have to face either. I still think Japan takes it all.
