    Awesome video! looking the sand, I think is pretty drivable with an AWD vehicle...I have a 2017 Murano and I had no issue in the outerbanks beach last year, and this looks pretty similar.

      Most of the sand on the island is fairly well packed and easy to drive on. We did hit a couple places, when I didn't have the camera rolling, where it was a bit sketchy. If I remember correctly, it was particularly bad where the high tide came very close to the dunes.

      I've heard mixed explanations... I think originally, the cars were put there partly as a cheap storage solution because no one really cared about the island at the time. They were then left there to "protect the dunes," which I understand to mean there was no desire or funds to undertake in their removal and since digging them all up would've disrupted the dunes that had partly covered them it made for a convenient excuse to leave them to nature.

      @@Treetopflyer777 It might get a little chilly still in April. The south side of the island seemed to have more spots in between the dunes where you can tuck in and get a little protection from the wind. Have fun, stay warm, and let me know how it goes for you!

      @@Treetopflyer777 when we went last year it was the first week in June and it got down into the 50's overnight. With the steady 20mph wind, it felt pretty cold. If you plan for it, with warm clothes and good blankets, you could probably get away with not bringing a diesel heater.

    Awesome video! How did that pick up do on the Sand? Also, do you have a link for that rack and rooftop tent you have?

    • @mrputtyhead
      @mrputtyhead  Před měsícem

      We didn't get stuck anywhere because of the beach sand. There was a sketchy moment where the waves were right up next to the dunes but 4 wheel drive and low tire pressure allowed us to power right on through. The only place we got stuck was the rather deceptive looking mud pit.
      On the back of the truck is a diamondback cover (diamondbackcovers.com) I purchased the cover and the Yakima overhaul HD rack system through diamondback. The tent is the iKamper skycamp 3.0. (iKamper.com) There's also a list on my Amazon page that has all the gear we use on the truck and for camping. (www.amazon.com/shop/mrputtyhead/)

    Awesome video! Gave us a good idea of what to expect! Do u have link to the rechargeable bug repellent that you’re talking about in 6:41 ? ( the Amazon link says they don’t sell anymore, would like to find something comparable but don’t know enough about these products) much appreciated!

      @mrputtyhead  Před 2 měsíci +2

      Sure! Here you go. amzn.to/4583C9z
      The device is called the Flextail tiny repel but Flextail also makes a couple other "repel" variations that operate in similar fashion. Because they're rechargeable they work much better than a thermacell. 😉

    Did you have to buy an orv permit? I just had to pay $120 for a yearly permit, I thought it was quite insane. Or did you purchase a different permit? Any other permits required to camp?

    • @mrputtyhead
      @mrputtyhead  Před 2 měsíci +3

      I usually get our orv permit in January or February. They're only $25 if you get them early, otherwise they should only be $50 per year. No other permits are needed for camping on the beach. Here's the link to the park service site for getting the driving permit.
