- The Mahindra XUV700 and Toyota Fortuner are very different SUVs. Both, however, can be had with 200hp engines. Of course, we had to bring them together on a drag strip!

Beating a RWD SUV of twice the price with less peak torque is commendable. Power to M&M.
HP and power-band shape is important here, not he torque.
Both cars are made for different purpose.. Fortuner is made for adventure & offroading and Xuv700 is made for highways drive... Car weight plays a major role on such drag race
@@yashsvidixit7169 HP is almost the same, Fortuner takes less time & RPM to attain its max power (Diesel benefit). RWD is boon for drag race (Weight transfer to the rear wheels means better grip). All the odds are against the XUV except 300Kg wt.

Remember, XUV700 petrol base model with exact same engine currently is on road 16.5 lac. So its not 2x but actually a car that cost 3x lesser than Legender.

The question of reliability is not really a question anymore when the competition is at half the price. Whatever maintanence cost you sink in is still not gonna become 2x the cost of the vehicle

Talking about durability, I would rather buy an XUV now and invest the balance 30 lakhs, and buy another new XUV after 15 years, and will still have a good amount left in the bank. Plus, within 10 years these ICE cars will start vanishing from the roads, replaced by EVs. There goes your resale value and durability down the sink.

PS: I'm not a Fortuner hater (besides, XUV isn't perfect). But the Fortuner desperately needs a more modern rework with a huge reduction in its price.

it drives very nice off road, best car for off roading in our market if you can afford the price tag

See power to weight ratio and torque to weight ratio. Torque matters, see honda city vs rapid race. Torque to weight ratio is better in fortuner. Its shame for fortuner
XUV700 is heavier car if you compare the same spec... Diesel 2WD.. Fortuner weighs 1855kg and XUV700 Weighs 1890kgs

To be fair comparison between them they should’ve picked top Diesel variants, AX7L AWD Diesel - 4x4 Toyota Legender Diesel. 450 Nm vs 500 Nm Torque. Of course, there is huge price gap 31 Lakhs vs 55 Lakhs. But race between these specifications would be wonderful. Please make a video on it.

This video is evident that there is a huge gap between Petrol Turbo and Diesel Turbo. One can feel the best of diesel only in manual cars. Petrol vs Diesel manual , Diesel gets torque advantage and ideal for citt congestions for sure.... Personally I feel very difficult for me to drive petrol manual as I'm very much used to diesel

The diesel xuv 700 is faster than petrol xuv 700 in quater mile drag, so since petrol xuv 700 is faster than fortuner it's obvious that diesel xuv 700 is way faster in quatermile than fortuner

I very well understand that power to weight ratio is good in XUV, now this a ques can a FWD be advantage over RWD in this particular condition?
No. Actually RWD has the advantage. Cause when the car launches or accelerates weight is shifted to the rear of the car so a FWD has a disadvantage and is more likely to lose grip and wheelspin.

If you select the sport mode from mode selector buttons and also put the gear lever in the manual sport position the car becomes even more aggressive. That might help here.

One thing I consider is the peace of mind in having something that can always “GO” anywhere and anytime. Much like the Maruti Gypsy. Both weren’t up there with the bells and whistles but boy they’re both dam well capable cars. I guess we’re expected to pay 50L for that much for reliability and go anywhere capability!!

If u take 2 cars with same power the one have AWD will always launch better and will go faster and might also wheel spin sometimes, if other car is RWD it might do a slight wheel spin and then go and if it's a FWD car it'll struggle for traction,

I have even driven the 1.5 kushaq, yes petrols are amazing when it comes to performance.they are higher revving, have great top end, have larger rpm gaps and more than that.

Often, those models come to India after a year or more, so you get a perspective of how it fares in global competition!
And what you don’t get in India with the same name plate: e.g. Fortuner Australia has largely the same mechanicals but has had lots more tech than the model sold in India…

Check the torque to weight ratio which is more for fortuner. Fortuner has massive 500Nm torque and still defated . Fortuner is not more than an overpriced waste

A turbo diesel will always be lethargic compared to a turbo petrol, add the fortuner's weight on top of that and the drag race was already lost. Had it been a tug of war, the fortuner would have obliterated the xuv into a million puzzle pieces 😂
